This well placed, well cared for and beautifully decorated place has superb staff. Nandu and his colleagues are attentive, helpful, available when you need them, but not 'in your face'. Nandu provides a delicious omelette, too!
I stayed at Sarat Bose Road on my arrival in India 1 - 3 December. A short visit, but a very pleasant one. I had some difficulties with mobile phones on my arrival in India and Amrit and Nandu gave me excellent advice and assistance.
The house is within walking distance of the Birla Academy of Art and Culture, which was the first place I wished to visit. There are good restaurants nearby, and plenty happening on the street.
Given Kolkata is a noisy place in any case, this house is relatively quiet. I had no trouble sleeping in the very comfortable bed. Amrit is helpful and friendly and a pleasure to talk to. He's certainly keen to keep his guests happy and he clearly has a strong emotional connection to this comfortable home. I loved hearing its story.
My only negative is that I was unable to book the house for my return to Kolkata later in December as it was booked out... says it all, really.
Very comfortable stay.
Recently renovated property.
Everything in order & definitely worth the money.
My mom and I planned to take a trip back to India after 25 years. I wanted to experience India as I remember it growing up as a little kid in my grandfathers house. I chose to stay away from the traditional hotels and look for a house similar to my grandfathers. I was excited when I saw the images of Sarat Bose Road Guest House and booked to stay there for a month right away.
I was blown away at how wonderful my experience was. The rooms are large, beautiful and clean, the house is exquisite with intriguing antiques throughout. The bathrooms are modern. Amritendu was a fantastic host. He made sure we were happy and visited the guest house many times to see if we needed anything.
I now must take some time to speak about the caretaker Nando. During our stay he became family to us. He is one of the hardest workers I have met and is not only attentive to all your needs but also genuinely cares about the house and the guests. He is extremely helpful with any needs you may have, getting a taxi, food, medicine, anything at all. Nando has been working at the house since he was a young child and his appreciation and care for the house and guests are superb. There is also a security guard who is very kind and resides there to make sure you are safe.
There is a Cafe Coffee day next door, an ATM a few doors down, a beauty salon and food market only two blocks away.
I highly recommend staying here, you will not be disappointed. Just got back to NYC and I miss it already.
Thank you Amritendu and Nando!
