Enjoy the buzz of the city from a convenient, peaceful base!
My house is located exactly 10 minutes from Stephen’s Green/Grafton Street (the heart of the city) thanks to the Luas [tram] which stops right at the end of the driveway! We are on the green Luas line at the Milltown stop.
The house is clean, comfortable and modern, and the rooms are bright and spacious and overlook the garden. One room has a double bed (for 1 or 2 people) and the other has a single bed. The newly-renovated bathroom is for guests' sole use [I have my own]- it has an instantly hot shower, and towels and a hairdryer are provided for your convenience. Downstairs, there is a big sitting room, kitchen and a lovely comfortable sunroom looking out on to the garden. There is free, fast Wifi in the house which you are welcome to use. The house is in a quiet, safe and secure gated development with plenty of free parking. A light breakfast of delicious Irish food is provided to start your day off on a good foot!
My house is located in a lovely, peaceful and exclusive neighbourhood called Dartry. There is a fantastic pub/restaurant around the corner called The Dropping Well- this is a real Irish "local" and some people argue it has the best Guinness in Dublin! The city centre is within very easy reach (exactly 10 mins by Luas [tram]), and there are lots of great pubs, restaurants and shops within a short walk or tram ride of the house. Ranelagh village is only a few minutes away and has a fantastic pub and restaurant scene. Dundrum Town Centre is a few minutes the other direction and has a huge shopping centre and lots of great restaurants. My house is also very convenient for getting to places such as UCD, Trinity College, the RDS, Aviva Stadium, the Convention Centre etc.
I am very happy to help with suggestions for your visit. I love meeting people and helping them to have a more authentic experience of my city! Dublin is a great place to live, having all the benefits of a big city while retaining its local charm and friendliness. I am delighted to share a local's perspective on where to go and what to do.
I look forward to hearing from you and welcoming you to my home!
GETTING FROM THE AIRPORT
It is really easy to get to my house from the airport. Just take the Aircoach (a regular and comfortable private bus, €12 return, 30 mins) to the City Centre- Grafton Street stop. Walk up Grafton Street to the Luas [tram], and in exactly 10 minutes you will arrive at the Luas stop beside my house!
You can also take a taxi from the airport, which should cost about €30-35 (30 mins). If you are hiring a car, I am happy to provide driving directions.
Melanie was an excellent host! The house it gorgeous and within 10 minutes of the city center, which was really practical! I felt really welcomed and the room was chic and cozy. I thoroughly recommend it!
TWO GREAT THINGS - LOCATION AND MELANIE HERSELF.
this property is literally 10 mins by Luas tram from St Stephens Green which itself is in the heart of the shops etc. Easy to use ticket machines on each platform and ease on/off access. Then a 3 minute walk along a leafy road to a neat spotlessly clean townhouse.
Bedroom comfortable and private bathroom had excellent shower with basic products and towels available.
Sun room very pleasant to sit in and open plan to diningroom kitchen, where we had a good breakfast (no cereals).
Melanie is a charming friendly lady who makes you feel totally welcome and willing to spend time giving advice.
The Droppin Well is a good pub and only 5 mins away. Food was good and average price for Dublin I think. However at over 5 euros for a pint and 5.50 euros for a (not large) glass wine I thought it very expensive but this may be the average price for Dublin - and they have no competition as there is nothing else in the immediate area.
Visited the Chester Beatty library on a wet day and there were many interesting (for adults) manuscripts etc. Between each floor (lift) was a very comfortable seating area with colouring pens and paper.
The Silk Road restaurant was quite good but again, a small bottle of average wine was 5.50. I had chicken which, although tasty, was overcooked. The desserts looked delicious, however.
Grafton Street(where the Luas stops) is a good pedestrianized shopping area with a shopping mall at one end. The whole area is full of cafes pubs and restaurants and not far to walk between each. Many of the main landmarks are within easy walking distance.
We wanted to have river cruise but this was not in operation (early February) although the Hop On Hop Off buses appeared to be functioning, and these could be caught easily at St Stephens Green beside the Luas line.
Almost beside the Luas stop we visited a kiosk on an island in the middle of the crossing to Grafton Street, where Fran (cheerful guy with lovely Dublin accent) gave us clear directions. This saved us trying to find the Tourist Information office.
The Airport bus, also, stops at several places within this area and is not expensive. In Dawson Street (very close to St Stephens Green) my friend was able to board this bus and,a couple of minutes further on, I was able to get a 14 or 15 bus to Conolly Train Station (where you can get a train to the North of Ireland (belfast)).
In the North you can visit The Titanic Experience and The Giants Causeway along with many other interesting places.
Recommendations: take a bottle with you....very expensive here!
This was my second stay at Melanie's - and just as enjoyable (see previous review). This time I didn't have a car and so getting there was much easier (by the Luas - tram)! I was struck, getting off the tram, which is very near the property, just how quiet and peaceful the area is, even though it is a built-up area. I intend to book again.
Really great location. Opposite the Luas station, in a safe, quiet residential area, near the city centre. Great hospitality and breakfast.
Melanie has a beautiful and comfortable house in a very pleasant area of Dublin. The house is clean, quiet, bright and very roomy. It is superbly located near a tram stop (the Luas, Milltown) hence very convenient for getting into and from the centre. The house is located in a gated community which was a big plus for leaving my car parked safely. Melanie is a friendly and helpful hostess and making her acquaintance made the stay all the more enjoyable. She provides generous and delicious breakfast items and you will feel instantly at home in her house. An excellent choice for staying in Dublin.
Great host, lovely house
Melanie has this hosting thing figured out. She has a whole notebook full of everything from instructions on how to work the shower to recommendations for the best pubs--everything you could need. She's friendly and helpful--even asked if I needed anything when she made a run to the grocery store. And the Irish foods she left out for breakfast were a great touch.
The tram into the city center is really convenient. Just a 10-minute ride, and just a few Euro round-trip. The room and the house are spacious and light, and you have a great bathroom with great water pressure all to yourself.
Melanie was terrific. I have only used airbnb once before so was a bit dubious. Her place was ideally located: both quiet and easily accessible to the downtown of Dublin. Melanie was gracious and responsive, easy about an early arrival, and friendly while giving me plenty of space. I had the run of the house. She made me feel at home and had plenty of good local information. It was perfect for me. Highly recommended. I would go back in a heartbeat if I were in Ireland again!
Melanie is a very thoughtful host, and her house is delightful. It is in a very quiet, gated, community, extremely convenient for access to the city centre via the Luas (tram). If you're dumb enough (like me!) to try to get around Dublin by car, there is also plenty of secure parking by the house. The house is spacious (you needn't feel on top of each other) and comfortable. It was spotlessly clean.
There is a particularly good pub/restaurant within a 5 minute walk, with a good value dinner menu.
We stayed with Melanie for two nights when visiting Dublin. Since we only had 1 and a half day to explore Dublin we were really grateful for Melanies tips for pubs which aren't the typical tourist traps. The location was perfect too. It was close to the city and the luas was right in front of the gate. However it was quiet other than a hotel in the city might have been. Altogether it was a very relaxed and enjoyable stay and when we get the chance to visit Dublin again we would love to stay at Melanies again.
