The Space

This beautiful, casual, historic house is the oldest and best example of the Craftsman style of architecture found in the village of Seaside on the Monterey Peninsula. Built in 1910 by the Phelps family and located on a half-acre property, surrounded by organic gardens with private, gated parking, this property has views of Monterey Bay. Seaside is considered to be the sunniest place on the Bay.

AVAILABLE : Small, bright yet cozy room with shared bath in private home, single bed with organic sheets, (although this is a very small room it is one of our most popular). It has a 15 square foot closet, hardwood floors with natural fibre area rug, desk, wireless internet, bath robe. Continental breakfast featuring an organic and/or natural selection . Access to washer/dryer/iron.
Rooms are cleaned with environmentally friendly products.

We also have 3 other rooms listed at this location.....

Minutes from all the great tourist attractions, Fairgrounds, Race Track, Beaches museums, restaurants, cafes, grocery and drug stores.

Come and enjoy all that Monterey Bay has to offer from Santa Cruz to Big Sur:
The Monterey Bay Aquarium, historic Cannery Row, whale watching, wine tasting in Carmel Valley, fishing, cycling or a stroll along one of the many beaches. We are located less than a mile from Del Monte Beach where you can enjoy the sights and sounds of the sea lions, otters and various ocean birds of this protected marine sanctuary. We are also minutes from the Laguna Seca Race Track, the Monterey Fairgrounds (Jazz festival, Blues Festival!) and of course, if golf is your pleasure, Monterey Bay is the place to come!
Public transport nearby.

Jocelyne, Jesse and Annemarie Muson are your hosts. They are easy going, casual, fun people (at least we think so!).
Our mission statement is to provide comfort, ease and a graceful, casual hospitality.

*Note, this is a private home, no smoking, 18 yrs of age and older please. We do have a cat and 2 small hypoallergenic dogs.

We look forward to having you stay with us!

  • This is where our family always stays when we come to visit our grandson in the area, and it's always so much better than some old hotel room. I fell in love with parfaits for breakfast on this trip; the granola is amazing. I was even taken care of when my reservation was in error (my son was a little spacey that day). I would love to come back any time!

  • A lovely B&B in a very convenient location - about 10 minutes to downtown Monterey, 25 minutes to Point Lobos. I came for the weekend to go SCUBA diving, and the place was perfect. A garage door opener is provided so that I could leave early in the morning without disturbing anyone. I wasn't able to meet Annemarie but Jocelyn was very welcoming. Room was small and cozy but plenty of space (huge closet!!) for a short weekend. A beautiful home.

  • i came to california on a business trip and had a very short stay at this place. the house is super cute, located in a quiet neighborhood, with a beautiful garden, secured parking and elegant interior decorations. the place is very clean and neat, and it's run more like a real B&B with complementary healthy breakfast. :) I only met one of the hosts Jocelyne, who is super nice and friendly! the conversations were enjoyable. and she also gave me suggestions on the running routes and whereabouts. very helpful. i highly recommend this gem. and i'll definitely come back to stay with them again, when i travel here next time, with a longer stay to enjoy the beautiful place more. :)

  • Wonderful place to stay. Peaceful, quiet, comfortable, perfectly clean, and in a great location. The house itself is charming, and all of the details are in place to make guests feel at home. I loved the quiet and calm of the garden and interior, and my cozy little room was more than accommodating. Highly recommended; I'd stay again.

Response from Annemarie, Jesse And Jocelyne:

So sorry Ellen you didn't find the towels! You were with us for such a short time that you probably didn't have tie to look in the closet. Everything is in it.... towels, face clothes, hand towels, hair dryer, extra blanket and pillow.... We hope you weren't too cold or uncomfortable in the room? Were you able to catch the beginning of the race to hawaii? Thanks for staying with us!

  • I come to the Monterey area often to do some commissioning work at the Naval Postgraduate School and the Historic Landmark House is my preferred place to stay. If any of their 4 rooms are available, I'll take one rather than stay elsewhere.

Room #3 is their smallest one, so it is the best bargain because you still get the great house, breakfast, and hosts. Cozy means small. It has a desk and chair but Annemarie suggested that I could do my desk work on the big table used for breakfast. I gratefully accepted.
