The space

Due to demand, we only respond to fully verified guests who provide a clear profile photo, full name, age, name of current employer and/or school, and descriptive purpose of visit. Thank you for your understanding.

Live in in the heart of Little Tokyo and the Arts District with other international travelers and visitors! Clean, convenient, and inexpensive. You won't find a better deal in LA.

Furnished dorm room available for minimum four days, long term stays encouraged. Rooms come with sink, closet, bed, sheets, pillow, mini-fridge, desk and chair.

LENGTH OF STAY - We generally accept reservations of 30 days maximum length. If you wish to reserve for a longer period you may discuss that with the apartment manager after you check in for your initial stay.

ROOM DESCRIPTION: Private rooms are for one individual, have locks on doors, and come with a sink. Kitchen, toilet, shower rooms are shared, and professionally cleaned each day. This is a dorm-style atmosphere with great long-term tenants, international travelers, and a friendly on-site manager. Please bring your own towel. This room is similar to the others I have listed, that's why I am just using the same photo. For views of the premises look at the other properties. Thank you for not requesting additional photos of the rooms.

PARKING: Free street parking is available nearby (but it goes quickly), otherwise it is $4.00/day at the meters or $4.00/day at the nearby lot. Metered spots are enforced from 6 am - 4 pm and they also cost $4.00 per day.

GETTING THERE: From LAX take the FlyAway bus ($7.00 one way) to Union Station, then take the Gold Line to the Little Tokyo stop. The building is two short blocks away.

WEEKEND ARRIVAL: Please keep in mind that if you are arriving on a Saturday or Sunday the manager may not be there in person to let you in, but there is a lockbox from which you retrieve your keys.

CHECKING IN: Check-in is at 3 pm, Check-out is at 12 noon. Once your reservation is accepted you will receive a phone number for the on-site manager, Alex (different from the one currently listed). Please contact him immediately to discuss check-in details. Please do not wait until the last minute to call. Thank you!

SECURITY DEPOSIT: Because most of our tenants are long-term guests, our security deposit is the equivalent of one month's rent. The deposit is held by Airbnb through your credit card and they will return it to you after your stay. We have had a couple hundred individual reservations with our building and have only had to make deductions for damages a couple of times. If you are a responsible guest, you should have no worries.

ADDITIONAL GUESTS: Additional guests are not allowed without prior notification and prior permission given by the host. Unless agreed to otherwise, any additional guests who stay past 10 pm will be charged an additional $10 per night. If an additional guest is brought without prior permission and paid for in advance, you may lose your security deposit or have your reservation cancelled. Thank you in advance for not bringing overnight guests without prior permission.

Guest access

Shared bathrooms are cleaned daily, as is the shared kitchen. Laundry facilities are on site. We have a communal, international atmosphere.

Interaction with guests

Alex is the on-site apartment manager and can answer all of your questions.

I have been staying at Sogo several times over the years and I feel at home when I come back. Sogo is the right place for the someone who relies on public transportation and wants to be close to everything (which is, well, impossible in L.A., but this is as close as it can get). The units are basic single -room occupancy style with a sink and a small closet. The place is professionally cleaned daily. The manager, Alex, is always available to help. The location is just perfect for those interested in the older part of town while able to use trains and buses to reach other locations. Public transportation is just across the street while the rail system is undergoing massive expansion as of today so expect to see some major construction for some time to come. The area is rapidly changing because of the regional transportation projects and this situation gives a fast evolving atmosphere to the neighborhood. Go shopping to the Marukai, Nijima or Little Tokio Galleria markets and basicallly you have everything at hand within 15 minute walking distance (this is Los Angeles, remember). A welcome news in my 2017 stay was the upgrade of the Sogo Wifi system so high speed internet is now reliable at all times.

The listing was pretty accurate. The neighborhood is not great, but wasn't terrible either. However, I booked one room, but the host asked me to move into another (which I agreed to), only to be moved into ANOTHER room (without even letting me know) when I checked in. I'm not sure if there would have been a big difference, but the room I was in had western exposure and black curtains, which combined with a heat wave and the room being on the second floor meant it was an oven. And it was directly across from a loud car wash. I'd recommend trying to get a different room, because it almost certainly has to be better. Also, bring mosquito repellent, because there are no screens and you have to keep the window open. I got eaten alive by the bugs. The building was kept pretty clean though, and everyone mostly kept to themselves.

To be warned: There is about 30 to 40 rooms in the building. Other then that not being fully expressed in the advertisement, everything was clean and suitable.

Both Jefferson (via phone) and Alex were very helpful when I forgot to check in a week earlier. I choose this place since it was close to my office downtown and stumbled upon a pleasant surprise between a few blocks from Little Tokyo and the arts district. Huge bonus being so close to the Angel City Brewery down Hewitt. The pictures are pretty spot on. Definitely bring and extra pillow and blanket. But if you forget it, the Burlington downtown is decently priced.
