About this listing

A very confortable apartment on the ground floor of the property. It has a fully outfitted kitchen for cooking great meals.
The new futon in the living room can be used as a bed and the bedroom has a queen and a single bed. Very cool on hot days.

The space

A spacious 1 bedroom apartment on the ground floor of our house.
La Casita has a roomy bathroom with shower, a fully outfitted kitchen with an island and stools for sitting and chatting, while you cook meals. A living room/dining area wit a fold out futon couch, a dining table for 4. The bedroom has a double bed and a single bed, a writing desk and an armoire to store your belongings during your stay.

Guest access

Our guests can enjoy wonderful sunsets from the terrace, where we often join them for a glass of wine and music. The nest (see photos of bamboo structure) is also a wonderful place to sit and read book and watch the entire town below. It has a 360 degree view.

Interaction with guests

We want our guests to enjoy their privacy while they stay at Casa las Palomas, but we find that since Joyce and I love to meet all the wonderful people that come to stay with us; we often gather at the terrace in the evenings , for the spectacular sunsets. We also love staying and and cooking simple but tasty meals from great local food and we often invite our guests to join us. Cooking is best when shared with friends, a glass of wine and good conversation.
Also, first time visitors to San Miguel join us in our daily walks to the centro and sometimes sit with us at the cafes, where we can talk about the many wonderful things to see and visit.

Other things to note

Some guests have asked us about the fountain in our courtyard. They ask about how much noise it makes. It is just a trickle.
It is set up on a timer and it shuts off at 10 pm.

This place is charming and comfortable in a friendly neighborhood about a 25 minute walk from the Jardine. We had a great stay!

You will love the bed, the flannel sheets for those cold nights, the quiet, the common areas to sit and watch the sunset, while chatting with your fellow inhabitants. If you want to cook, the kitchen is well equipped. Need to go to the center and don't want to walk, the bus stop is 5 min. away, there is always a taxi at night if you don't want to walk home. Problems, Riccardo will take care of them immediately. There is a heater in the unit, should you need to warm up. The plantings are beautiful as is the attention to detail. We stayed two weeks in the casita, then moved over to the house. Carol and David

The property is really well maintained and clean. The kitchen was fully stocked and we even had some food and breakfast waiting for us. We arrived late, but the housekeeper was there to let us in. The property is a little out of center but the taxis are plentiful and the Jardin is about a 20 minute walk. Wifi speed was good to slow depending on how many people were using the network. Was a little dark and mosquitos were in an issue but you can purchase vape repellant from the store.

Our flight was delayed and we arrived late, close to midnight. The housekeeper Alicia was waiting to greet us and show us around the casita. What a wonderful surprise to find the kitchen stocked with the essentials for breakfast! The kitchen was well equipped and we often ate at home in the casita. The shower had great water pressure and there were plenty of nice towels but the lighting was rather dim for shaving, etc. It was super having laundry facilities right there. We enjoyed the upstairs communal terrace and spent many late afternoons chatting with the other guests who quickly became friends. The location made getting around easy and there was grocery shopping in the immediate neighbourhood. The rough cobblestone street made for difficult walking for my husband who requires a cane but taxis were plentiful and inexpensive. San Miguel is a wonderful town and the cultural atmosphere was inspiring. Overall, we had a delightful time and are considering a return. Joyce and Ricardo have a lovely spot, perfect for snow birds.

We can wholeheartedly recommend a stay at Casa Las Palomas! Ricardo and Joyce were very responsive to all our needs although not themselves in San Miguel during our stay. Our arrival was quite late at night but Alicia, the housekeeper, was at the door to meet us with a warm welcome and provisions for our breakfast. The Casita itself (newly painted in aqua throughout) was a bit dark , being tucked in beneath the upper terraces, but the beautiful and spacious common areas joining all three dwellings provided unlimited opportunities for plein-air dining, reading, and socializing. Next year we will opt for the upper apartment with its ample natural light, high vaulted ceilings, and private covered terrace that serves as a cozy outdoor living room. The working class neighborhood is a mix of residences and little shops. Walking at night might make one feel a bit uncertain but we never encountered any problems. Day or night, sturdy walking shoes are a must!

Totally felt great and welcomed by Ricardo y Joyce. I booked a month at the casita. Took the time to write a screenplay. Exploring San Miguel was delicious. Fantastic city. The digs were amazing. Hummingbirds in the morning and whooshes of hot air balloons at dawn. I had a great time staying here. Chances are... I'll be back!
