  • Ruth and Rick were fantastic hosts and we really enjoyed staying with them. Their home is very comfortable and ideally located close to many amenities but also really quiet. Both Ruth and Rick have travelled extensively and we enjoyed talking with them over a glass of wine watching the sunset over the marina. Our only regret is that we couldn't stay longer on this occasion but we hope to return.

  • What a great location! We really enjoyed our 3 night stay here with Ruth and Rick. They are very easy to get along with, helpful and knowledgeable about the local area. The place was lovely and clean and very homely. It was a pleasure to stay there and fantastic value for money. It was our first experience of Airbnb and we weren't disappointed - I certainly would recommend their place. We felt very welcome.

  • Ruth and Rick welcomed me for a three-night stay at their home, Kiwi Cottage. Both Ruth and Rick are a complete pleasure to spend time with and generous to share their home and knowledge of the area. Breakfast was delicious, the bed was very comfortable. They are located close to shops and restaurants, yet on a quiet street with lovely views. Nearby is the passenger ferry which provides easy access to Cook's Beach and Shakespeare Lookout. This was one of my favorite bed and breakfast experiences and I hope to return more than once.

  • Absolutely marvelous - we fealt like we were living in a yacht marina (which is a stones throw across the park) within a short walking distance of a number of fabulous restaurants and cafe's. The location is second to none and the hosts deserve every accolade when it comes to generous hospitality. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay with Ruth and Rick; we would recommend this air bnb to any traveller desiring great accommodation in a relaxed and friendly environment. Thanks for a great stay.

  • We stayed with Ruth and Rick for 2 nights and enjoyed every minute of our stay. They were both wonderful hosts and really helped to make our stay very memorable. We were told about sea-kayaking from Hahei to Cathedral Cove and although, initially a bit dubious owing to the fact that one of us isn't a fantastic swimmer, we had the best time and it was a truly great experience.

The town itself is very pretty and Kiwi Cottage looks out onto the marina and is close to all amenities.

All in all, a fabulous place and we would love to go back sometime in the future.

  • Ruth and her husband are very friendly people. They made us feel welcome. Their home is nice and clean and is in a beautiful location on the harbor. Ruth made us a good breakfast and even offert us wine and cheese. We had a absolut fantastic stay in their house.

  • Initially we were surprised to find that for Ruth & Rick, their Kiwi Cottage is a B & B, whereas we had expected to have the property to ourselves as we had experienced in Europe. Obviously I didn't register that info when booking, but having said that, we had a really lovely time staying with them, enjoying them & their charming house, & the location is superb. Ruth & Rick are interesting, warm & intelligent, respectful of people's needs, as well as helpful with information on what to do, where to go, the best coffee & bakery. They suggested we visit 'The Lost Spring' & it was just wonderful! Whitianga is a great town with a very interesting history, but at the same time, it's modern & 'light' ...& set in a fantastic environment. Kiwi Cottage is the sort of house that Trish & I would love to have; Ruth has done a fantastic remodelling / refurbishing job! We left feeling refreshed & warm inside, feeling as though we'd just spent the weekend with good friends.

The breakfast was gourmet and the room and bathroom were clean and beautifully designed. Ruth got back to us right away and was very considerate of our time. Thanks for everything!

  • I reallly enjoyed my stay with Ruth and Rick. They are wonderfull hosts! Very helpfull on everything, they picked me up at the busstation which was very nice and when my excursion boat didn't go out for Cathedral Cove, Ruth directly offered me a trip so I could still see it! I enjoyed spending time with them talking. It exceeded my expectation! I would defenitly recommend their house close to the waterfront!

Hi from Rick (Kiwi) and Ruth (ex Aussie). We think we're very lucky to live in Whitianga on the beautiful Coromandel Peninsula where we have no shortage of visitors from within NZ and from all over the world. We've both travelled quite a lot, enjoy meeting fellow wanderers and making them feel at home here, and we can be persuaded to share the odd bottle of wine - or two - as stories as well, are shared. But when we're away visiting relatives during our winter, we like the cottage to be lived in and enjoyed - and that also helps pay the rates! So if you're looking for somewhere convenient and cosy to stay with a beautiful region to explore from your doorstep, or you have a job to do or a book to write, our cottage might be right for you. We're open to discussion regarding the rate and dates, so if you're interested or have any queries at all about a longer term stay, please get in touch through the airbnb website. Best wishes, R & R
