Civita di Bagnoregio and its “Valle dei Calanchi":
Perched on a hill made of soft, crumbling rock, the ancient township of Civita di Bagnoregio, once an Etruscan settlement, can now only be reached by crossing a footbridge.
The town overlooks the underlying valley and from this vantage point, you will be able to admire the network
of pale stone ridges which form the “Calanchi" – stunning clay formations which are a Naturalistic Protected Area and Site of Community Importance (SIC) in the European Community.
The pattern of gullies and white-clay crests are a result of erosion which has gone on for centuries.
