  • Gabriel was awesome. He helped us out with a last minute reservation and it ended up being amazing.

We stayed in his family farm in Masaya. It was Eco friendly and still very comfortable. We picked fruits in the morning, hung out in the hammock and walked around the property. It was easy to get out and about in the Afternoons thanks to the driver, Alex, that Gabriel put us in contact with. Alex was also fantastic. Very sweet, honest, dependable and helpful. He picked us up at the airport and took care of most of our transport around Granada and Masaya for the two days we were there.

This place was an unexpected gem on our trip through Nicaragua and I would recommend it to anyone. I really loved staying there.

    Response from Rafael:

Thank you so much for your kind comments. It was my pleasure to help and am very pleased that you enjoyed your time in Masaya. I will pass your regards to Alex, he will be pleased.
    All the best, Rafael.

  • This is our second time at the farm, after staying at the big house for a few days, my husband and I came back for a quick shopping trip and decided to rent the small cottage. The Cottage is great for the money, very comfortable, clean and very nicely decorated. The early morning breeze that blows onto the terrace while relaxing on the hammock, while enjoying a fresh cup of coffee is priceless. If you are into nature, birds, horses, animals and like the convenience of being close to the city and great shopping venues such as Granada and Masaya, then this is the place for you. Pack your repellent, consume clean energy and bring a sense of adventure.

  • !Todo pura vida!

We stayed at Rafael’s ecofriendly and solar powered home for the convenience of the location to attend a wedding that was being hosted just down the street. The location is convenient and great if you want to travel about or just want to chill. The price is a steal if you are into getting the best for your money, without giving up on safety, cleanliness, space and comfort.
If you come by car or rent a car you are close to Masaya, Managua, Granada and little off the grid places. This home is ecofriendly and the energy oozing from the décor balances you out and decompresses any accumulated stress. I am not into yoga and wish I was to take advantages of the spaces; I am not into meditating and wished I was to take advantage of the simple scenery and peacefulness of the place. In general if you like nature and are Eco minded this is the place to be.
Rafael a longtime friend was accommodating and helped me organize an intimate surprised party/family reunion that was picture perfect. Our guests whom are normally accustomed to high luxury were blown away by the tasteful decoration and ample home spaces; they were captivated by the simplicity of a beautiful sunset, the humor of good company and good food that was catered by Rafael’s professional and friendly staff.

    Response from Rafael:

Gloria, it was great seeing you and spending time with you and your family after so many years. You are always welcomed to come back and thank you for appreciating my house.

  • First, the house is more beautiful than the pictures could ever express. A real charm. We loved watching the sunrise on the hammock on one side of the house and watching it set with his dog Cookie on the other side.
As two city girls, we had to adjust to the cold showers, connecting gas manually to the stove, welcoming the interior spider population, and conserving the limited solar energy available each day.
But, whenever we had a question, Rafael made himself readily available via telephone and took us out to dinner in Masaya our 2nd night. He was welcoming, friendly, and knowledgeable about the history of Nicaragua
His mother was only a few feet away and extremely sweet. She even brought over some beans she had already cooked when she saw that we were attempting to soak our own. The caretaker was also very helpful, though we didn't need too much from him because so much had already been taken care of. Between the two of them, we felt safe and supported.
Rafael also provided us with a reliable contact for taxi travel. His friend Alex picked us up everyday, drove us to our destination, spoke with us about Nicaragua, was very friendly, largely punctual, and professional.
We would recommend this location for anyone willing to negotiate certain relative luxuries for a beautiful, peaceful location with exquisite natural beauty that is quite close to many of Nicaragua's national gems.

    Response from Rafael:

You are so sweet, hope we can stay in touch. By the way, Alex your taxi driver told me to send his regards, that he truly enjoyed your company and just as myself, he said you are the prefect guests.

  • We stayesd for 2 nights at Rafael's farm. We had a wonderful stay and enjoyed our time there. The house was clean, neat and very tastefully done up. It took some time for us to get used to the cold shower, but it felt good after the warm days in masaya. Rafael was a wonderful host and gave some great tips on planning sight seeing around masaya. He was easy to reach and very attentive. Overall a great experience. If we were to come back to masaya, we will definitely stay here again.

    Response from Rafael:

Thank you for staying in my home and for such lovely comments. I truly enjoyed having you, you are wonderful guests and are welcomed to come back any time. If there is anything you need while in Nicaragua, please don't hesitate to call me.

  • Rafael was wonderful! He welcomed us and take us around town. Shown us around the the city and we had a great time.
The house was a little far from from town. Best to stop by Masaya and bring stuff home to snack on. No hot water which is ok, but for anybody who's use to that, it can be a little problem. The weather was pretty hot, but warm water would be nice.
The electricity stopped running around 10:30, because of the solar power. Didn't know about this and it freaked us out. We were asleep around 9:30 so it didn't bother us that much until when we had to use the restroom in the middle of the night.
Overall, the house was beautiful!!! We love the view overlook the volcano. Enjoyed Cookie, the dog. She's very sweet. Just know to be prepared that there are no close convenient stores around. Do it beforehand..:) other than that, we had a great time!!!!

  • The place was a little difficult to find because Nicaragua has no address only direction and no street name most of the time but we found it and Rafael was waiting for us outside . If not for him being outside we would have never found it . The room is big but not much in it and very dark. Overall we were a little disappointed . Rafael and his friend were very nice

    Response from Rafael:

If you follow the directions is very easy to find. Also if you take a taxi they know the way. The apartment has everything you need as you see in the pictures and lots of windows and a glass sliding door with curtains, its just a matter of opening moving the curtains. See the pictures.

  • This is a beautiful home filled with art and antiques but there were a few problems. There was no water in the shower or bath when we arrived, nor was there cooking gas or juice in the electrical (website hidden) the morning, the farm hand fixed the shower/bath (not warm though) and he went and got some gas (propane). The outlets never did work so we couldn't recharge our phones. Rafael did call to arrange a taxi for us and luckily we had the foresight to ask the same driver to pick us up in the morning. Otherwise, I'm not sure how we could have arranged a ride without a phone. The bed was large and comfortable. I thought it would be a more peaceful sleep, but the house is near a highway.
Also, we looked for fruit but found none.

    Response from Rafael:

I appreciate your comments, However to clarify your issues, let me explain how things work here in Nicaragua, Water in most towns comes every other day, so to ensure my guests have water I have a spare tank, So all you have to do is open it when there is no water. Hot water is not common in the pacific and since its a farm powered with solar energy. Propane gas for cooking is in a 25 lbs tank, so when it is finished if you tell the caretaker he can replace in a few minutes. The house is powered with solar energy, so to activate the outlets just turn on the switch on the inversor. Once I send a taxi for you, it is up to you ask him to come back for your next outing. If you are not sure then there are four other people in the property, with phones who will be more than happy to call a taxi or assist you in anything you need. The House sits on a hill and there is a 2 lane road in front of the property about 200 meters away, you will hear an occasional truck, but not much traffic. At this time of the year there is not much fruit in season in the farm, but I did leave a fruit basket with grapefruit and plantains which is the only fruit now, fruit is free when available and all fruit varies with seasons. Please keep in mind you are in a farm in Nicaragua.

  • I appreciated how welcoming Rafael and his family were to me, especially given all the other people also visiting them during the holidays. The house is decorated with care and Rafael's background in hospitality shines through. I agree with a previous suggestion about renting a car, or you can prearrange a taxi if you want to go into town for dinner . . . at night it is too dark to walk or bike (but all the better to see the stars).

Sitting in the hammock on a sunny afternoon. Looking out over the farm as the animals graze. A gentle breeze blows. Absolute contentment and tranquility.
