A very confortable apartment on the ground floor of the property. It has a fully outfitted kitchen for cooking great meals.
The new futon in the living room can be used as a bed and the bedroom has a queen and a single bed. Very cool on hot days.
A spacious 1 bedroom apartment on the ground floor of our house.
La Casita has a roomy bathroom with shower, a fully outfitted kitchen with an island and stools for sitting and chatting, while you cook meals. A living room/dining area wit a fold out futon couch, a dining table for 4. The bedroom has a double bed and a single bed, a writing desk and an armoire to store your belongings during your stay.
Our guests can enjoy wonderful sunsets from the terrace, where we often join them for a glass of wine and music. The nest (see photos of bamboo structure) is also a wonderful place to sit and read book and watch the entire town below. It has a 360 degree view.
Interaction with Guests
We want our guests to enjoy their privacy while they stay at Casa las Palomas, but we find that since Joyce and I love to meet all the wonderful people that come to stay with us; we often gather at the terrace in the evenings , for the spectacular sunsets. We also love staying and and cooking simple but tasty meals from great local food and we often invite our guests to join (website hidden) is best when shared with friends, a glass of wine and good conversation.
Also, first time visitors to San Miguel join us in our daily walks to the centro and sometimes sit with us at the cafes, where we can talk about the many wonderful things to see and visit.
We love our neighbourhood !
It has a vibrant community feeling. Children playing on the streets, lots of grocery stores, butchers, and bakers at hands reach. Our immediate neighbours are both Mexican and American and they are all lovely and friendly people. There is even a 50 seat run theatre called The Shelter Theatre, run by a Canadian and Mexican couplewhere every tuesday there is an open mike evening.
The Santa Julia bus comes from the Jardin (the main plaza), passes by at the corner of the street. I take it home sometimes, when I have been walking all day and my feet are screaming at me. I like the bus, because each driver is always playing their own taste in music, and most times the bus has great friendly energy.
Other Things to Note
Some guests have asked us about the fountain in our courtyard. They ask about how much noise it makes. It is just a trickle.
It is set up on a timer and it shuts off at 10 pm.
Everyone who has enjoyed our house has been wonderful, friendly and very respectful of our Casa las Palomas. The house has various common areas where guests often find themselves sitting down and getting to know each other. My wife and I find this very charming and love getting to know our guests when we are there.
We can wholeheartedly recommend a stay at Casa Las Palomas! Ricardo and Joyce were very responsive to all our needs although not themselves in San Miguel during our stay. Our arrival was quite late at night but Alicia, the housekeeper, was at the door to meet us with a warm welcome and provisions for our breakfast.
The Casita itself (newly painted in aqua throughout) was a bit dark , being tucked in beneath the upper terraces, but the beautiful and spacious common areas joining all three dwellings provided unlimited opportunities for plein-air dining, reading, and socializing. Next year we will opt for the upper apartment with its ample natural light, high vaulted ceilings, and private covered terrace that serves as a cozy outdoor living room.
The working class neighborhood is a mix of residences and little shops. Walking at night might make one feel a bit uncertain but we never encountered any problems. Day or night, sturdy walking shoes are a must!
The reservation was canceled 37 days before arrival. This is an automated posting.
Totally felt great and welcomed by Ricardo y Joyce. I booked a month at the casita. Took the time to write a screenplay. Exploring San Miguel was delicious. Fantastic city.
The digs were amazing. Hummingbirds in the morning and whooshes of hot air balloons at dawn.
I had a great time staying here.
Chances are... I'll be back!
We just returned from two lovely weeks as guests in The Casita. The space was very comfortable, clean and spacious, with a very well equipped kitchen. We took full advantage of the roof top terrace morning and late afternoon, with wonderful views of the surrounding hills and downtown; the sunsets being a highlight along with the early morning birds. Alicia, the housekeeper gave us a warm welcome and was nearby when we needed her. She cooked a lovely caldo de pollo for us, which we shared with our neighbour in the Casa, on the terrace just outside our door. The neighbourhood is quiet enough, with shops nearby and feels safe at all hours. We walked to el centro in 15 minutes or took taxis. La Casita is very conveniently located a 15 minute walk to the central bus station, which we used to go to Guanajuato and Dolores Hidalgo. We loved San Miguel and look forward to returning soon.
The casita is attractive, comfortable, spacious and well-furnished. I looked forward to returning to it every day because it gave me a sense of home.. Joyce and Ricardo are gracious hosts and I felt at ease enjoying the beautifully-designed shared outdoor space. I would look forward to staying there again.
