Now that the kids are grown my husband and I have a ton of extra room going to waste, and we'd love some company! Centrally located in Connecticut in a safe suburb of Newington, we're proud to share our spacious home surrounded by an acre and a half of well-maintained property. The house is set back four hundred feet from the street with tons of parking, is clean and well-kept, has plenty of space and privacy as well as open gathering places, and is occupied by a very friendly family of three (two during the academic year when my son is at school in Ithaca, NY).
Set alongside a cliff overlooking Piper Brook, spring, summer, and fall days are extremely pleasant amid the gardens and greenery, while in winter a hill for sledding tempts families to go outside. If you're just looking for a place to crash for the night, that's fine too!
There are three available rooms, as well as additional couch space allowing for a maximum of nine guests. The largest of the three rooms has an very comfortable queen size bed, is at the farthest end of the house offering the most privacy, and has a porch overlooking the backyard. The blue room has a futon, and the green room has two twin beds. All three have access to the same full bathroom, and there is a half-bathroom downstairs. See "Beautiful Property, Friendly Home" 2 and 3 for the other available rooms.
Amenities include wi-fi, washer and dryer, 30-foot above-ground pool (June-September), grand piano, hammock, multiple porches, chiminea, air hockey, foosball, and basic exercise equipment. Five minutes from CCSU, fifteen minutes from the University of St. Joseph, twenty minutes from the University of Hartford, and halfway between NYC and Boston.
This listing is for the largest and most secluded of the three rooms.
We really enjoyed our stay - Susan and Paul are wonderful hosts and their home is so comfortable. We could not have asked for any more and we thoroughly enjoyed our interaction with them. We had lovely weather and enjoyed having a bbq on the back deck. Being out in their garden was like being in a park. You could not ask for a better place to stay in this locality.
Susan is a friendly, helpful and unusually generous hostess. She invited us to share her entire home, which is very beautifully furnished and spacious. The property is gorgeous, with a front porch and multiple back decks overlooking a wide expanse of lawn. Her gardens were already blooming in mid-May. We cooked out on the deck and thoroughly enjoyed our weekend. Susan also provided coffee, homemade bread, and eggs and english muffins for breakfast.
Also, this property is very convenient to West Hartford. We were attending a college graduation at U of Harford, and had a very easy time traveling back and forth.
I highly recommend a stay with Susan and Paul!
My classmates and I were travelling to Hartford for a conference and needed a place to stay for the weekend. We were scrambling up to the last minute to find a place so we were so lucky and fortunate to get Susan's place on a short notice (about a one-day notice!).
Susan's house is about a 10 minute drive to Hartford, which was a great convenience and its really close to the highway.
When we arrived to the house, we were amazed at the size and beauty of the space. There was ample room for parking and when we walked in we definitely were not expected the place to be so big!
Susan was an excellent host, inviting us in as if we were great friends. She baked us cookies and made us tea, and made us feel like we were home. She even made us breakfast in the morning before our conference.
The home is tucked away in a quiet area, which is great if you need to get some rest or get away from the hectic city life. We had an awesome time staying here with Susan and would recommend it to everyone! I know we'll be back the next time we come to Hartford.
