Our block is special--in addition to being the home to two *movie stars,* it is home to many residents who have lived there for 20-40 years. Everyone is friendly and helpful. The excellent shops and restaurants of 5th Avenue, including a huge supermarket, are just steps away, and beautiful Prospect Park is a brief 10-minute walk. More on the neighborhood:
•5-minute walk to more shops and restaurants on 7th Avenue
•5-10 minute walk to Barclays Center -- huge sports events, concerts, etc.
•10-minute walk: Prospect Park, Brooklyn Public Library, Grand Army Plaza
•15-20 minute walk: Brooklyn Botanic Gardens, Prospect Park Zoo & Carousel, Brooklyn Museum
•Nearest playground is 2 blocks away; numerous other playgrounds 5-15 minutes away – throughout the neighborhood and in the park, and it's a short drive to the Brooklyn Children's Museum, a necessary resource for people traveling with kids!
We're a 20-minute subway ride from Manhattan, and a five minute walk to four very useful subway lines: the 2/3 or the B/Q. It's a 10-minute walk to the Atlantic Av/Barclay's station, where you'll find even more subway lines: 2, 3, 4, 5, B, D, N, Q, & R. All in all, this is a central, extremely convenient location for visitors to the city.
We had a cozy, fuss-free and pleasant stay at Laura's apartment, which was a reasonably-priced and perfect accommodation choice for our family of 3 with a 15-month-old toddler. They kindly provided a pack-n-play so our little girl could sleep in the master bedroom with us, and the changing table, booster seat at the kitchen table, as well as their decent-sized tub for the kid to take warm baths during cold winter days were a bonus. Laura left us a very thorough list of instructions about the apartment and was also kind enough to include kid-friendly neighborhood recommendations she thought we might enjoy. Location wise, it's a very quiet street with friendly neighbors, great cafes and charming shops all just round the corner. Very walkable to the nearest subway, shopping malls and Prospect Park. If you're looking to feel like a Brooklynite for the duration of your stay, you've come to the right place!
I booked Laura's place for my parents and brother, who were in town for my wedding. It was exactly as described, and Laura was incredibly gracious and attentive throughout the stay. I happily recommend her apartment for anyone looking to stay in Park Slope.
