This beautiful 17th Century farmhouse is situated in its own gardens and 1.5 acre small-holding. Close to both the A390 (0.6 miles) and A38 (1.8 miles) routes into Cornwall, Pengover is 1.6 miles east of Liskeard - an active, attractive market town. We are 20/25 minutes from the gorgeous stretch of beach at Whitsand Bay and the whole of the fascinating and attractive Rame peninsula with pretty, unspoilt villages and breath-taking coastal footpath. Looe, Polperro, Downderry and Seaton are also 20/25 minutes from Manor Farm. There is ready access by road or mainline rail to Plymouth centre (17 miles distant) and Liskeard is an excellent start point for exploratory walks on
Bodmin - such as, to the Cheese Rings - for visits to Lostwithiel, St Austell and the Eden Project. This is a rural retreat away from the more varied social scene found along Cornwall's coastline.
I am always resident, running a Cornish apple orchard, producing delicious varieties of freshly-pressed apple juice. There are free-range laying hens and home-grown lambs! The attractive land slopes gently and has good views towards Dartmoor.
Indoors, you will find the farm kitchen welcoming and warm with its Aga range and big pine settle for Cornish teas while large, delicious breakfasts - cooked or Continental - are set in the dining area of the large living room. The food is locally sourced (some, home-grown: please let me know ahead of your visit if you are veggie/vegan) and the atmosphere of the huge living room is relaxing, with its good morning light and toasty logstove on cooler evenings.
Double Room 2 - or 'Queenie' is large, airy and light, with a comfortable bed with firm-ish mattress, shabby-chic furniture providing plenty of storage and hanging space, plus a desk to work at in the window. There is a glorious view over the garden. In the corner is a suitable baby-changing table. You might want to use the low nursing chair and there is room for a cot. I have available a small rocking cot or larger drop-side cot and bedding. The room is not en suite, but does have tea/coffee-making facilities. The family bathroom is only three steps away! A ground-floor shower-room (with more powerful shower) is also available to all guests.
Another 2 bedrooms - listed separately - are different in style and size. Individuals, couples, families and those with babies and toddlers: all are welcome! None of the bedrooms are en suite (the house has listed status), but there is a large family bathroom and smaller shower-room available for guests.
The farm is a no-smoking zone (there is a tranquil Cornish lane adjacent, for walks with lovely views) and, regretfully, I cannot allow pets due to the near presence of sheep in the oak-tree field. The surroundings are quiet and out of the glare of street-lights, so there can be spectacular star-lit nights!
Within 2 miles, there are is a choice of pubs offering good food, and guests can be steered to excellent restaurants for special evenings.
Manor Farm is an excellent start point for exploring Cornwall - it's superb coastline and coastal villages, its long mining history and more rugged interior, and the many beautiful gardens and historic homes.
We had a lovely time with Monica. Comfortable bedroom and delicious breakfast and a wonderful place to celebrate our special wedding anniversary, we even had a message outside in the garden! We will be back
The house is beautiful, and although Monica could not be there during our stay, Geoffrey was extremely nice and helpful. I will also add that we had the best English breakfast of our life!
The only downside is the location of the house, which is a bit far from basically everything. However, this is not really a problem if you are arriving by car, and on the positive side the area is really tranquil and peaceful.
My husband and I stayed with Monica for three nights with our 5 month old daughter. Monica was a welcoming host who took the time to hold our daughter while we ate our delicious home cooked breakfast, find toys for our daughter to play with and provide us with tips on family friendly outings for the day. I would highly recommend Monica's home to others.
Staying with Monica in her beautifully restored farmhouse was wonderful. She is the perfect host and the breakfasts were awesome.
This is a lovely place to stay in Cornwall ! Monica is a lovely host. This place is comfortable, warm and cosy atmosphere, very clean ! It was a pleasure to meet her ! We had funny and interesting conversations with the other guests at the breakfast table and with Monica !! Thank you for everything!
Having read the reviews of other guests who have stayed with Monica i can only echo what others have said. She is a very warm and welcoming host and will try and do whatever she can to make you feel at home. Nothing is too much trouble. The room i stayed in was light and airy with a very comfortable bed. Wonderful breakfasts as others have said.
Monica even invited me to go sailing with her which i thoroughly enjoyed.
If you are planning to be in the area then i wholeheartedly recommend you book and stay with Monica, you won't be disappointed.
Monica is a lovely host who takes real good care of her visitors, and of her place. This place, a wonderful house, is well arranged and very clean. Don't hesitate to go and taste Monica's breakfast ! Her loveliness and smiles are good starts for the day !
Our stay at Monica's was a magic experience. She is just lovely and the house is fantastic: comfortable, warm and cosy atmosphere, very clean. You can be in contact with the nature, as Monica has a fantastic orchard and friendly chickens and sheep, but it is also very well connected by road with the surrounding towns. We had a delicious breakfast, with all you can desire: fresh fruit, porridge and a supreme british breakfast with sausages, bacon, free range eggs etc! We are very happy we found this amazing place, thanks a lot Monica, I hope we can be back very soon!
Monica was a wonderful host. We arrived to a warm welcome, a tour of the whole house (which was lovely) and a cup of tea.
The house is set in a quiet, peaceful location, only 5-10mins drive from Liskeard. Our bedroom was large, airy and nicely presented - the bed itself was very comfortable.
Breakfast was amazing! Fresh fruit, cereals, fresh bread, and a delicious full English.
Manor Farm come highly recommended as a quiet place to get away from the busier areas and just relax.
Monica is a wonderful host. The breakfast alone is worth it. Moreover the house has a historic and cosy atmosphere, tastefully furnished, surrounded by a beautiful garden with sheep and chicken and an orchard. We had funny and interesting conversations with the other guests at the breakfast table and with Monica. We would love to see her again some day with more time to talk. Thank you for everything!
