Leamcon farmhouse is a secluded rural retreat four miles from Schull surrounded by farmland with spectacular Atlantic and castle views. Our back field leads to a quiet pier where you can swim, dive, and fish. Horseriding, beaches, beautiful walks, and wild food foraging nearby.
Leamcon is a renovated 19th Century farmhouse with four bedrooms, a spacious kitchen-dining-living area with stanley stove, a bright sitting/TV room, four bedrooms and two bathrooms. The main West facing bedroom has stunning views out to the Atlantic and a 15th Century O'Mahony Castle. The downstairs bedroom is also west facing and is ensuite. The other two bedrooms are great for kids. The kitchen is very well equipped, down to a lobster pot and lobster crackers.
Guests have full access to all the amenities of the house, including satellite TV/DVD and DVD collection, stereo with CD player and ipod dock and input for other MP3 players. There's a (homemade) table tennis table outside as well as various beach equipment.
If you're looking for peace and quiet then the house is ideal, it's set on two acres of land and my cousin farms the land all around that. You can walk two minutes through our back trail to the quiet pier to enjoy a picnic, fishing from the rocks or swimming in the sheltered cove. The area offers fantastic countryside and coastal walks- stroll towards the Napoleonic tower on Ceann Con for a magnificent view of Roaring Water Bay and its wealth of islands, or amble down to Gunn Point to pick mussels from the rocks at low tide. The track down to my cousins beach (sandy strand) is 1KM from the house. The local equestrian centre is a ten minute walk away. Ten minutes drive west brings you to the sandy beach of Ballyrisode or Goleen village- the gateway to the Mizen, Barleycove and Crookhaven. Ten minutes east is Schull with its lively pubs and restaurants, range of shops, watersports and boats to Cape Clear and Sherkin Islands. You'll really need a car (or a boat) for this house, it's 4 miles from Schull and there's no public transport. However, we have an arrangement with a local taxi service who gives reasonable rates to residents of Leamcon.
Other Things to Note
Our house is dual central heating- oil and coal. There will be a stock of both but we charge on a usage basis (at cost). Oil is metered and coal is based on the average price of a bucket.
