About This Listing
Your room is very attractive & light filled with a comfortable queen sized bed. My house is traditional with an English feel. Lots of art, accessories & personality. I am definitely not a minimalist!. Your bath with a tub/shower combo has a skylight & is directly across the hall. It does share with my single bedroom when that is booked. You are within a mile of Beaufort's wonderful waterfront & historic district and walking or biking distance to the library, grocery & drug stores. I have a rocking chair front porch that you can sit on & enjoy glimpses of the marsh or my flower filled garden. The neighborhood pool is open in the summer one block away. Driveway parking, a small LCD TV in your room, & everything you need to enjoy a visit to the beautiful Crystal Coast with its wonderful beaches, friendly people & many other attractions.
This would be a great place for a couple or single woman to stay on business or vacation. Beaufort is the third oldest town in NC - we just celebrated our 300th anniversary! It was the home of Blackbeard & there is continuing evacuation of his ship, the "Queen Ann's Revenge"..There are wonderful independent restaurants & shops on Front Street & you could just people watch for hours. Every day new boats come in & there's a great boardwalk for strolling. The Maritime Museum is free & very interesting. The closest beach is on Radio Island, about 2 miles away. It has views of the Beaufort Inlet from downtown to out to sea past Fort Macon.
When you cross the bridge to Morehead City there are more great restaurants as well as all the chain stores. Most of the charter fishing boats leave from here to fish in the nearby Gulf Stream. Then go across another bridge to Atlantic Beach (about 5 miles from my house) & you will find Fort Macon, the most visited NC state park, at the east end of the island. To the west is the Aquarium & miles & miles of beach, more shopping restaurants, movie theatres, & one beach town after another, ending in Emerald Isle
"Down East" of Beaufort, are quaint fishing villages with their own history & dialect. At the end is Cedar Island, where the ferry can take you to Ocracoke & up the rest of the Outer Banks.
This area is known all over as less crowded than other coastal resorts with many pluses, such as the wild horses that you can see from Front Street just across Taylor's Creek, Or take a short ferry ride to Shackleford Banks to see more horses on an uninhabited island. Cape Lookout is our local lighthouse- you can see its beam from the land, but it's great to go across on a boat & climb it or cross over to the ocean side of the National Seashore where you can imagine what it was like when the first settlers came to this area 400 years ago.Our historic district is as fine as anywhere & the Historic Association gives tours on its English double decker bus. Diving is another attraction- we have so many shipwrecks offshore. This is a boater's paradise- I've never been to a place where boating was more popular. And of course, there's nothing finer than just relaxing in the sun & cooling off with a refreshing dip in the ocean.
There is a private airport here & the nearest commercial one is New Bern, about 45 minutes away & a great place for a day trip. You will need a car to do much- we are lacking in public transport. You may use my 2 bikes- a man's & a woman's - as long as the tires aren't flat from lack of air! If you need extra space- have a child or 2 people who want to each have their own room- I have a twin room also & will give a special price for booking the 2.
You can use the washer/dryer if you ask 1st- just need to show you a few things. Same with the kitchen. I have a great front porch with a swing & rocking chairs as well as a bistro table to use whenever you like.
Interaction with Guests
I have enjoyed meeting all my guests. I'm a friendly person & will enjoy talking to you if you'd like, but if you're busy that's fine too.
My neighborhood is quiet & convenient. Very safe but easy to get places.
Public transportation is almost nonexistant here. There is a bike path to downtown & taxis if you really need them, but having a car is important here.
Other Things to Note
Beaufort is one of the nicest coastal spots in the South- if you haven't been here, try us!
I am a friendly & reasonable person, but expect respect for my property. If you're not sure of something, please ask. You may have coffee in the morning - let me know so I'll fix extra- if you need to use the kitchen otherwise please check with me.You are welcome to sit on the inside sun porch or outside front porch when you like. Please do not have other people over & make sure the house is locked when you leave. I expect reasonable quiet at all times & especially between 9 pm & 9 am. I have a sweet inside cat, so if you are allergic or don't like them, this isn't the place for you. As you may know, cats rule a house! Smoking is only allowed on the front porch. No drunk or rude behavior will be tolerated. Otherwise if you're a normal considerate person we will get along fine & you'll have a great time! Thank you!
Jane was very welcoming. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at her home in Beaufort. It was the perfect weekend getaway and I look forward to returning. She was so helpful with tips on where to go, what to see and do. I would gladly recommend her home to anyone looking for a great place to stay near the coast.
My husband and I came to Beaufort for a 3 day weekend. Jane was welcoming and informative, showing us everything we needed to know. Magazines and brochures about the area were helpful. The description and picture of the room were accurate. The bed was one of the coziest in recent memory--I slept like a baby. Freshly cut roses greeted us in every room, a special treat. The house is conveniently located close to a bike trail to "downtown" Beaufort. We were comfortable in Jane's house and we hope to go back again.
We made a quick fishing trip to the coast for the weekend. Unfortunately, we got held up on the way there and did not get in until late. Jane was very accommodating despite the hour and made us feel welcome in her home. We stayed in a cozy room decorated in nautical theme. It smelled wonderful thanks to a bouquet of Jane's home grown roses. She has a sunny little patio and garden flanked by her roses. It was easy for us to come and go from the waterfront despite our full days. She lives close to the waterfront in Beaufort ( a favorite destination). We had easy access to great restaurants and the boat ramp. A very good visit over all!
Very comfortable room in a quiet neighborhood. Host was the perfect amount of hospitable and accommodating. Room was exactly as pictured. I would gladly stay again and recommend to a friend.
My sister and I stayed at jane's house this past Saturday as we were attending a wedding in Beaufort. This house is adorable, full of wonderful beach side decor. Te room was exactly like in the picture and very comfortable. Jane is very charming and helpful, she even made us coffee in the morning before we left.
