This beautiful, cozy log cabin sits 600 ft higher than Lake Superior offering breathtaking views of the Tettegouche State Park hills and the Big Lake as far as the Apostle Islands. Centrally located with hiking, biking, snowshoeing, skiing, beach combing, and waterfall sighting can all be done within 1-5 miles of the cabin. We built this cabin ourselves to be a quiet retreat with an inspiring view to enjoy the natural beauty of the North Shore. Enjoy a getaway in this one of a kind property!
The space
We love hearing Ilgen Falls in the distance along with the wind in the trees. Sitting high on this ridge, you have a unique view of sky, water, and land. Between the comfort of the cabin and the expanse of the view, it can be a hard place to want to leave. It has been our pleasure to share this inspirational piece of the North Shore!
In warm weather, sit on the deck and enjoy the awe inspiring view. Watch storms and freighters move across the water from a unique perch that is level with the soaring birds while you grill your dinner. Sip some wine on the enclosed screen porch or take a nap listening to nature. In winter, enjoy the heat of the wood stove, read a book in the comfortable recliner, or come home to the smell of a crockpot meal after a vigorous day of snowshoeing or hiking the amazing parks and trails in the area.
The driveway to our property is a 1/2 mile long gravel switch back road. Once you pull into our parking space you will already get a preview of the sweeping view of the lake and surrounding forest.
There is about 20 ft between the entry door and the parking area. Upon entering the cabin the bathroom with shower, single sink, and washer/dryer will be on your right. Directly in front of you will be the stairs to the loft where we have games, small smart tv, queen bed, and double futon. To your left is the living space with wood stove (wood provided), reclining love seat and chair and 4 seat table. The kitchen has a refrigerator with upper freezer, microwave, and electric stove top and oven. The main floor bedroom has 1 queen bed and closet and dresser with extra linens. There is a 3 season screened porch, our favorite room, with queen futon and 2 patio chairs. The large front deck has 2 adirondack chairs, a picnic table and a propane grill with propane provided. An outdoor firepit is available for use. Wood can be purchased at gas stations or road side stands.
Everything inside is provided except personal items and food. We do have salt, pepper, oil, coffee, and other miscellaneous basics.
The cabin is kept at 60 degrees in the winter. Wood for the wood stove is provided to heat beyond that for a real log cabin experience.
There are many opportunities for outdoor recreation very close to the cabin. We enjoy walking down the driveway and across the road to Tettegouche State Park Ilgen Falls. A Superior hiking trailhead is 1 mile south. Tettegouche State Park visitor center is 2 miles away with a beautiful cliff shoreline trail to hike along with multiple waterfall options. Palisade Head, Split Rock Lighthouse, and Sugarloaf Cove are all within 20 minutes of the cabin.
The cabin has enough sleeping space for 6, however it is tight quarters for 6 adults particularly in winter.
Guest access
You’ll have private access to the cabin, the parking area, fire pit and the trail down to it.
Other things to note
Due to how steep the shared driveway is we do require 4wd or all wheel drive in the winter. We do have it plowed but plan ahead in case there is a large storm forecast.
