Interaction with Guests
We'll not be present at the site during our guests' stay. A neighbour is our caretaker who receive guests, show them around the house upon arrival and inspect it upon departure, receive and return the security deposit, answer questions, fix any problems and change the gas bottle when empty.
We, and most guests, love the beautiful landscape with rolling green hills and lovely small biking roads and hiking trails, nearby Lac Léran for swimming, canoing or sailing; the charming historic nearby towns of Mirepoix and Limoux and a bit further Cité de Carcassonne and Rennes-le Chateau, the Cathar history, the quietness of our village, having supper on our terrace watching the sun set on the hills etc.
No public transit; guests need a vehicle to get around, for shopping etc.
We expect guests to be careful and consider that it is an old house. The house should be clean and left in the same condition as it was upon arrival.
Pets and indoor smoking not allowed due to allergies.
The house was perfect, very big and with a superb garden. We really enjoyed our stay and did a lot of cooking, since the kitchen is equipped with everything you may need. The environment is great if you want to rest and do some walking. The only minor detail was that the towels and bed linen were very old and thus a little bit rough. Other than that, highly recommendable.
We had a lovely time in Peyrefitte-du-Razès. The village is charming, the house is comfortable and spacious, and Dag's managers are relaxed, friendly, and available, but also respectful of one's privacy. The neighbors were friendly, and one even brought us lettuce from his garden! I must admit that as we drove further and further into the countryside seeking the property, I worried that we were going to be truly isolated, and realizing the size (or lack thereof) of the tiny village in which it was located didn't help any. And honestly, you may not be comfortable if what you seek is impeccably elegant, urban chic. But what we found was an old rustic country house (along with some of the challenges that go with adjusting old architecture to modern living) in which we felt very much at home, with a patio that we used everyday for outdoor meals, situated on a large lot where my grown daughters could relax, or play frisbee or improvised badminton, or otherwise act like kids. While there are no commercial establishments in the village, you only have to drive maybe 15 minutes to get your groceries. And there is plenty to do and see within comfortable driving distance--markets and restaurants in Mirepoix and Camon, castles to visit, caves to explore, and beautiful countryside to enjoy everywhere. The really nice part is that after playing tourist, you return to the quiet of rural living--no cars, noise, etc. other than the birds that you awake to in the morning. Perfect? No, but it was worth it to us.
