I booked 5 nights at the Sans Souci IV in Hanoi but ended up only staying one. The room was in very poor shape.
There were mold/mildew stains on the ceiling of the bathroom and on the walls in the room. The sheets, pillow case and blanket were very stained and dirty. The shelf on the wall (seen in picture) was half hanging off. The bed was rock hard, which I have found the norm in Vietnam, but this was exceptional hard.
Other than the room conditions the location is great and the staff were friendly and accommodating. The staff were receptive to my complaints and offered another room. I looked at 2 others but one was in similar condition to mine and the other, the A/C didn't work. As a result, I decided to check out and find another hotel.
In fairness, Mr. Do was very apologetic and accommodating with a refund for the remaining 4 nights. He did offer an upgrade to another hotel but I declined and sought out my own accommodation which I am happy I did.
Mr. Do has said that they will renovate the room. I hope they do because it has potential to be a great spot to stay.
The hostel is situated at the backpackers' area so its rather lively. For those who are into nightlife it is a prime spot with many tourist gathering around. The room is maintained at a good condition and is cleaned up everyday they even help to neatly arrange our stuff lying around the room. Overall its good and we extended our stay.
We had a wonderful time and the services of the staff were impeccable. They organized everything we asked for and more, served a wonderful breakfast and offered their personal advice and experience on Hanoi and the surrounding areas. The rooms were clean, comfortable and spacious, everything you can ask for for a short stay in Hanoi.
I stayed at the EZ APT, in the heart of Hanoi. It was within walking distance of all of the major museums. The price was awesome, the location was safe, plenty of places to eat on the street. This was such a great location. It is not a touristy section, but is truly the heart of the city. You are halfway between Ho Chi Minh's mausoleum, and the Opera House. I cannot recommend enough this location. Mr. Do booked it for me, and he is the one listed on the site. It is a hotel, in essence. A/C was good, the morning news was clear. They do a great job of trying to help out. Well worth it.
I had an excellent stay with Do and the entire staff. Some of the warmest and kindest people I have ever met. My room was clean and ready and the Internet worked great. The hotel is also centrally located to everything you need on a quite and lovely street near the Cathedral which has become a hotbed of activity with lots of young people and backpackers hanging out eating and drinking outside. Could not recommend the hotel anymore
Nice place...there is even an elevator! Clean and good location. We can back to stay for a second night (cheaper than our first night booked on airBnb). Breakfast was standard but made on the spot. Good location...you can walk all around the old quarter.
