Welcome to Oaxaca.
I have used Airbnb to stay in cities in many countries for several years and I believe Carlos and Donna offer an experience that far exceeds all the others! Before my arrival, I had several questions about local activities. Carlos responded swiftly and had gone out of his way to acquire information for me from the Tourist Office. He was also very accommodating by offering me a very warm welcome when I arrived close to midnight. I was so relieved to see that I didn't have to run out to get breakfast food the morning after my arrival, for Carlos and Donna had stocked it with everything I could have wanted. The apartment is immaculate and very well equipped. It is located on a quiet street right in the center of town with easy walking access to all the city sights. Carlos is a wonderful resource for touring the area. We hired him to drive us to Hierve de Agua, Mitla, Ocotlan, and other interesting stops along the way. He is familiar with the surrounding communities of Oaxaca and he is a great guide. Overall, I would say that Carlos and Donna demonstrate the real spirit of what started Airbnb, for they are interested in truly engaging with their guests and they are wonderful hosts to those who visit the city they love.
Donna and Carlos, and their lovely apartment, really made our time in Oaxaca. This property is perfectly located - an easy walk to most everything you would want to be part of, visit, and experience as well as being an easy walk to catch a taxi collectivo for sites out of the city, such as Monte Alban. Donna and Carlos are warm, helpful, engaging and have the perfect touch to orienting you to the city, the apartment, and all things Oaxaca. So nice of them to not only provide coffee, milk, yogurt, granola, tortillas, and quesillo - but a fully stocked fridge in case we needed anything extra - a perfect place to stay.
This was a FABULOUS find for our stay in Oaxaca. We went to visit friends who are expats there, and when our friends saw our place and were super impressed with the central location but also how quiet it was, since it is on the corner of a street that dead-ends into a pedestrian walkway, and across from a walled botanical garden. The apartment is airy and shady inside, and there is a beautiful courtyard and roofdeck outside. There's a fully equipped kitchen, a very large closet, and a bedroom with two beds, a single and a double. The furniture and dishes all seem to be sturdy and artisanal. There's lovely art on the walls. The descriptions and photos don't even do it justice. It's incredibly convenient and comfortable.
Donna and Carlos were extremely helpful, and we really appreciated that they stocked the fridge with food and drink, helped us with any questions we had, and called us a cab for our early morning departure. They also provided a terrific list of suggested restaurants, grocery stores, etc. Our friends looked it over and said that all of their local favorites were on it.
We traveled with our one year old daughter, and I'm sure she was sometimes loud and otherwise made us more difficult guests. But Donna and Carlos were lovely -- they even made sure to put milk and yogurt in the fridge for her.
Thank you, Donna and Carlos! And everyone reading this -- stay here. It's unbeatable.
The apartment is very nice, clean, spacious and very well located. Upon arrival, we had some Quesillo (famous Oaxaca cheese) with some tortillas and beer. We thought that was awesome!
The beds & pillow are great!
We had everything we could need for a home away from home plus the view from the terrace is outstanding!
We stayed about 2 weeks so we had someone come in and clean every couple of days, take the trash out and change linens.
Donna and Carlos were fantastic. My wife and I arrived a bit late on Sunday night and were met by Donna who showed us around their beautiful place. Importantly, Carlos had stocked the fridge with some food and beer(!) knowing that we would arrive tired and hungry...a very nice touch.
The apartment was very cute with interesting and original artwork that we really enjoyed to look at. Donna and Carlos are obviously artists and this can be seen in the tasteful way that the apartment is decorated.
And Donna provided lots of very useful info (and guidebooks) about Oaxaca and the vicinity...she really was a great host (and she even booked the cab for us when we were heading back to the airport).
I cannot recommend this location more highly. All the reviews I read prior to coming were absolutely accurate. Beautiful, relaxing and a great location. Donna and Carlos were incredible hosts and very lovely to speak with. The rooftop terrace has amazing views! The apartment was perfectly appointed with lots of little thoughtful details..I would definitely come back! Thank you to Donna and Carlos for a lovely, yet short return to Oaxaca.
My husband and I were delighted to spend most of March enjoying Oaxaca and this beautiful apartment. From the moment we arrived, we felt at home and cared for. Carlos greeted us with tasty local foods and a great orientation to our lovely neighborhood, as well as information about Oaxaca and surrounding villages. The apartment is spacious and filled with local art, and was absolutely perfect for us. The shared entryway and rooftop terrace are charming, and we spent hours on the terrace in the hammock and lounge chairs, just relaxing. Oaxaca is an amzing place, and this lovely apartment allowed us to enjoy it to the full. We can't thank Donna and Carlos enough for their warm hospitality.

About the Host, Donna & Carlos
I came upon Oaxaca in the early seventies while traveling through Mexico and Central America looking at ancient ruins, pottery villages and having the adventure of a lifetime. As the years went by I continued to return to the"Land of Chapulines". It retained its magic. And so, in 1996 I gave up the life I loved in a big city and moved to Oaxaca to live a dream. I met my partner, Carlos, and together we renovated an old house in the "el centro".. Renting my own apartment in Casa Zapoteca, short term through airbnb, gives me the freedom to continue the exploration if only for a few weeks at a time.
