About this listing
Our cottage has a unique 'kiwi' style with timber lining and full insulation, and was moved onto it's estuary- side site in 2005, then fully renovated.
It's proximity to Whitianga's centre and surrounds makes it a most convenient stopover.
Our Kiwi Cottage overlooks Whitianga Marina in the quietest corner of town, yet within metres of cafes, local pubs, restaurants and shops.
From your comfy double bedroom with private bathroom, stroll to beautiful beaches and coastal/bush walks, world class hot springs and spa, movie theatre and more - or catch the ferry across the estuary and hire a scooter to visit famous Hot Water Beach and Cathedral Cove.
Our cottage is clean and comfortable and you are welcome to make yourself at home while you are here. Wifi internet is available for your convenience and there is a lovely deck which is the perfect place to sit and relax after a long day of activities.
Whitianga is an unspoilt playground of paradise where you can experience just about anything. From swimming to diving, to bone carving there is pretty much something for everyone.
In short, your stay can be as relaxed or active as you wish in this special part of our country.

Where to begin! The most lovely and genuine couple we have come across on our travels! Nothing was too much to ask for Ruth and Rick who truly made our time in Whitianga memorable! Both so interesting and easy to talk to, we shared many breakfasts and dinners together :) Do go to the Lost Spring (late arvo is best) and make the 20 min drive up to eat at Luke's Kitchen! Try the mussels! We loved it :)
Staying with Ruth was great. The space was in a perfect location, close to town and the beach. They shared suggestion about what to do and see around town. I enjoyed spending time here and would recommend it to friends and family.
Ruth's Kiwi Cottage was very special. Ruth was unfortunately unable to be at her home during our stay but left us with everything we could possibly need. We felt very comfortable in Ruth's beautiful home, in a stunning location right opposite the Marina.
I would highly recommend the Kiwi Cottage and hope the next time we are on the Coromandel Coast that we get the opportunity to stay again and meet Ruth in person.. Wonderful !
We loved our stay with the lovely Ruth and Rick and would highly recommend them for accommodation in Whitianga. They made us feel so welcome and at ease and provided fantastic local site seeing tips. The room and private bathroom were very clean and very comfortable and the cottage was right on the water and just minutes walk from restaurants and cafes. I couldn't recommend a stay with this lovely couple more highly.
Ruth has a gorgeous apartment with amazing location on the waterfront. We were very lucky she could accommodate us last minute on our road trip. Highly recommended.
We really enjoyed our 3 night stay with Ruth and Rick. They were lovely, welcoming hosts. The cottage location is indeed right near the marina, good walks along the shore (walking beach, not sandy) and quick walks to great restaurants and fantastic coffee. Their suggestions were spot on. We slept well and ate happily sitting at their brekky bar in the mornings.
We took a day and drove The 309 to Coromandel Town and another day did the suggested kayak tour to Cathedral Cove. Perfection!
It was great to kick back and play cards on the deck and later share travel stories over some of Ruth's apple cake and the Feijoa liqueur we brought back from our adventures. It felt exactly like hanging out at a friends home. Thank you!
very nice place to stay. Rick and Ruth are great hosts and took care for everything we needed. Thanks for that!
About the Host, Ruth
Hi from Rick (Kiwi) and Ruth (ex Aussie).
We think we're very lucky to live in Whitianga on the beautiful Coromandel Peninsula where we have no shortage of visitors from within NZ and from all over the world.
We've both travelled quite a lot, enjoy meeting fellow wanderers and making them feel at home here, and we can be persuaded to share the odd bottle of wine - or two - as stories as well, are shared.
But when we're away visiting relatives during our winter, we like the cottage to be lived in and enjoyed - and that also helps pay the rates!
So if you're looking for somewhere convenient and cosy to stay with a beautiful region to explore from your doorstep, or you have a job to do or a book to write, our cottage might be right for you.
We're open to discussion regarding the rate and dates, so if you're interested or have any queries at all about a longer term stay, please get in touch through the airbnb website.
