  • All Joy was clean, easy to find, and had great amenities like creek access/kayaking across the street, a fire pit, a back porch and grill, and neighborhood beach access. Had a great time exploring, and kayaking in the creek. Managed to catch a few bass and pickerel on my fly rod too!

  • Great cottage in a really nice, new development. It was a short trip, but we loved Gary's Oyster Bar and enjoyed trip to near by New Bern. We hope to come back in the summer when we could kayak and enjoy the water and nearby beaches.

  • We loved the cottage in the woods! It was so quiet and we loved watching the stars in the evening. Check in/out was super easy as well. We were there in off season and barely saw anyone in the neighborhood. Thank you for being dog friendly as well!

  • We really enjoyed our long weekend at 35 North Cottage. Took the ferry one day and traveled from Beaufort to Atlantic Beach. Took a couple of kayak trips down Mill Creek. Loved the sunsets at the river park and found lots of sharks teeth on the river beach. Had no cell service most of the time, sporadic signals. Wifi worked fine at the house. House is well stocked for the most part. Pillows were flat and no drawers in bedrooms. Very quiet and peaceful and a great place to ride bikes.

    Cherie2017-04-16T00:00:00Z
  • If you want a quite place with canoeing and pool near by without a bunch of people this is the place.

  • We love the concept of this neighborhood!

  • Cottage was great, beautifully decorated. The area was quiet and very relaxing. The pool area was awesome! Would definitely come back!

    Tara2017-06-04T00:00:00Z
  • The house was very clean and comfortable. The backporch was a great place to have dinner or read in the morning. We had everything we needed in the kitchen. This is a very new development so it was quiet. The dock is right next door at the outdoor center which is a cool building for neighborhood use. We kayaked, played tennis, rode the bikes and explored the area. Blaire and Becca were so helpful to give us recommendations for sailing in Oriental and fishing the Neuse River and Pamlico Sound. We brought all the groceries we needed but there was a small grocery down the street and a very small Walmart Market in Oriental. We will return if we make it back to this area.

    Laurie2015-08-16T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful time. The house was beautiful, and very comfortable. The amenities in the area (tennis, kayaks, bikes) were great fun. Our kids had a lot of fun and can't wait to go back. We would love to return.

It is 650 sq feet of open living space with a full bath, queen size bed, living area and full size kitchen on the second floor of our carriage house. It is private. There is a deck with wonderful views of boating and sunsets.
Normally the weather is sunny with a nice breeze and very few bugs. We are located between two very popular YMCA camps in the area, close to the ferry system taking you Beaufort, Emerald Isle and Morehead City and close to New Bern. In addition, you can walk the beaches looking for shark teeth and shells.
Spring is here and everything is beautiful. This is a very quiet, coastal community, called The Bluffs, in the pine forests and on the Neuse River. The Neuse River is the widest river in the Americas and it is 4 miles across where we live. Sailing, fishing, motor boating, canoeing, and birding is fantastic everyday. The Neuse riverfront neighborhood in between the coastal towns of Oriental (10 minutes) and New Bern , NC (25 minutes). We are located in the heart of "summer camp country" and is between four large camps (Camp Seagull, Camp Seafarer, Camp Caroline and Camp DonLee). It is an ideal place to stay when dropping off and picking up your children. It is also an ideal place to stay to visit the many nautical and historic communities in our area. Both Beaufort, NC and New Bern, NC are over 300 years old. New Bern is the home to Tyron Palace, Tyron Gardens, and the North Carolina History Museum. Oriental and Beaufort and both quaint boating communities. Oriental is the sail boating capital of NC and Beaufort has access to the Shackleford Island wild ponies and the Cape Lookout National Lighthouse. Morehead City and Atlantic Beach are also close by to provide ocean access and sport fishing. - Minnesott Beach ferry (5 minutes from the Carriage House) offers a free 20 minute ride across to the Neuse River to Beaufort, Morehead City, Atlantic Beach, NC Aquarium, etc. It generally runs every half hour and is super convenient. - Minnesott Beach Golf and Country Club is just down the street - Belangia's Supermarket and Dollar General are about a mile away in the village of Arapahoe and carry most of the provisions that you will need. We REALLY like eating here and the seafood is FANTASTIC.... While in town, be sure to stop at Gary's Oyster Bar, just down the street for seafood. In Oriental, we love Toucan Grill, Silos, and M&M's. While in New Bern, try The Chelsea or Morgan's. We try to have brochures on events that are happening in the area.... We have lots of happenings and festivals throughout the year.
  • We we had such a wonderful time Beautiful Tranquil location, fishing boating birds everywhere this studio was perfect nice and roomy and clean we can't say enough thank you

  • Chris and Bill were great hosts. They are very friendly and sociable and were very helpful with information and suggestions about the area. They have a beautiful spot, great swimming area and the carriage house is lovely. I had a problem with my car while I was there and they let me extend my stay and told me where to take it to get looked at. Great place to stay and great hospitality if you are in that area!

    molly2015-08-26T00:00:00Z
  • Chris and Bill were the most amazing hosts and the Carriage House exceeded our every expectation. They made us feel right at home and part of the family. I even got a pickle ball lesson from Bill. The house sits right on the Neuse River with amazing views, and it's a short drive to many wonderful attractions. There is so much to see and do in the area that our only wish was that we could've stayed longer. We'll definitely be back, and before we do I'll have to improve my pickle ball skills so that Bill and I can have a rematch!

    Heather2016-08-13T00:00:00Z
  • Chris and Bill were accommodating and wonderful hosts. The carriage house has a beautiful view of the river. It is close to the ferry and easy to explore the area. We hope to return.

    judy2016-06-02T00:00:00Z
  • Pictures can't accurately depict the beauty of Bill and Chris's home. The carriage house was a perfect place to stay and is furnished with just about anything one might need. Bill and Chris couldn't have been more welcoming or accommodating and we so enjoyed watching the sunset and talking with them each day. Plus their pups couldn't have been cuter!

    Brittany2016-08-17T00:00:00Z
  • We had a fantastic time with Chris and Bill. They warmly greeted us upon arrival and showed us around the lovely, waterfront property. Everything was exactly as described. They gave us great recommendations for area attractions, but honestly our favorite activities were finding shark teeth (we found many!), and relaxing on the dock, watching the sunset! Extremely relaxing!!!

    Jeff2017-04-04T00:00:00Z
  • I'm sure considering all of the past reviews, it is unnecessary for me to mention how wonderfully accommodating Chris & Bill are as people and hosts, but nonetheless I will! First, they are communicative and understanding during the entire process. Sadly, I had gotten sick and had to reschedule my dates the day of my arrival. Throughout this process, Chris was helpful, kind, and considerate. When we arrived, we noticed that the place is far more gorgeous than the pictures depict. I mean, this property is like a private paradise. The river, dock, and house all exceeded expectations. My boyfriend and I didn't even leave the property the entire time. We enjoyed taking naps in the comfortable bed, while listening to the birds and feeling the fresh air breeze. The rest of the time was spent out by the water under the private dock, on the sand, looking for sharks teeth (we found 22), and watching the river. There's even a wonderful spot to sit and watch the sunset, which is gorgeous over the Neuss River. Chris & Bill are such wonderful people and meeting them was such a pleasure. They even called us out to see the dolphins on our last morning! I was waiting to see some all weekend, but luckily they made an arrival last minute for us. They truly did make us feel like we were in our own home. The house itself is very comfortable and clean. The balcony is a wonderful place to sit and watch all of the beautiful birds on the property. Chris & Bill have bird feeders and bird houses on the property, which give you an amazing opportunity to watch these birds and listen to them sing and chirp. In addition to the birds and dolphins, their two dogs are so much fun to spend time with along the property. They're truly lovable and definitely add the experience of your time on this property. Overall, book Chris & Bill's place. You will not regret it. I am already plotting my return. Thank you for such a wonderful time!

    Stefanie2017-04-14T00:00:00Z
  • This country carriage house was exactly as described and quite comfortable and private. Our hosts, Chris and Bill, met us as we drove up and oriented us to the quarters. They were extremely helpful in offering us information on the area (we are considering moving there eventually) and giving us recommendations for restaurants and places to see. They were the perfect hosts and their pets are darling!

    Costa2015-07-19T00:00:00Z
  • Our experience at 200 Bennett on the Neuse was magical for three reasons: First, our expectations were managed beautifully by the owners before, during, and after our stay. Second, the home, carriage house, pool house, pool, spa and grounds are so thoughtfully designed and maintained that you simply love to return home after trips to the nearby beaches or after a day on the water. Third, the home automation for lights, thermostat, security, and all entertainment was wonderful. Bottom line, it is easy to imagine flawless reviews of this home for many years to come. Our time here certainly was just that.

    David2016-07-05T00:00:00Z
  • My family has had a reunion every summer for almost 30 years and this was one of the best houses we have rented. It is a beautiful, sprawling estate and exceeded our expectations. We had plenty of room and space for 4+ families. The house is wonderfully appointed and very high-end. The property, pool, spa, tennis courts, pier, etc. were immaculate. We especially enjoyed kayaking in the river and cocktails on the pier. We loved every minute at the house and didn't want to leave. Thank you!

    Enid2016-08-20T00:00:00Z
  • We had an amazing vacation. We were taken care of in the weeks leading up to our trip with detailed site and access information, personally escorted to the house for a site walk through, and checked in on once during the week to make sure that everything was to our liking. The property was exactly what we wanted: picturesque, remote and accommodating for our large family.

    Kaila2016-07-24T00:00:00Z
  • Pictures don't do justice to this place. Our family reunion (5 siblings, spouses, kids, parents, etc) was absolutely perfect. The pool / spa area were great, the property lay out was well thought out. We saw dolphins swimming off the dock, found sharks teeth, flew kites, had coffee overlooking the river on the second story decks during the sun rise, captured some family photos during the sun set... great family memories indeed! We would love to come back to this place.

    Jonathan2017-08-05T00:00:00Z
  • This is a beautiful & well maintained property w a great pool & tennis court. All the family loved it from our 4-year old to Nonna & Popps. Highly recommend.

    william2017-07-26T00:00:00Z
  • The listing photos do not do the place justice! We rented all 3 homes on the property- it was perfect for a family reunion. The house is a "smart" house, which was very easy to use and high-tech. We brought our boat, and the dock and lift were very high-quality. The pool/hot tub area was frequently used and amazing! The view was breathtaking! There were plenty of towels and more amenities than I would have expected. The house was great for so many people to be able to spread out and do different things but still be together. The grounds were impeccable, it seems no expense was spared.

Perched on a bluff overlooking the Neuse River, nestled among ancient oaks and pines –you'll discover the magic of Journey's End. Conveniently located between Camps Seagull and Seafarer, the cottage is only 10 miles from Oriental and 24 from New Bern
Journey's End Cottage is a relaxing retreat that will please those seeking fishing on the 2 mile wide Neuse River, family gatherings or a romantic getaway. Nearby Oriental is a haven for those seeking a dining or shopping experience. Beaufort is a ferry ride and a short drive away.
Minnesott Beach is a retirement community that is friendly and accommodating to our visitors. You have incredible views along the river shore, a variety of activities and water sports on the waterfront and The Minnesott Beach Country Club and restaurant just feet away from the cottage. This neighborhood is great for walking, biking or catching the ferry for a spirited ride across the river and back.
  • Terry immediately contacted me after booking and made sure I had all the necessary information for our stay. Terry also stayed in contact during our vacation to ensure we had everything we needed. We felt so welcome and well cared for.

    Shannon2015-08-16T00:00:00Z
  • What an absolute special and magical place Journey's End! You have to see to understand. The pictures are well represented but can't do it nearly the justice as being there in person. You feel like you are taking a step back in time but with all current amenities. I feel grateful that my entire family got this special opportunity. The furnishing were comfortable and beautiful. She clearly decorated this place with thought and care. I want her to come to my house and decorate! :) The amenities were above and beyond. Nice fluffy bath robes provided, reading materials and comfy chairs/couches to sink into. We just sat out on the screened porch overlooking the river (2 mile wide river!). There were dolphins out each morning which my kids were thrilled to see. (Bring your binoculars!) Terry had kayaks so that we could go out and enjoy the water. We took nice walks along the shoreline. We sat on the pier and even got to watch the airshow across the way and the fireworks at night. Kids threw out a crab cage (which Terry provided). We didn't catch anything, but it was fun trying! We went out dinner at a fun, casual and yummy restaurant called Silo in the town of Oriental, NC. Just a great weekend! In addition, we were lucky that Terry was in the neighboring cottage (she owns both). We got time to talk with her. 1) I can't believe how welcoming and warm she is 2) a wealth of great stories and information 3) she is so accommodating and making sure we knew what was going on locally and offering us help at anytime. She is such a delight and we feel privileged to get to meet her. I am sure I will think of more things, but it was a really great time and can't wait to go back!

    Jennifer2016-05-02T00:00:00Z
  • Journey's End is the quintessential rustic cottage, complete with a lovely screen sleeping porch overlooking the Neuse River. It has everything you need for a fabulous getaway or vacation. The cottage is steps away from the Cherry Branch Ferry, making beautiful Beaufort easily accessible. The owner of the cottage, Terry, could not have been more lovely or accommodating. She was extremely quick responding to our inquiry to let, and then to all our questions about the house and nearby surroundings. Southern hospitality at its best!

    Kelli2015-04-12T00:00:00Z
  • We are just coming home from Journey's End, and had a fabulous time! The cottage is vintage '40's lake house charm, with modern amenities for a super comfy stay. Our kids are ages 6 - 18, and everyone had fun!! The river is an amazing place. It is sandy bottomed salt water, and shallow enough for walking and swimming almost as far as you'd like to go. We swam, kayaked, fished, crabbed, and paddle boarded every day. (Reasonable paddle board rentals and delivery from the Provision store in Oriental). We saw dolphins, turtles, the bald eagle, lizards and all kinds of water creatures. Fun things: free ferry around the corner, beach day at Atlantic Beach (about an hour drive), dinner out in New Bern, yummy pizza from Little Italy on Pamlico Hwy.... Our only suggestion (from my daughter) is that Terry appropriate some of her gorgeous artwork to make a Journey's End t-shirt for purchase. :)

    Heidi2017-07-28T00:00:00Z
  • Journey's End is a very special place! We loved our stay at this charming cottage. The cottage is absolutely wonderful and so well appointed - Terry really thought of everything! And so stylish. The view is truly beautiful and we enjoyed sitting on the porch and the dock watching the river. We even saw a pair of porpoise! We also loved kayaking and swimming - it was all so fun. Terry is an excellent host and a great communicator. We felt very well taken care of and are so grateful to have found such a fabulous spot. We look forward to returning! Thank you, Terry!

    Chassie2017-07-02T00:00:00Z
  • Thank you Terry for an amazing getaway! Your cottage is adorable and arranged in such a way that is very roomy! My favorite room was the sun room. I would work out in the mornings in that room while the sun was glimmering on the water! Sooo awesome. My kids took the bikes for a ride, which was fun. Also, we tried to catch some crab. We didn't have much luck with that, but we had fun trying.:) Thank you again for your hospitality. I would definitely stay there again as well as recommend to others! Blessings!

    Wanda2015-12-24T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful time at Journey's end. Lots of relaxing, cooking and playing games in this wonderful, charming cabin. Terry was very responsive and made us feel welcome.

    Ulrike2016-04-05T00:00:00Z
  • Journey's End was warm and inviting with a beautiful view of the Neuse River. We were able to have family dinners on the porch and enjoy the sunsets because of the privacy the cottage provides. We were also just a short drive away from a grocery store and restaurants in Oriental. The cottage's close proximity to the ferry makes last-minute day trips to Beaufort and Morehead City easy and fun! Should you choose to spend the day at Journey's End, the kayaks are great (we paddled next to dolphins a few times). Oh yeah, the view off the dock is second to none!

  • Best.place.ever. Quiet, peaceful, and so well decorated and stocked. We loved sitting out on the screened in porch and beautifully furnished deck. Walking down to the private beach every morning and sipping coffee was a memory and feeling that I won't soon forget. There is something truly magical about this place. I cannot emphasize enough how beautiful the home was. Dawn was so fabulous to deal with!! Thank you! We will be back.

  • We loved this place. It was small, cozy, and perfectly decorated to be comfortable and supply your every need but did not feel one bit fussy. We were there for our Thanksgiving holiday and the kitchen had everything we needed to cook a turkey etc. The house is within walking distance of the ferry dock, so that was cool. We spent one day in New Bern, and checked out the old fishing village of Oriental. Beautiful and charming both, a bit off the beaten path. Otherwise we relaxed and read and took walks and enjoyed the most restorative view of the river. Sunsets were spectacular daily. What a lovely, lovely place.

    Sandy2016-11-27T00:00:00Z
  • What a sweet little spot and nice getaway. The house is adorable, clean and has a wonderful view. You can swim in the river right at the house but can't easily walk very far on the beach. We loved seeing the dolphins and many different birds. The kitchen had everything we needed to fix meals. The neighborhood was quiet and nice and we enjoyed going into New Bern for dinner and sailing! Dawn is easy to communicate with and responds quickly. Thanks so much for sharing your space with us.

    Alison2016-06-06T00:00:00Z
  • First off communication with Dawn started before we arrived and continued after to make sure everything would and did go smoothly. She provided a binder with information not just about the cottage but things to do, places to eat, ferry schedules basically if you wanted to know it was in the binder. The cottage is just like the pictures and the neighborhood was very quiet. I spent most of my time on the screened in porch. I couldn't have been happier and I hope to get back next year.

There are cheaper places to stay in Pamlico County or in the town of Oriental, but none better! You'll be livin' large in your own private, secluded cottage out in the woods with a private dock on Kershaw Creek! Enjoy privacy, a full kitchen, all the amenities of home, and all that nature offers. It's quiet and peaceful here, and the dock is just a few steps down a wooded path -- a beautiful spot to hang out, and the perfect place to launch a kayak!
The cottage sits on just under 5 acres, about 2 mi outside the town of Oriental NC, so it's quiet, peaceful and really beautiful here. Hang out, relax, and see how many birds and critters you can spot. Better yet, go paddling on Kershaw Creek. We'll help you arrange delivery of your kayaks right to the cottage. Two bedrooms, each with a queen bed, one and a half baths, and a comfy couch to sleep on means there's plenty of room. The kitchen has all you need to brew a pot of coffee and cook your own meals in case you don't want to eat out in beautiful downtown Oriental. Linens and towels are provided. There's DirecTV connected to an old TV, if you want it, WiFi, and cellular service so you can stay connected. We've got everything you need. Oriental, the sailing capitol of NC, is just down the road, and we're only 10 minutes from the ferry that takes you across the mighty Neuse to the beaches and Morehead City, Atlantic Beach, Beaufort. Kershaw Cottage is the perfect spot for that romantic getaway, for getting some work done, or for the family vacation. It's good to be "out in the county"! Sorry, but we don't allow pets.
Want to check out the neighborhood? Check out all the pics we've posted. It's pretty wild around here. :-) The restaurants around our tiny little town are sufficient, but pretty basic. After all -- this is "out in the county". If you like to cook, you can freshly caught seafood (often times live seafood) for cooking up at the cottage. There's also a great produce stand we like to go to in the Summer months. Don't worry, we'll tell you where to get the good stuff.
  • My husband and I stayed here for 3 days and had an amazing time.. the house was perfect and Brad was awesome he showed us around gave suggestions but gave us our privacy. • My children and I went to Kershaw Cottage for four days and had a lovely time. We kayaked around, pushing off right from Brad's dock, spent an afternoon exploring New Bern (we went to the Fireman's Museum which is small but really great), swam at Lou Mac park, and took the ferry across the Neuse and drove to Atlantic Beach. The cottage is perfectly simple and cozy, and as others have mentioned Brad is an excellent host. I highly recommend Kershaw Cottage to anyone heading to Oriental, it's a wonderful little gem. • The cottage is very clean and comfortable. Brad went over and above what he had to do in order to make us feel welcome and to give us a great experience. He took us out for a beautiful boat ride along Kershaw Creek and managed to make both young and old feel at home and safe.

  • We rented this place for a fishing trip, and it worked well for our needs. Bill was great. The location is fairly secluded and quiet, with plenty of parking for a couple vehicles and a boat trailer. In addition to the queen bed there is a futon (not shown in the photos) that serves as a couch and as a double bed. Be aware that the refrigerator is a mini, dorm-size, so very limited food storage space and ice-making capability. The boat slip is excellent; it's just a minute or two drive from the house, with parking, and within sight of the Oriental boat ramp. Very convenient!

  • The location was quiet and removed from the downtown area. Great location for sleeping and relaxing. Everything was as described. It was a good time for my solo adventure. Lou-Mac Park on the Neuse River provides a relaxing place to watch “The Sailing Capital of North Carolina.” The Village of Oriental hosts a population of less than 900 people, and more than 1200 boats! The center of village activities is the Town Dock, where nearby marinas and the anchorage in the harbor provide plenty of scenic vistas. • We were not pleased at all. No wifi, the tv lost it's signal at least 3 times once for over 30 minutes. It's a boarding house with 3 rooms rented to boarders one of whom the host had to talk to about not letting another person stay with him anymore. This was a room across from us and both persons were obviously high. No breakfast. Only one door was unlocked to get out.

    Wanda2017-06-02T00:00:00Z
  • What a beautiful house and room. We needed a room on short notice and Linda was able to help. We were sailing into Oriental and was unsure of the arrival time and even when we arrived late in the evening, we still were greeted with a smile. I would highly recommend The Captains Quarters if you want a beautiful and quiet place to stay when you are in Oriental.

    Lance2016-07-04T00:00:00Z
  • Don't make the same mistake that I did. Because I read the following on The Captains' Quarters' website, I had grand expectations. "Captains Quarters offers the finest lodging found in the town with all of the personal service only a caring host can give. A hotel stay in Oriental will afford you the charm of meeting interesting village residents and travelers from many ports. A stay at the Captains' Quarters means casual elegance and a gourmet breakfast, but the late afternoon glass of wine, or sweet tea blended with the evening breezes of Oriental and friendly conversation - this is the heart of Oriental. Guests enjoy fresh-brewed gourmet coffee as introductions are made by Captain Roy. Meanwhile, Annick prepares home made muffins, mouth watering quiches, egg casseroles, fresh fruits and other delectable fare from the bounty of our local farmers market. Guests may take breakfast either at the Captain’s Table, or outside on the wrap-around porch’s white table cloth covered bistro tables. Both settings are wonderful places to enjoy a good breakfast and welcome the day." While all that was probably true "back in the day" it wasn't happening the day I was there. Apparently since they signed on with Airbnb, the personalized service and frills are gone. I recommend that they remove The Captains Quarters website and change the sign on their building. The Airbnb site does state that they want you to enjoy the charm and warmth on your own and the hosts will have little interaction with guests, but I read it only after the fact. I didn't meet or see any of the other guests or the host. Linda only left our key and a note for us on the dining room table stating our room location and giving us permission to use the kitchen. The grand old house has a nice ambiance and our room, although not as pictured on the Airbnb site, was clean, well appointed and comfortable. The facial tissue dispenser was empty, the toilet seat could use tightening, and the ring binder holding menus and info about Oriental was falling apart and the info was outdated, but otherwise I was pleased. Even without breakfast, the room rate was a good value and if I get to Oriental again, I'll probably stay there. The inn is located on the edge of the walkable and friendly community. Next time I'll plan on breakfast at The Bean, a delightful place where all the locals hang out. I also enjoyed lunch at M&M's.

  • In the process of planning our honeymoon to the coast of NC we weren't certain of our vacation dates until just a few days before we left. To top it off the first hurricane of the season was due to make landfall on the date of our arrival so we made the decision to stay inland for a couple of days to wait for the storm to pass before heading to the outer banks. Linda had availability and was very prompt in accepting our request to stay at the captains quarters and helpful in accommodating our late arrival time. The room was lovely (the building was silent despite the battering storm outside) and the following day when the sun came out we got to enjoy the small town of oriental. A truly wonderful way to start off our honeymoon.

An updated historic home in the center of town within easy walking distance of shops, restaurants, health club and marinas. Choose between 2 bedrooms(1 full/2 twin), with 2 full baths. Indoor sunroom with panoramic views. Outdoor deck and gardens. Each of the bedrooms sleeps 2 people and are located in a separate, private part of the house, with a private entrance
"Heaven's a little closer in a house on the river". Our beautiful river view, our flower gardens and porch are the perfect setting for sitting and relaxing and enjoying a glass of wine while watching the boats sailing along as well as the town dog walkers, bicyclists, joggers and fisherman at the dock. Our home is centrally located and just a 2 minute walk to the harbor and restaurants. Our home has wireless internet and direct TV. There are 2 private full bathrooms, one with tub shower and one with stall shower. There are 2 bedrooms to choose from one with 2 twin beds the other with a standard double. Each room needs to be booked and paid for separately. These rooms are both upstairs in a separate wing of the house and are private.
Our home is situated in the "heart" of old oriental where the victorian homes along the river were built and occupied by Roper Lumber Company execs. Many of the homes have been renovated or restored to their original grandeur. Our particular site is directly across the street from Lou Mac Park where many town events are held. From the privacy of our porch behind the privet hedge you can be privy to weddings, Croaker Fest, the dog parade, drum circle, Sunday church services (weather permitting )spring -fall, concerts, picnicking, folks sitting in the Adirondack chairs relaxing, reading, chatting and even napping. Sitting on our porch and watching the world go by is best described as living like a local.
  • I was in Oriental for a Cycle North Carolina event with a friend and we were so pleased to have found the Neuse River House. Sylvia and Kirk were gracious and relaxed hosts and we felt immediately at home. The bedroom with twin beds was roomy and the bathroom was right down the hall - we had that wing of the house to ourselves. It was lovely to sit outside and enjoy the back porch and the lovely garden.

  • Sylvia is the host we all hope for, welcoming, efficient and cheerful. Her home is a delight, situated steps from the waterfront park, quiet at night, in the heart of the village. Guests have the use of much of the house; living room, TV/library, dining room. We would stay with Sylvia whenever we visited the area.

  • I am a regular now and LOVE staying with the hosts. I love the quaintness, the location and the privacy. The hosts are becoming such wonderful friends and I enjoy them so much. They are very accommodating and very willing to help in any way. It has been a great place to be as my home away from home!

    Debbie2017-05-03T00:00:00Z
  • Loved it - great little getaway for my wife and I. The house is great and comfortable all around, the location is too with water out the window. We were well taken care of and wouldn't stay elsewhere in the area know that we know of Sylvia's place and great company to boot. Thanks so much!

    peter2016-08-07T00:00:00Z
  • What a delightful place. Sylvia was a beautiful hostess, the locale is unbeatable. The home is gracious and peaceful, and I enjoyed every minute of my stay. I especially loved the swing under the giant Magnolia tree with the view of the River. I hope to return!

    Kelley2016-07-18T00:00:00Z
  • I arrived on a Friday evening and didn't leave until that Sunday and didn't need a vehicle at all the entire stay. The house property butts up to what seems like a park that is along the Neuse River. There are several restaurants within easy walking distance. We enjoyed time relaxing on the porch and swinging from their bench swing hanging under a huge Magnolia tree. The yard is full of nature from the recently hatched birds to the fuzzy little bunny hopping around the yard. Such a lovely house, town and especially the hosts. I could not have asked for more. This is probably my best Air B&B experience.

    Matt2017-07-02T00:00:00Z
  • Sylvia made me feel welcome, helping me with some food storage in her electric cooler and even coming to look for me In her car when I had gone out for a walk and it started to rain! She has a beautiful garden in a quiet neighborhood with a view of the water and made me a delicious breakfast.

Welcome to The Cartwright House Bed and Breakfast. This recently renovated Inn has a rich history dating back almost to when Oriental was founded. It was built in 1903, and converted to a Bed and Breakfast over three decades ago. We are located in a peaceful residential neighborhood and just steps from the waterfront and Lou Mac Park. A full gourmet breakfast is included daily with your stay.
Oriental can comfortably be explored on foot or by bicycle. Restaurants and shops are within walking distance. The Inn’s owners, Margaret and Johnny Reiswig, have refurbished and beautifully appointed the Cartwright House using a mix from the Reiswig and Nixon families collection of antiques, fine furniture, art and contemporary pieces and have reopened the Cartwright House as a true bed and breakfast. Every day a healthy & plentiful full breakfast is served in the large, sun filled dining room at your choice of 8:00, 8:30, or 9:00 AM. The Cartwright House prides itself on their breakfasts. Everything is made from scratch in our state of the art kitchen. Our Breakfast varies daily, following the seasons, and is always healthy and substantial. We typically begin with a seasonal fruit course followed by homemade muffins or breads such as Blueberry Muffins or one of our signature Sour Dough Cinnamon Rolls. Next you'll be treated to the main entrée which may include a savory quiche, strata, frittata or omelet. Other guest favorites include blueberry oat cakes with maple syrup, house made granola, ebelskivers with apple cinnamon filling and eggs benedict. Among other items, we also make a variety of sweet and savory crepes and blintzes as well as Whole Wheat Sour Dough Belgium Waffles. Oh, and don't forget the house made chicken apple sausages and baked Boars Head Bacon. Bon Appétit! All rooms have private baths stocked with fine Italian bath amenities from Poggesi. The eco-friendly Cartwright House caters to adults only who are looking for a respite from the hustle and bustle of big city life. The facility is 100% smoke free and encourages conversation, board games, quiet reads and pursuits to heal the spirit and mend the soul. Hosts will gladly transport marina guests as needed. The Room you are booking has a queen size bed, window seat, additional chair, and walk in shower. The floors of this second story room are beautifully restored heart pine. We call this room the Love Nest.
The Cartwright House is located in a quiet residential neighborhood, just a short stroll to the riverfront and Lou Mac Park. Oriental is known as the Sailing Capital of North Carolina. There's many beautiful boats from all over the world here in Oriental.

Oriental is all about slowing down and relaxing….and that's what we hope you do at our turn-of-the-century home. Its been a place where our family has made memories for over 40 years! Everyone who visits gets a sense that this home is well loved!
  • Had a great time at this beautiful home! Mary and Greg were very responsive to questions and thoroughly enjoyed my time here. I recommend this home for anyone looking for a getaway in or around Oriental.

    Jessup2016-01-30T00:00:00Z
  • This place is adorable!! And Mary were VERY COMMUNICATIVE and helpful. It is not a super fancy home, but if you love old homes--the architecture, moldings, painted wood paneling, etc, this house is chocked full of charm <3 (The kitchen and breakfast nook is filled with sweet vintage strawberry prints). Mary helped us navigate Oriental and plan our fun things to do. We ended up taking the ferry and driving to Emerald Isle (which took 1.5 hours), but it was a lovely beach and there was a lovely little swampy park in Emerald Isle. Kayaking and boating would be PERFECT closer to this home. We felt very safe as well.

  • This home was just what our family needed. It's quiet, family friendly, and close to the water, although pretty far from the beach and in a very quiet town - not too much to do. The home itself had tons of character. We had everything we needed. The sheets were soft and beds were comfortable, too! Everything was as described. Mary was a great communicator and very helpful.

    Katelynn2017-07-30T00:00:00Z
  • The area is scenic and charming and a short two minute walk to the water. Quiet town and slow pace. House is on the older side but functional and kept clean. Slept five comfortably.

    Miles2016-03-16T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed in the house for a wedding we had down in Oriental. The house was great and could accommodate 3 couples for the weekend with ease. The house fits right in with the oriental vibe and was what we expected for the area. Just a block from the water and about a 8 minute walk from the oriental harbour where there are a few nice restaurants and shops. Mary was great 10/10!!

My place is close to great views, art and culture, restaurants and dining, family-friendly activities, and within an hour to an ocean beach. You’ll love my place because of the comfy bed and the coziness and the private bath next to your room. My place is good for couples and solo adventurers. Coffee and tea provided each morning. Kitchen available for use.
While I offer the one room, my living room and outdoor garden spaces are what I think you will enjoy.
  • Antonia is a very welcoming host. Her garden area is gorgeous! On the map it looks like her place is by the ocean, but it is by the river. There is a small cute little beach area that is available just a short walk from her place. I booked this stay specifically for the beach so I drove to Atlantic beach. It is only about an hour drive to get there. You do have to take a ferry, but it runs very often, and it is free!

  • Great location and wonderful hostess!

    Melissa 2017-10-08T00:00:00Z
  • Toni had the welcome mat out for us when we arrived! She gave us a quick run down of where things were in her home and had a map of the area and a few brochures for us in our room. The room was a cozy space with spacious closet to store your belongings and a firm double bed with very nice his and hers reading lights. The bathroom was nice and clean and the shower had GREAT water pressure which is always a worry when going to new places with a head full of thick hair. Toni provided coffee and fruit for breakfast and offered several other options as well. As an added plus she has beautiful original artwork all over her house! She was so nice and interesting to talk to. She was close by to answer any questions we had and she is very eager to learn how to make her future guest's stay as wonderful as possible.

Welcome to our Harbour home. A contemporary all brick home invites you to enjoy the serenity of country living. We have hosted many foreign exchange students in the past and are also part of an educational B&B.
We are on the Harbour Pointe golf side of the resort. We serve breakfast, have a sun porch to share and living space and of course your private bedroom and bath.
We are surrounded by trees, a golf course and live in a peaceful setting. The excellent amenities are about a mile from our home on Marina drive. It's like living in a resort everyday of the year!
  • Helens home is a cozy quiet place to spend the night. Very clean and thoughtful hosts as well.

  • Helen and Mike are the most down to earth, genuinely nice people. I felt like I was at home with my family. In addition to a beautiful, clean home, they were incredibly hospitable. They went out of their way to make us feel welcome, help us find whatever we needed and even made a huge, incredibly delicious breakfast. They are super hosts!

    Brandon2017-07-30T00:00:00Z
  • This home is in a neighborhood a bit off the beaten path but not far outside of New Bern. The bedroom is well equipped with a very comfortable bed, lots of pillows, a large flat screen TV with Netflix, bottled water, snack food, and even brochures for local places of interest. The bathroom has every supply one might need and the tp is even rolled properly over the top! The self-closing toilet seat is an indication of how much attention to detail Helen and Michael have given to their guest room. Helen's breakfast is a feast that will satisfy you until dinner and her coffee is excellent. She and Michael treated me like an old friend.

    Jonathan2017-08-11T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed one night in this lovely home while passing through NC. The home is very inviting and is located in a quiet residential neighborhood. The bedroom and adjoining bathroom were nicely appointed and the queen bed was very comfortable! It was just what we were looking for after a long day of driving. Helen and Mike are great hosts!! They prepared a substantial breakfast the next morning and everything was delicious! Most of all, we enjoyed meeting Helen and Mike (and Miss Mama Mia!), who are very friendly and easy to talk to, and look forward to staying again someday.

  • Helen and Mike are the friendliest and most thoughtful hosts I've ever experienced! No detail was left unattended. Mike helped us with our luggage (at check- in and check-out). There were snacks and water bottles in our room. They offered wine, tea, coffee, and water throughout our stay. They even have several different types of pillows on the bed so you are sure to find one to your liking. The bed was very comfortable and the bed and bedding were beautiful and luxuriant. They were very accommodating of special dietary needs at breakfast (even though we brought our own, what they offered was so wonderful we took them up on it. They even sent us on our way with fresh peaches from their peach tree! They spent hours talking with us about the local area at our request (we were there scouting relocation possibilities). Helen and Mike are wonderful hosts with beautiful and comfortable accommodations in a senic setting that is close to New Bern proper. I highly recommend them!

    Julie2017-06-27T00:00:00Z
  • Helen and Mike were so very personable. They made us feel right at home from the moment we walked in. Helen's breakfast each morning was a wonderful touch. You will leave well nourished for the day. Their home is beautiful and serene and our room was very comfortable. I wish we had more time to just sit and visit with them. They were great hosts.

    Joie2017-10-26T00:00:00Z
  • Helen and Mike are a vivacious couple with lots to share! We had a wonderful visit and stay. Their house is very lovely and welcoming. Helen added some extra touches that we found extremely warm and thoughtful! Hoping to visit again in the near future.

  • Scott upgraded us to a larger condo which was great. Lovely views of the pond and a nice deck. The condo is older but was clean, comfortable, and well taken care of. It was convenient for us to see New Bern and the surrounding areas by car. We would definitely return.

Live on the the water in a sheltered inlet with a Magnificent view. Go fishing from home! In Oriental's Newest Marina who have Electric; Water; Wireless Internet; Concrete Docks; Shower & Laundry Facilities, Dinghy Storage, Courtesy Car and a pool!
The boat is rather unique in that it is the world's most fuel efficient 50" or larger powerboat. Your stay in it will help me complete the boat meaning you are helping us make a cleaner greener planet! The area inside is unfurnished and will be similar to camping. Being a 50" boat, it was designed to be large enough to sleep 8 people, so should sleep 6 comfortably when finished. In it's unfinished state it would only sleep 2 comfortably, The boat doesn't have any furnishings, so you will rely on the Marina for facilities for normal living and should consider staying in the boat to be similar to staying in an empty cabin. Once I have beds and other facilities inside the rates will be going up. Update: There is now a single mattress inside.
Nestled within the inner banks, Oriental sits along the beautiful Neuse River, intertwined with several smaller creeks. Wide waters beckon year-round sailing, cruising, kayaking, canoeing and fishing. Oriental offers a wide range of activities including historical walking tours, cycling, tennis, a history museum, art galleries, concerts and plays. Or, if you’re looking for a place to kick back and relax, sit a spell in one of our many parks and enjoy the charm of small-town riverside living. Be careful... Oriental is contagious. Many boaters have stopped "just for the night" and ended up staying a lifetime.

Reelin' in the Years is the best place to unwind after a day of paddling, boating, swimming, biking, hiking, crabbing, or just relaxing and enjoying the Carolina weather. The Outfitter's Center with kayaks, a double sided stone fireplace, grill and a dock to Mill Creek is just down the street, and the pool/clubhouse/tennis/volleyball/playground/pickleball/fitness room area is within walking distance...but most end up riding their bikes. *Please be sure to keep your pets off of the furniture and pick up anything they leave behind. THANK YOU!*
Arlington Place is a private, Neuse riverfront neighborhood in between the coastal towns of Oriental (10 minutes) and New Bern, NC (25 minutes). Arlington Place is in the heart of "summer camp country" and is located in between four large camps (Camp Seagull, Camp Seafarer, Camp Caroline and Camp DonLee) and is an ideal and convenient place for camp families to stay. There are many neighborhood amenities that you will have access to during your stay at Reelin' in the Years. - The pool is open from 9am - 9pm, May through mid-October - You are welcome to use the gas grill at the clubhouse or the park grill at the Outfitter's Center - There is a fitness room at the clubhouse - kayaks are at the Outfitter's Center for kayaking on Mill Creek, the Neuse River and beyond! (first come, first serve) - Boardwalk over marsh connecting neighborhoods and trail system throughout neighborhood - Riverfront beach and fire pit by lot 381 - Boat Ramp - Minnesott Beach ferry that takes you across the river to Beaufort, Morehead City, Atlantic beach, etc is just down the street. Free, car ferry that usually runs twice an hour, super convenient. - Minnesott Beach Golf & Country Club is just down the street and serves breakfast and lunch on the weekends. - Dollar General is about a mile away (left out of neighborhood entrance) for most all of the provisions that you'll need. We REALLY like to eat around here. So while you're in town, be sure to stop at Gary's Oyster Bar, just down the street for fresh seafood. In Oriental, we love the Toucan Grill and the Silos. If you're headed to New Bern, Persimmons and The Chelsea are two of our favorites. Check out the Events Calendar and Blog on our website for area happenings, festivals and other event info.
  • We just came back from Arlington Place and we had such a wonderful family vacation! The cottage was so clean and cosy for our party of four (2 adults and 2 kids) We enjoyed every meal on the screen porched and we used all of the facilities, the gym, pool, basketball court, tennis court! The kids really liked riding their bikes in the streets of Arlington Place, the site was very quiet and people drive really slowly, so it is stress free for the parents! If you need a place to relax, this is it! Take the ferry to go to the ocean, then about a 40 minute drive, and there it is! I fully recommend this place!

  • So so so worth it! Even though it's about an hour to the beaches, it is nice to come home to a change of scenery. The grounds were well kept, and the amenities were well worth it. I miss the cottage already!

  • Excellent decor and special touches throughout the home that made it feel very welcoming. Love the view, location, back porch AND screen porch, and the many community activities. Very peaceful! Wonderful second trip to the area. We kayaked, biked, walked, went swimming at the pool, and played tennis. My favorite spot was reading in the afternoon sun on the back deck that overlooks the river. Owners very accommodating! I know we will return soon!

  • We were given the space a few hours before check-in and we had to change the plans for our vacation and leave a couple of days early. They were so flexible with all of our requests and we were fully refunded for the days we had paid for and couldn't stay for. The space is GORGEOUS! And a perfect get away in the back woods of North Carolina. It rained most of our time, so we weren't able to utilize all that Arlington Place offered, but we cannot wait to come back and make this an annual family vacation! There is a little binder with restaurants and times for the ferries and we utilized both! The days it didn't rain we did tourist"y" things. The Mayo Restaurant they recommend was DELICIOUS!! We also drove two hours to Cedar Island and took the 2 hour Ferry to Ocracoke Island, it was so worth it!! We had a blast. This Air BnB is a steal of a price, immaculately clean, great communication with the hosts, quiet and peaceful. It was even better than what the pictures captured!! We most definitely recommend this place!!

  • Very clean property and comfortable for our group. Close to golf course. There are amenities on the property that we did not get to try, but they looked fabulous, too. We hope to visit again next year!

Picturesque waterfront home with stunning views of the Neuse River!! Watch the dolphins come up the river to play in the morning and head back down at dusk. Relax on the pier as you fish for croaker, flounder, and more. Take a dip in the pool or relax on the riverfront as you watch the boats go by. The private beach is a perfect place to swim, sunbathe, kayak or just relax. You're sure to enjoy the slow pace and peaceful atmosphere at China Grove Plantation.
There is an additional outside shower for showering before or after your pool or river time. The house has an upstairs master suite with a king size bed and master bathroom. The downstairs has a queen/full bed and close by full bath as well as a half bath for guests. The living room has a sleeper sofa and the guest house also has a sleeper sofa.
  • This house is located in a super cute and quiet spot. The pool is just across lawn as is the riverfront beach. The area is beautiful as quiet. Renee is quick to respond to any questions you may come up with.

  • This is a lovely well decorated house. It's very quaint and has a great beachy feel. The beach area off the river is small but we'll kept and we enjoyed it very much. The water was calm and perfect for my young children who I worry about in rougher waters. The pool starts at 3ft 6in and though small was more than sufficient. Neighborhood was quiet and the neighbors very friendly. Only thing we didn't enjoy were the free roaming dogs of neighbors in in other areas surrounding the development. It's also important to note that the home is in a very small town. It's about a 25 minute drive to local shops and restaurants. There also is no tmobile service in about a 30 minute minimum radius from the house. Jacksonville, Pine Shores aquarium, and Atlantic Beach were just over an hour away and made great day trips. Also the upstairs bedroom is a loft and has no door and a partially open wall so there is no privacy from anyone else staying with you. A lot of light shines into the bedroom so expect to be up with the sun. Overall, I would recommend this property to anybody looking for a quiet relaxing vacation. I don't think this location is ideal for younger children but older children would enjoy it as well. Renee was very friendly, had a quick response time and was very helpful.

  • The place was really pretty, the location is beautiful and we had a great time there. Unfortunately the furniture in the living room and outside were very dirty so we had to put towels on them.
