This cottage is in a very remote position, and is the highest dwelling the Western Isles as far as I can see. The sunroom faces West and offers a panorama of Skye from the Cuillin mountains to the tip of Trotternich (well you have to step outside for that). Huge SWW sky.
It is a traditional croft cottage, with many original features. It has been our family holiday home for 40 years.
You can walk directly from it both up Dun Caan and down to Inver beach.

The space
The cottage has a double, a twin, and a very small single bedroom upstairs, and there is a good futon for a sixth person. The drawing room has a wood burner (firewood in shed), the kitchen is well-equipped, with a table, or you can dine in the sunroom. The bathroom is downstairs. There is a lovely grassy area overlooking Skye.

Other things to note
The drive is steep and rough.
There is a router that can do streamjing, and all other internet. We have a a BBC TV license.
The water comes from the fenced-off spring above the tank. It is not inexhaustible, especially in times of drought, so please use reasonably. We have always enjoyed it as beautiful drinking water, but please make your own decision on this. The hot water tank needs to reheat after a bath, about an hour. It will be On when you arrive, but you can if you wish switch it to the timer (switch in kitchen).
Some of the furniture dates from my parents and is quite old and can be delicate. There are some classic retro items here and there. Outside can get very wet and slippery so please take care.
Waste bins are at passing place on the road.
Please plan your trip carefully, being sure to check the ferry times between Skye and Raasay.

The Isle of Raasay is a stunning location with a small friendly community, almost all of whom live at the south end of the island in and around the village of Inverarish. Along with the ferry terminal, Inverarish has Raasay House, which is a hotel/outdoor centre (activities can be booked), and has a bar, cafe and restaurant. There is the newly opened Raasay distillery with a visitor centre, and there is a craft shop. There is a well-stocked shop with post office and please support this community-owned business. Raasay venison is the very best! But no doubt most visitors will be coming for the quiet, the space, the landscape, the flora and fauna, and the air. That is really what the croft is all about.

Hi I'm Toby, Oliver Buxton's dad, and I have taken over the hosting from Olly because he's got a lot on his plate. I live in Oxford, sort of semi-retired. We started offering the cottage for rent last year; it is much better off occupied as much as possible, and it means we have been able to get on with some quite expensive works such as a reliable water supply. And we really like sharing it.
