I met Rachel and she was a very sweet lady. Unfortunately there was a huge lack of communication. I tried to ask her if she could give me any ideas on how to get to Puerto Viejo from Montezuma and she said "I don't know." Luckily my host from Montezuma help me plan out my whole trip to Puerto Viejo. We made it there and we were the only people staying in the house. That was kind of cool. In the morning I got up to make coffee but I could not get the stove too late. I tried for at least 20 minutes burning my finger on the letter. I finally resorted to boiling water in the toaster oven. I heard a horn honk and that's when I met Rachel. At that time I was pretty upset about the stove. She said she forgot to tell me that the stove isn't working. She never informed us of any interesting things to see in the city. Not that she is obligated to do so but in my experience host normally tell us some tips about the city. At the end of our say I decided to do some laundry because it was available. Unfortunately she failed to tell us that the dryer doesn't work either and we had to leave with wet clothes. Although the house was pretty cool it is not a yoga and wellness center as advertised. There were no yoga classes or wellness classes of any kind nor were there any people of any kind the entire time that I was staying there. Except Danielle. Danielle was a delight and luckily on the last day that we were there she told us of a place to rent bikes and she told us to go to the right out of the street and we would find beautiful beaches. If it weren't for her we would have never seen those things. Thank you Danielle!
We had a great time at the hidden garden wellness center. The grounds and the house were beautiful. Were hoping for a bit more guidance as we had never been to puerto Viejo and figured they could provide some info. Never met rachel but Josef and Danielle who worked there were awesome. again just wished we had a little more information on transport, activities etc. but the place was tranquil and pretty.
El lugar me encanto. Me sentí rodeada de naturaleza. El despertar fue una gran experiencia.
There's nothing like waking up to howler monkeys!
Though we did not take advantage of the therapeutic services, we still thoroughly enjoyed the unique and relaxing stay at the wellness center.
We easily walked to/from town and nearby beaches every day (make sure you have a flashlight at night though; bicycles and taxis also available).
Sharing a bathroom with the room next to us wasn't an issue.
Rachel is sweet and has a wonderful place (be sure to ask about the story of Casa Redonda) :)
Hidden Garden was a nice retreat off the beaten path. Rachel has built a unique, rustic home, perfect for nature-lovers. The property is a short walk, bike ride or drive to the main shops and cafe's of Puerto Viejo, and Manzanillo. The side streets are pretty dark at night in Puerto Viejo, so pack a flashlight for the walk home. Definitely check out the nearby Pure Jungle Spa for and exceptional open-air massage. We weren't able to participate in a yoga class while we visited, but the yoga deck looks great, and the yoga teacher, Molly, is delightful and welcoming.
This is a very relaxing place just in the middle of the exuberant tropical forest of the costa rican Caribbean. This rustic house has the necessary to stay few days in a "simple-hearted" way. The house is not as closer to the beach as you can wish, and you will probably prefer to have 4x4 vehicle to take to road to the cabin, but you will receive instead beautiful awakenings surrounded by monkeys and birds. Even when I didn't meet Rachel (she was not in CR), the communication via internet was very fluent, she was very kind and did all the possible for us to have some great vacations days.
This place was great and so serene! Puerto Viejo is an amazing place and I would recommend the town and this spot to everyone! If you're wanting a place a little off the beaten path instead of in the thick of town, this is the place. We didn't have a chance to take advantage of the yoga and massages :( but it was great being in the jungle. It was a little hard to find, thank goodness I had a phone number to call once we got to town! I would definitely recommend renting a bike during your stay and have a headlamp/flashlight on hand if you plan to stay out after dark. Check out Tasty Waves for their amazing fish tacos and Cocles beach :)
