The space

Traditional British seaside holiday house, shabby and run down, but full of character, with spacious garden and stunning Atlantic views, in sought-after location. Self catering for 6-11; 2 baths; wi-fi. Golf, surf, cliff walks, sailing, waterskiing, fishing, gourmet Padstow.

The Camel Estuary on Cornwall's rugged and romantic Atlantic north coast is one of England’s most desirable, yet understated, up-market hideaways - for everyone, not just for the two princes, prime ministers (all regular visitors), etc.. Whether it is cliff-top hikes, fishing, surfing, sailing, visiting historic houses (Lanhydrock, etc), the Tate Gallery at St Ives, the Eden Project or just savouring the seafood and other tastes of Padstow (gourmet capital of the UK, made famous by TV chef Rick Stein) or Nathan Outlaw in Rock, King Arthur’s Castle (Knights of the Round Table legend) and lots more, there’s something here for you too. And there’s classic British links golf: within 10 minutes drive is St Enodoc, recently rated no 35 in the world outside the US. Indeed, the Atlantic coast is home to several other renowned links.

We had a lovely stay at this special seaside property. Communication was easy with the hosts, expectations are exceptionally clear in a comprehensive guest packet, the space itself is beautiful, and the value is great! All of our expectations were met and exceeded. Many thanks to…

Great location with outstanding views from sitting room window and close to coastal footpath. We felt warm and cosy during our 2 days of stormy weather. Good communication. William was concerned about the weather for us, which we felt was caring. A wonderful spot in Cornwall- saw…

As described and just what we were after. Fantastic location with stunning views. The house is a little tired as mentioned but clean, warm and with plenty of character. We were a group of 10 and parking was a little tight but otherwise it served us well.

Response from William:
Richard Thanks for your kind review and we are delighted you enjoyed your stay. As for the parking, there is room for plenty of cars on the grass in the garden and prospective guests should not be put off: we have parked 6 cars before without any problem. Please do come again, Richard. All best. William

Think twice before booking

Response from William:
I should explain that Justyna had trouble finding the house. We give detailed directions to the house in material supplied to guests after completing their reservation. If guests do not bother to read this, we can hardly be blamed!

Don't be tempted into taking previous reviews as honest, accurate reviews. We did, and we were bitterly disappointed on arrival. The entire place is in real need of a make-over. The out-dated online photographs do not give an accurate representation of what the place looks lik…

Response from William:
We find it difficult to accept or indeed understand this review: it insults the many guests who have independently and so kindly written the other almost overwhelmingly positive reviews. And it is also self-contradictory given that they think our offer is well priced. We go to considerable length the describe and illustrate our much-loved, run-down house as it is (the ad was updated as recently as last week!). And when we locked ourselves out, the other day, even the local police officer could not get in without having to force an entry. These guests, after reservation, evidently failed to read our comprehensive Guest Information Pack (the link to which we send all guests after reservation). This gives detailed directions to the house, its name, postcode and an aerial photo showing its position. They praise Mary, our caretaker, and yet it is she who also explains the location of the house, to back up our Guest Info Pack. When they phoned us, incredulously, they thought the name of the house was ‘Seaside House’, the first two words of our Airbnb ad headline. (No further comment!) Is it more that they are disgruntled at having chosen the wrong place for their holiday: their description of Polzeath as ‘quaint and quirky’ hints towards this? Hardly fair to blame us, in such circumstances. If you are thinking of coming to stay at an Airbnb property, please contact your host in advance, if there is any doubt: we are all here to help you, but there is nothing we can do if you either don’t contact us to report problems or don’t read what we all generally go to great lengths to write for our guests. Thanks for reading, and please reach your own conclusions about this review.
