Relax in a private, two-room suite within our home in one of the UK's most beautiful national parks - the New Forest, with its walks, cycle tracks and beaches. Enjoy a breakfast of your choice from vegan to a traditional cooked full English.
Minimum stay TWO nights unless by special arrangement.
We have a two-room, self-contained annex within our home in one of Britain's most beautiful national parks - the New Forest.
In the UK we call this a 'granny annex'; a suite of rooms attached to the family home but with complete privacy.
THE BEDROOM: You get to sleep in an antique Victorian iron double bed which is extremely comfortable with views over your own personal patio. On sunny days (we do have them in Britain) you can eat out on the patio.
LIVING ROOM: An adjacent living room provides the comfort of a sofa which converts into a double bed for two further guests. Obviously a sofa bed is less comfortable than a real bed but here guests get the luxury of a flat screen TV on the wall for programmes, DVDs or gaming. There is a wood burning stove in the living room for those wetter, cooler, wintery evenings when you need some coziness. Furnishing is completed with an oval table. Free wi-fi throughout.
EN SUITE: The apartment has its own entrance and an en suite bathroom fitted with basin, toilet, shower and heated towel rack. Being self-contained you can have complete privacy and can come and go as you please.
CHILDREN: Well behaved children are welcome but please be advised that we do not have a cot or the facilities to cater for the very young.
FOOD: There are NO COOKING FACILITIES in the rooms but we include breakfast in the price (with eggs laid daily by our own hens) and the occasional evening meal from the family kitchen by prior arrangement at extra cost. There are three inns (pubs) in the village - all of which serve food. Or you could cook up something on a portable barbecue (provided) on the patio.
GARDEN ROOM: We also have a Scandinavian reindeer lodge in the garden which has three bench beds and a cooking console but no water or toilet facilities. It is only for the very hardy (or foolhardy) with sleeping bags but is a great place for entertaining - especially in the winter months!
LOCATION: Our property is 10 mins by car from the sea and close to the large towns of Bournemouth (20 mins), Poole (35 Mins), Southampton (35 mins) and Salisbury (45 mins). It is a very beautiful part of southern England with easy transport links to London (approx 2 hours) by motorway, or by train or coach. Guests travelling by public transport can be collected from coach and train stations if required.
The New Forest is, in fact, a very old medieval woodland once the favoured hunting ground of England's royalty. Today it is a tourist haunt for off-road cyclists, walkers, sailors, historians, naturalists and bird watchers. Ponies, cattle, donkeys and pigs in season graze freely and deer are frequently seen. Nearby Bournemouth provides the sandy beaches, bright lights and night life.
The village is a good base for visiting historic southern Britain - Stonehenge, Winchester (once the royal capital of England), Corfe Castle and the Jurassic Coast, the Solent and the Isle of Wight. Both Amanda and Terry are knowledgeable locals who have known the area since childhood. It would be our pleasure to ensure you have a fulfilling and enjoyable stay.
The annex is private with access to a personal patio (see pictures). You are welcome to use the garden and visit the chickens in our small wood at the bottom of the garden
Interaction with Guests
As much or as little as you wish. We are here to help you and share our lifetimes knowledge of the area and its activities.
Noise. Please respect our family which is living in other parts of the house.
Chickens prefer NOT to be chased around the garden.
Well behaved dogs are welcome but they are prohibited from sleeping on the bed or the sofa. Please bring a bed for your pets.
We would advise you to leave your cats at home as they do not seem to understand that beds are not for their personal comfort.
Enjoyed a wonderful stay during the Easter week. Self contained Accommodation was as described, nice and spacious, which suited us far better than being cooped up in a hotel room with a young child. Terry made us feel very welcome, and provided a great breakfast every morning. Each day he gave us insider tips on where to go and what to see in the area, which helped us get the most out of our stay. Our 5 year old son loved it very much and enjoyed collecting an egg from the hens for his breakfast. Peaceful but accessible village location with a good local pub restaurant within walking distance. Definitely would go back to stay again, to enjoy this wonderful part of the country.
Amanda and Terry were wonderful hosts during our family visit to the New Forrest! With brilliant humor and excellent breakfast-cooking skills, they made sure we had a perfect time. They helped us with directions, finding a place for dinner and even showed us their favourite spot along the coast, in which we joined them for a hike with them and their friends. The bed&sofa bed were very comfy and we had everything we needed in the rooms. If we're in the area again, we will definitely stay with them again! Highly recommended! Thanks Amanda & Terry, hope to meet you again!
We had a wonderful 4 night stay with Terry and Amanda who made the us (incl.1 child) feel very welcome. Terry was helpful and accomodating with our complicated arrival plans and kindly collected us from the local train station. He cooked a superb breakfast every morning and gave us great tips for days out in the new forest area.
The rooms were clean and comfortable and we would happily stay again. Many thanks Terry and Amanda!
I sent my parents to New Forest for my Dad's 60th through airbnb. They had a wonderful time. Terry gave them a lovely welcome, and they described him as 'lovely bloke, an absolute gentleman'. They raved about the breakfasts, which used all local produce and set them up each day. They spent a day in Portsmouth visiting the historic dockyard and Mary Rose, and the rest of the time exploring New Forest. The house itself was really nice and very clean and warm. They asked me to pass on their thanks to Terry for being such a brilliant host. And from me personally, thank you so much for your help arranging the trip with my parents. My dad had a fantastic 60th birthday trip and their first airbnb experience could not have been better.
Terry was very welcoming, helped us to find the way when we got lost. He showed us the place and explained how everything was working. Also he asked at what time we would like to have breakfast - and food was amazing! Not only us enjoyed it, but also our baby could eat :) He advised us what to visit and how to get to the desired locations. Overall we had a great weekend!
We had an amazing stay with Terry and Amanda. The annex was beautiful, very homely and it had everything we needed. Terry has put together a folder of walking and cycling routes for all over the New Forest and was a great help when it came to picking which routes to do. He had guide books and an OS map for reference which was also really helpful. Terry has great suggestions for places to eat and his local knowledge is very useful. The breakfast is delicious and sets you up well for the day. I don't think there is any way we can fault our stay here. Thank you so much Terry, we will definitely be back!
Terry was extremely helpful was amazing and suggesting activities to do, he helped with booking bike hire and suggesting a really great route with good pubs on route. Terry was kind enough to book us dinner for valentines evening at the local restaurant which was lovely. The setup is great with a good size bedroom and lounge and private bathroom. We also had our own private TV and dvd player with a selection of films.
Breakfast was excellent great cooked breakfast with fruit option and cereals.
Towels, coffee making facilities are provided.
Hi. Amanda is a former senior midwife, married to Terry with two teenage girls - Alaina and Phoebe. We are well travelled and between us have covered much of the globe (still have a bit of Asia to do). We both grew up in this area and returned after many years working and travelling away. Terry is semi-retired and able to devote time meeting guests and ensuring they are comfortable, well fed, and enjoying themselves in this beautiful area of the UK. It is a joy to meet new people and return the wonderful hospitality we have experienced from others in our travels around the world.
We are keen off-road cyclists, sailors, and enjoy a good party.
