“Alright, this is not the French Riviera anymore, it's about a 2 hour drive. But if your stay on the Riviera is long enough and you have time to go here, it's absolutely worth it. Basically, this place is a paradise for nature lovers. I go there several times every summer. Here's a non-exhaustive list of things that you can do here: 1) Kayak / Pedal boat in the Gorges du Verdon. This gorge is insanely beautiful but during peak summer, there are just way too many people and it degrades the experience. 2) Lavender fields. If you're thinking of particularly famous lavender field pictures, they were probably taken here, on the Plateau de Valensole, above the Sainte-Croix lake. But the period to see them starts from mid-June until mid-July. After mid-July, you won't see many of them. And none the rest of the year. 3) Moustiers-Sainte-Marie village. It's a very cute village which is on the list of the 150 most beautiful villages in France. 4) La route des crêtes, meaning the "Ridge road". This road is very impressive, and watch out if you're scared of heights! It's a loop that follows the cliffs of the Verdon gorge where there are world-renowned climbing spots. There are several breathtaking viewpoints along it.”

“Le lac d’Esparron-de-Verdon, d’une superficie de 328 ha, constitue l’un des plus sauvages du Verdon avec ses multiples calanques et falaises, ses eaux turquoise, ses gorges. Aux abords du lac, le village d’Esparron-de-Verdon, perché sur la roche, offre un point de vue imprenable sur la vallée et le lac. Il est le point de départ idéal pour découvrir le Verdon, avec des villes comme Gréoux-les-Bains et Moustiers-Sainte-Marie à proximité. ”

“This is home to one of the national collections of old roses and apple trees. It has a chateau with a lake, ducks and BIG fish. A lovely modern take on the traditional terraced with the original gravity fed fountain. There is a map in the car park showing trails of varying lengths and incline. Getting to the top of Pic de Charance is a hike but well worth the view.”

“A beautiful village not far from Lac Saint Croix, Moustiers Sainte Marie has been the centre of the pottery trade and faience (the art of painting on ceramics) for centuries. The spring that flows out of the cliff creates a waterfall in the heart of the Moustiers, providing power for the town. Include a visit on the way to Lac Saint Croix and the Gorges du Verdon. It is a good place to have lunch at a café and buy souvenirs of Provence.”
