I had a good stay in Casa del Sol. Eric always gave me information for everything I needed to know.
The room is very basic but enought, but expect nothing fancy. There is a nice little patio. Wifi is working good, exept of power loss from time to time, but this is just normal in Antigua.
The house is located like 5 blocks from the main plaza. It's ok, not to far away but also not in the heart of the city.
The kitchen is quite dirty, especially the fridge. Also the bathroom. Ther is a maid coming 3 x a week, but it's just to less for the amount of people living there.
My overall experience is ok, but nothing more.
From day one it was a great atmosphere staying (website hidden) really went out of her way to make me feel comfortable and help in anyway possible.
Where do I begin? Coolest AirBnB place ever! Housing some of the most industrious & talented expats from all over the world -Casa del Sol is super chill, boho-(website hidden)(the house mother ;D took WONDERFUL care of us and showed us all around to the great places to go in Antigua. We loved it so much we plan to come back at the end of our Central/South America trek! THANK YOU AGAIN!!
Eric's place is perfect if you are visiting Antigua! I spent several months living in Casa Del Sol and highly recommend it - Everyone living there is really friendly and eager to point you in the right direction if your new in town - It's located about 4 blocks from central park so you can get anywhere in just a few minutes. Maids come 3 times a week so the place is typically very clean. If you want the added privacy of having your own room without paying a fortune then this is it!
Eric's place is a great place to stay in Antigua! Really well-located on a quiet, safe street. The rooms are also spacious, comfortable, and provide a good amount of privacy. Easy to get just about anywhere from here.
Eric's also very friendly and helpful if you're new to Antigua...he'll point you in some good directions if he's in town during your stay.
Would definitely stay at Casa Del Sol again in the future!
The location is ok, about 4 blocks from central park, but everywhere is close in Antigua. The house was full of long term renters who were working in Antigua, so there weren't any other travellers to meet and do activities with, but everyone who stayed there was friendly. Katie is very welcoming and cool to hang with.
I can only review room 8 as this is where I stayed (not in pictures). The room has a desk and bookshelf which is good. The bed is well past it's life, has huge sagging in it with dead springs. The sheets were ripped, and also there were bed bugs. I left early (remaining nights refunded) and notified Eric about the bugs, for which he was apologetic, and I imagine he has fumigated the place well by now.
To be perfectly honest, I moved to a hostel that was less than $12 a night and had a much better experience with regard to beds, location, and meeting fellow travellers.
Xavier was actually in room 1, but is correct in saying that the room needed attention. I stupidly let some friend-of-friend hippy stay there for a week and he had bed bugs. Room 1 has been fumigated and matters replaced. Xavier had a less than perfect experience, but I refund his $ and we parted on good terms. Thx for the honest review. Always striving to make the place better. Cheers

About the Host, Eric
Hi, my name is Eric Fry and I was born and raised in a small town in Alabama USA. I now live in Antigua, Guatemala. I work as an accountant for Ilegal Mezcal. Mezcal is like tequila.. but WAY better. A fine sipping beverage.
I also play a few gigs around town to pick up extra beer money and meet cool ppl. I play a mix of Country/Americana and bit of my own songs too.
I also have two motorcycles that like to ride and rent out for extra scratch.
Lastly, I help a friend manage his apartment.. which brings me to Airbnb!! Please let me know if you need a place to stay, or anything else for that matter. I am pretty rooted here in Antigua.
