Nice House with one bedroom, private bathroom, hot water shower, easy to access from and to San José, Heredia or any other area like the airport, Cartago.
Lots of natural places to enjoy. Inbio park is just 10 blocks away, nice walk from this location.
This is my mom's house, she lives there with my father, There's a fridge, gas range, microwave, basic stuff, if you feel like cooking you can do it. Run by a family Costarican, great to practice Spanish.
Good neighborhood, 400 m away from bus stops to Heredia and San Jose.
House made of concrete and wooden ceiling. Great if you're just passing by, couples, groups of 2 friends, small families.
It's important to mention that Rocio will be your host, she doesn't speak English but she is really good with travelers, I will be available on the phone 24/7 if you need help or for any questions and concerns, also for tour recommendations, restaurants, beaches, volcanoes and more.
There's a security case across from the place so it makes it a very secured area.
I will be happy to reply to your inquiries.
Rocío and Francisco made our stay very special! We enjoyed their Costa Rican hospitality and felt very much like home! Thank you so much for all the warmth and friendship!
This is a nice house in a safe location in Santo Domingo. I speak fluent Spanish and have other friends in the village, so I was able to find my way around and ask questions. Directions to the house need to be clearer. There are pros and cons to this location. It was very loud because of the wind and the room is on top of the garage. There is a wonderful dog named Orion who I walked around the nearby "poli-deportivp" track. Rocio left me some yummy bread. Overall it was convenient for me, but if you don't speak Spanish, make sure you know exactly where it is and expect a dog to greet you!
We absolutely love Rocio and her husband! This was a wonderful stay with a lovely costarican couple. They speak almost no english. And we relished the opportunity to exercise our (limited) Spanish skills. They were very pleasant and helpful and we had numerous conversations and many laughes together.
Rocio was very helpful with tour plans and suggestions. We were given keys and could come and go as needed and at our convenience without the need to coordinate with our hosts. We enjoyed numerous delicious Costarican meals together.
It was not easy to find the residence. When we first arrived in Santo domingo from the airport we drove around the streets asking directions and placing phone calls to the two phone numbers we had been given. There was no answer at either. No one could direct us to the residence by the landmarks we had been given. Finally after close to 2 hours of searching one of the phones was answered and we were pointed in the right direction. The house is near: "Polide Portivo de Santo Domingo" (that is the multiiple sports center of Santo domingo, it's a gymnasium and football field.). When we finally got that landmark name in Spanish we were directed there fairly readily.
The house is in a quiet neighborhood in Santo domingo, south east of Heredia. It is an older quaint 2 story house with living room and kitchen downstairs and 3 bedrooms up a narrow, steep, angled stair case. Our bedroom was small and simple. The double bed was a little short for me (i'm 6'2"). the matress an adequate 4" foam on bed slats.
The windows opened for cool night air, there is no A/C. The wireless internet worked well most of the time. There is no TV in the room. There is one downstairs.
We had a private bath (it is outside of the bedroom) with shower and hot water.
There are a number of pets in the house. Mostly the wonderful pet dog but also a duck and several chickens that roost in the laundry room.
Staying at the Mist House was a loving and rewarding experience. We love you Rocio and Francisco!
Mixed experience. It started pretty bad. We showed up at the location, didn't have an exact address, so we called the AirBNB supplied phone number, but it didn't work. So for the next 45 minutes we sat there in the rain with the taxi meter running while a bunch of friendly, helpful neighbours and neighbourhood guards called random phone numbers and somehow managed to find the host's son whose wife who came and let us in.
Normally that would be a fun adventure, save for standing in the rain, watching the taxi meter tick up, and stressing that I am going to have to get a random hotel on short notice.
Once we were inside, the internet worked well which is important to me.
The keys to the house didn't work though so we couldn't come or go without coordinating with our host. One day we wanted to go for a walk, but couldn't get out (the key to open the exterior gate wouldn't work, so we were stuck inside).
Rocio was nice/friendly and only spoke Spanish, so my rusty Spanish was definitely helped along a bit. She also fed us tasty foods.
Overall I wouldn't recommend it, but if you really need to improve your Spanish and you don't mind essentially not having keys to the place, this wouldn't be bad.
Note: the house is actually green, the photo isn't very recent.
