Leamcon farmhouse is a secluded rural retreat four miles from Schull surrounded by farmland with spectacular Atlantic and castle views. Our back field leads to a quiet pier where you can swim, dive, and fish. Horseriding, beaches, beautiful walks, and wild food foraging nearby.
Leamcon is a renovated 19th Century farmhouse with four bedrooms, a spacious kitchen-dining-living area with stanley stove, a bright sitting/TV room, four bedrooms and two bathrooms. The main West facing bedroom has stunning views out to the Atlantic and a 15th Century O'Mahony Castle. The downstairs bedroom is also west facing and is ensuite. The other two bedrooms are great for kids. The kitchen is very well equipped, down to a lobster pot and lobster crackers.
Guests have full access to all the amenities of the house, including satellite TV/DVD and DVD collection, stereo with CD player and ipod dock and input for other MP3 players. There's a (homemade) table tennis table outside as well as various beach equipment.
If you're looking for peace and quiet then the house is ideal, it's set on two acres of land and my cousin farms the land all around that. You can walk two minutes through our back trail to the quiet pier to enjoy a picnic, fishing from the rocks or swimming in the sheltered cove. The area offers fantastic countryside and coastal walks- stroll towards the Napoleonic tower on Ceann Con for a magnificent view of Roaring Water Bay and its wealth of islands, or amble down to Gunn Point to pick mussels from the rocks at low tide. The track down to my cousins beach (sandy strand) is 1KM from the house. The local equestrian centre is a ten minute walk away. Ten minutes drive west brings you to the sandy beach of Ballyrisode or Goleen village- the gateway to the Mizen, Barleycove and Crookhaven. Ten minutes east is Schull with its lively pubs and restaurants, range of shops, watersports and boats to Cape Clear and Sherkin Islands. Have a memorable stay in West Cork with our advice on fantastic walks, great restaurants and buying seafood direct from local fishermen at our local and nearby piers.
You'll really need a car (or a boat) for this house, it's 4 miles from Schull and there's no public transport. However, we have an arrangement with a local taxi service who gives reasonable rates to residents of Leamcon.
Spent a birthday weekend with friends in Leamcon (website hidden)'s in a great location not too far from civilisation but yet gives you the feeling that you're really in the wilds. Its a really charming house with buckets of character. Rustic and cosy and everything you could need from a cheese slicer to a toy zylephone. A great selection of books too. We enjoyed our stay immensely. A
sweet house in a really special part of west cork. Sarah and Johnny are very generous and obliging hosts. Would love to have stayed longer
Wonderful house - so quiet and lonely and yet so beautiful and full of good vibrations. It is a place with a lot of joy. Johnny and Sarah are very helpful and nice people, and I will happily return antoher time. Thank you !
"Good man yourself"
Dealt with Johnny and he's a top man. Very helpful, easy going and amusing. Great directions and suggestions in the book. all smooth and top Irish welcome.
The place itself is simply brilliant. ideal for families in the summer but we went as a couple on a cold weekend in November and still had a great escape. miles of open spaces, horizons, and views to die for.
Johnny and Sarah's cottage is amazing and located in one of the most beautiful parts of Ireland. The kids absolutely loved the place inside and out and were in their element pretty much the entire time we were there. The amenities are excellent with wifi, TV, DVD, washer, dryer, very well equipped kitchen, comfortable beds, outdoor and indoor games for the kids etc. However, the beauty of this place lies in the location, right on the periphery of Ireland's Atlantic shoreline with breath-taking views from the upstairs bedroom and beautiful landscape to all sides. Although it is a little outside of Schull, the local taxi guys are easy going and super-reasonable. If you are looking for a tranquil hideaway on Cork's magical South-west coast, then you couldn't do much better than this place!
We absolutely loved our stay in Leamcon house. It is in a fabulous location right on the coast. Kids heaven with the little beach and the rock pools and a place to jump of the pier and swim. The house was very comfortable and full of character. The Stanley Stove is amazing and made it lovely and warm. Beds were good and the kitchen is well kitted out. You can see that a lot of thought has been put into the house and that it is really for living in.
The communication with the owners (Johnny and Sarah) was fabulous. We had lots of information and very clear instructions on how to get there. We would recommend any one else to stay there and hope to stay there again ourselves sometime.
(We were 5 adults and 5 kids)
Johnny and Sarah hosted myself and a large group of friends whilst we filmed a documentary in the local area. We couldn't have asked for more. The house had lots of character and provided a great place to wind down for the crew. Johnny went over and above to make sure our trip was exactly what we had hoped for, giving detailed info and lots of great local advice.
Thanks again Johnny and Sarah.
What a wonderful stay at this cozy farmhouse in the middle of beautiful Irish countryside. Sarah and Johnny were fantastic and generous hosts! An ideal escape and wonderful experience.

We live in Phibsboro in Dublin, with our three kids; Johnny travels around the world with work so when we get a chance we like to travel to Leamcon to unwind from city life and let the kids have a taste of country life. We cook fish that we buy from fishermen in the locality or mussels we pick ourselves and hang out in front of the fire and play cards.
