The space

Leamcon is a renovated 19th Century farmhouse with four bedrooms, a spacious kitchen-dining-living area with stanley stove, a bright sitting/TV room, four bedrooms and two bathrooms. The main West facing bedroom has stunning views out to the Atlantic and a 15th Century O'Mahony Castle. The downstairs bedroom is also west facing and is ensuite. The other two bedrooms are great for kids. The kitchen is very well equipped, down to a lobster pot and lobster crackers.

Guest access

Guests have full access to all the amenities of the house, including satellite TV/DVD and DVD collection, stereo with CD player and ipod dock and input for other MP3 players. There's a (homemade) table tennis table outside as well as various beach equipment.

The neighborhood

If you're looking for peace and quiet then the house is ideal, it's set on two acres of land and my cousin farms the land all around that. You can walk two minutes through our back trail to the quiet pier to enjoy a picnic, fishing from the rocks or swimming in the sheltered cove. The area offers fantastic countryside and coastal walks- stroll towards the Napoleonic tower on Ceann Con for a magnificent view of Roaring Water Bay and its wealth of islands, or amble down to Gunn Point to pick mussels from the rocks at low tide. The track down to my cousins beach (sandy strand) is 1KM from the house. The local equestrian centre is a ten minute walk away. Ten minutes drive west brings you to the sandy beach of Ballyrisode or Goleen village- the gateway to the Mizen, Barleycove and Crookhaven. Ten minutes east is Schull with its lively pubs and restaurants, range of shops, watersports and boats to Cape Clear and Sherkin Islands. Have a memorable stay in West Cork with our advice on fantastic walks, great restaurants and buying seafood direct from local fishermen at our local and nearby piers.

Getting around

You'll really need a car (or a boat) for this house, it's 4 miles from Schull and there's no public transport. However, we have an arrangement with a local taxi service who gives reasonable rates to residents of Leamcon.

Other things to note

Our house is dual central heating- oil and coal. There will be a stock of both but we charge on a usage basis (at cost). Oil is metered and coal is based on the average price of a bucket.

We could not have been more pleased with the house, surroundings and neighbors. What a wonderful vacation we enjoyed for 4 weeks. I cannot recommend any improvements to perfection. A charming house, comfortable, clean, great views and bird life, farm setting, etc. It was close to all the things we enjoyed - great hiking on and off road, historical museums and exhibits, charming pubs and restaurants and to top it off - a great medical clinic in Schull which one of us needed.

Beautiful secluded farmhouse! We went to Ireland for our honeymoon and after a week of going non-stop, we really wanted to slow down and enjoy the beauty that Ireland had to offer. This farm house was the perfect spot for us! The west bedroom has amazing views of the coast and the hills of grass! We got friendly with a couple of horses nearby and fed them grapes. We saw a fox along a side road! The room with the tv gets pretty chilly, but we just got a fire going and bundled up together! Plenty of hot water and good shower pressure! The place was a little muggy, but let the breeze through the house and it works itself out... What do you expect from a 100 year old farm house?! The book with instructions came in really handy! READ IT! Johnnie was super responsive with all our questions! It was a great 4 day stay and one of my favorite places!

We loved our stay at Leamcon, which is a quirky farmhouse in idyllic West Cork. We booked it for my Dad's 60th birthday celebrations and had a wonderful weekend. Sarah and Johnny were most helpful, providing loads of information on restaurants, taxis and fun things to do during our stay.

We arrived at Leamcon in the late afternoon so we could take in the amazing location in all its glory. Surrounded by countryside and a short walk through a gate to the sea , we were thrilled with the welcoming feel at Leamcon. The house is cosy and comfortable, and feels like a home as soon as you walk in. The main bedroom upstairs has an absolutely stunning view of the sea so after some negotiations about the advantages of view vs being near to the bathrooms downstairs, we took the upstairs and settled in. There is lots of storage space and lovely wide windowsills with big comfy cushions to sit on, and marvel at the slowly setting sun. Johnny and Sarah kindly left us a bottle of wine, and very comprehensive instructions for using the house and a personal guide to exploring the area. There were four adults in our party so the house was perfect for us, and I can imagine children would be really happy too.

One of the best place we tried since we discovered Air bnb. I was looking for a perfect relaxing place to stay with my family and it was better than I imagined ! Beautiful house with lovely and comfortables rooms. Sarah Johnny welcomed us with some fresh flowers and we enjoyed the fire place. One of the room was a little bit colder the first night but became warmer after few hours. The house is as describe and we definitively recommend this place ! A great place to stay to enjoy West Cork !

A last minute decision to stay in West Cork, we got an immediate response from Sarah and Johnny, they made immediate arrangement to clean the place and even had a fire lighting for our arrival. Adorable cottage exactly, if not better, as advertised. We enjoyed beautiful views, a characterful cottage. We will be back for a longer stay.

We live in Phibsboro in Dublin, with our three kids; Johnny travels around the world with work so when we get a chance we like to travel to Leamcon to unwind from city life and let the kids have a taste of country life. We cook fish that we buy from fishermen in the locality or mussels we pick ourselves and hang out in front of the fire and play cards.
