This is a guest house on a 2 1/2 acre parcel in the country. WE are an 8 minute drive to Pismo, Shell, And Avila Beach, CA. A twenty minute drive to San Luis Obispo. The beautiful Avila Barn is a highlight to see and purchase baked goods, and fresh produce.
This is an upper level one bedroom, very private. Use of the pool, and jaquzzi, bikes, surfboards and Yoga classes.
There are not many reviews yet, because it is NEW, just built in winter of 2012. All new appliances, and beautiful new linens and furniture. TV DVD and cable, internet available.
The bedroom has a queen bed, and the living room has a queen sofa sleeper. A private deck to over look pool.
The neighborhood is quiet, on a dirt road, and just minutes from the historical Arroyo Grande, where you can find a grocery store, movies, Trader Joes, antique shops, restaurants.
Public Transit is the train which can be found just down in Grover Bch. Approx a ten minute drive. The San Luis Obispo Airport is just 20 minutes north of us.There are rental car companies, public transit such as "dial a ride" cabs, and the public bus as well.
We are unique, because we have a historical monument on the property. We live in an old schoolhouse built in 1891. This shares the 2 1/2 acre parcel with the guest house. Very quiet set in the country, although we are minutes from surf, paddle boarding, wineries, shopping, restaurants
We offer private Yoga Instruction, if you wish, I am a Yoga Works Certified teacher and have a private studio on the property. We love to share our mountain bikes for touring around the neighborhood, or for Mountain biking in the local trails around Avila, Pismo, or san Luis.
There are dozens of fabulous hikes in our area. Great for all ages, and levels.
I would be more than happy to cook for you as you are here. I cook with all organic vegies from a local farm in AG, fresh fishes, hormone free meats, and I LOVE to bake!! This is just an added request on your part...you can even choose your menu.
This is a private area, gorgeous for relaxing by the pool and reading a good book.
The wineries are as close as 2 miles away, and all around the area, Santa Ynez, Paso Robles, as well.
There is a water slides park up in Paso as well.
Our home has been featured in Central Coast magazine, as well as A full featured movie back in 2012.
This was in fact a running school with several children from the area, and closed back in 1935.
We have a fuji apple orchard, with 100 trees, several plum trees, orange trees, cherry trees, tomato plants and more.
If you are interested, please e mail or call me, I am happy to send more photos. I was un able to up load any more photos to the sight.......
Hope to meet you soon, and to share our lovely space with you.

The barn, and the grounds around it, are beautiful-perfect for a quiet getaway. It's also in a lovely peaceful part of the countryside, and Diane's activity log and its suggestions for hikes and restaurants was very useful for making the most of the area. Potential guests should note the WiFi signal is weak in the living area, the washer/dryer is in the main family house and only available by request and that there's an additional cleaning fee. Those staying on Monday evening/Tuesday morning should also be aware that yoga classes take place on the floor below the barn. It didn't bother us, but it does involve music and so might disturb light sleepers looking for a lie-in. Loved our welcome nibbles from Diane, and the congratulatory dessert waiting for us when we came home from dinner after she found out we were on our honeymoon.
Our stay at the private barn in Arroyo Grande was absolutely awesome! The one bedroom rental was as nice, if not nicer, than what the images online portrayed and it was comfortable and private. The property that it is located on is very peaceful, quiet, well taken care of and uniquely beautiful.
Diane was an awesome host who was a very attentive and welcoming.
We will definitely be back if ever in the area again!
My husband, dog, and I had a wonderful experience at the Puhek home. Their remodeled barn was homey and spacious will all the amenities you need. We loved that our dog could romp around with her other 3 dogs on their property. Despite the rain, we had a great time exploring the surrounding cities and appreciated the recommendations Diane made in her activities guide. =) Thanks for a relaxing weekend!
My boyfriend and I just spent a lovely weekend at Diane and Mikes' home. I can't say enough nice things. While we were out and about for most of the time, the time that we DID spend at their beautiful barn was definitely memorable. The home was extremely clean and had about everything you could ask for. When we had trouble with the DVD player, Mike immediately came over and assisted us. They allowed us access to all of their amenities - the pool, hot tub, etc.
I highly recommend this place to anyone looking to truly get away for the weekend. It is quiet and quaint - perfect for a romantic weekend.
Thank you again!
It was a pleasure to host guests like Katie & her boyfriend. They were friendly & excited to be here. I found them both extremely kind & happy about every little thing. They were listening to music, candles going & food cooking in the unit when they invited us in to greet us. I find so much pleasure in seeing people enjoying the unit like that! Thanks Katie for your sweet personality you showered all over the property……you & your boyfriend were awesome guests! You are welcome back anytime:)
A delightful 1 br apartment on an even more delightful piece of property. We only had a short stay, but thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The house is in the middle of an expanse of farmland and is a great place for a quiet getaway.
The hosts were also quite accommodating and responsive to our needs. Definitely a place we'd love to return to!
It was great to meet you & your wife. I was so sorry I didn't get the message in time to refer some fabulous restaurants in SLO to eat at. I am so glad you were able to get out and enjoy some of the amazing sights here on the Central Coast. The sweet energy you & your wife brought to our space was much appreciated. We are blessed & thankful for renters like you! Take good care,
Diane & Mike
Stayed at the barn while waiting for our new home to be complete. Since we were not on a vacation the listed ammendites were important to us. Wireless internet, washer & dryer in building, kitchen, free access to a gym & breakfast provided. Especailly wireless internet since most of my husbands work required him to be on the internet. We arrived after a long overnight drving trip from Oregon to Ca. Diane greeted us with her 3
very friendly dogs & said that she was going out for a few hours but call her if we needed anything. Upon entering the Barn Apt we first noticed a dirty front door mat covered with leaves & dirt that we would tracked into the living space. We unpacked, took a quick looked around at the kitchen & noticed how dirty it was. The microwave was dirty inside as was the fridge & cabinets & silverware. After paying a cleaning fee upfront I was not happy. The windows were dirty, & the bedding was old, stained & ripped. The microwave was minus the rotating glass plate so we took a dinner plate & tuned it upside down to heat frozen food. We took our dog for a brief walk around the property and noticed dog poop everywhere. Which remained there our entire stay. The next day I ask Diane about the internet since we could not get a signal in the Apt & she expalined that the router was in her house & we could come into her privite home to use it or sit outside near her home or sit in the corner of the bedroom for the best connection. After a week stay there I ask about the location of the washer & dryer, She said it was also located in her home & that I was free to use it. I told her we would find a laundromat. A few days later I asked her if I could leave a basket for dirty towels at her door for her to please wash for us & she replyed again that I could use the W & D.
She later said the cleaning lady would be in on sunday & for me to leave the basket of dirty towels at her door, Maria would take care of them. She left me a basket of clean towels & bed sheets at the door before leaving for the weekend. We booked this private Barn form the website AirBNB because the pictures were amazing, the listed amneties were everything we would find at our own home. But the amineties & pictures are NOT what they appear to be.Very miss leading. We were highly disappointed in our expensive stay. Not that we ever asked but Diane never mentioned a gym or provided us with breakfast. A few times we found home baked treats & fruit from her trees but those can not made up for the lack cleanliness & disappointment.
Our stay at Diane’s little "retreat" in the countryside was lovely. The barn is new and the apartment on the second floor is clean and nicely furnished.
Diane was very helpful and attentive through the whole process and responded to my emails quickly and efficiently. Diane accommodated our special requests without hesitation which my husband and I really appreciated.
This place is a true gem in the greater SLO area. I can recommend it for both, couples and families.
What a gorgeous home! My wife and daughter and I stayed at the Puhek's barn for a weekend getaway in November. It was absolutely perfect, and everything we could have hoped for. Most importantly, Diane and her family are perfect AirBnB hosts - they are friendly, helpful and accommodating, but they also give you your privacy and allow you to enjoy their stunning property as if it is your own. There is a positive energy to the place. My daughter loved the treehouse on their property, we enjoyed the jacuzzi under the dazzling clear starry night and my wife, a yoga instructor herself, loved the tranquil yoga studio space. The accommodations are exactly as pictured. The house is surrounded by farms and the wildlife of the Arroyo Grande hillside. One word to the wise - there was an additional $45 cleaning fee, which we were happy to pay, but it is not listed in the ad.
Thanks so much to the Puheks! We would recommend this place to anyone!
Diane was a great host and a we had a fabulous time! She welcomed us with hot, homemade breakfast twice and visited with us more than once during our stay. The loft is comfortable and clean and we felt very at home. We'd definitely come back!
Very nicely renovated, stylish and comfortable. I would recommend showing up the first time before sunset, the barn is hard to locate after dark, we got a little lost.
Diane made us delicious brownies and left us a bottle of wine.
The beaches, and San Luis Obispo are must visits, and are all within a short drive from the barn.
