Interaction with Guests
We want our guests to enjoy their privacy while they stay at Casa las Palomas, but we find that since Joyce and I love to meet all the wonderful people that come to stay with us; we often gather at the terrace in the evenings , for the spectacular sunsets. We also love staying and and cooking simple but tasty meals from great local food and we often invite our guests to join (website hidden) is best when shared with friends, a glass of wine and good conversation.
Also, first time visitors to San Miguel join us in our daily walks to the centro and sometimes sit with us at the cafes, where we can talk about the many wonderful things to see and visit.
We love our neighbourhood !
It has a vibrant community feeling. Children playing on the streets, lots of grocery stores, butchers, and bakers at hands reach. Our immediate neighbours are both Mexican and American and they are all lovely and friendly people. There is even a 50 seat run theatre called The Shelter Theatre, run by a Canadian and Mexican couplewhere every tuesday there is an open mike evening.
The Santa Julia bus comes from the Jardin (the main plaza), passes by at the corner of the street. I take it home sometimes, when I have been walking all day and my feet are screaming at me. I like the bus, because each driver is always playing their own taste in music, and most times the bus has great friendly energy.
Other Things to Note
Some guests have asked us about the fountain in our courtyard. They ask about how much noise it makes. It is just a trickle.
It is set up on a timer and it shuts off at 10 pm.
Everyone who has enjoyed our house has been wonderful, friendly and very respectful of our Casa las Palomas. The house has various common areas where guests often find themselves sitting down and getting to know each other. My wife and I find this very charming and love getting to know our guests when we are there.
I enjoyed my stay at Casa Las Palomas. The apartment had everything I needed for a 4 day stay. Alicia greeted me on arrival and came by a few times to help out. Alicia was very responsive during my stay and Ricardo and Joyce were in regular communication as well. I had to reschedule my trip a few days and they were very accommodating. Take heed though that the property is a good long walk from the center of town. It's good that the area is more residential and quieter but it's a serious walk on unpaved or cobblestone streets.
Ricardo's and Joyce's housekeeper stayed up to greet me due to my very late arrival. This was our (my husband joined me for the last 2 wks) second month-long stay in the apartmento which we love because of the bright colors and light that comes in, the birds chirping and greenery all about. Most of all, we love the covered sitting area just outside our door. We spent many hours there enjoying the outdoors without being in the hot sun. It's very easy to get into town by walking. Lots to do in San Miguel!
I felt welcomed by just walking up the street to la Paloma. It was alive with people at work and children coming back from school, a few dogs barking and a rooster crowing. I felt like I was really in Mexico. Ricardo and Joyce are perfect hosts...there when needed and doing there own thing when not. Their touches through out the property are very homey Mexican, between Ricardos artistic touches and Joyce's wonderful gardens, there's lots to catch your eye. Rooms are cozy and bright., and a spectacular view from the upper patio. The lower common is full of plants and natural light and always seems to be the gathering place for impromto dinners and fun. Your hosts are multi lingual and know the city and many of the artists and cafes well.the patios both afford getaway corners to curl up in the sun. It is a short and very interesting walk to town through the districts, or just a fun bus ride, or taxis are cheap. Have a fun stay as I did at la Paloma.....Rain
This was the perfect place to stay, for me and my friend! Housekeeper Alicia made us welcome, along with the neighbor (also Alicia!) The place was decorated in my favorite style- colors galore, and the location was perfect! As described, the house contains everything you need to cook a bit for yourselves when you don't want to be enjoying the excellent restaurants of San Miguel de Allende. We enjoyed the patios and views, having laundry capability is a real plus as well. Ricardo was there during our stay and we enjoyed some time with him as well as seeing his painting.
I had a wonderful stay at Casa Las Palomas! I spent almost 3 weeks here while exploring the lovely town of San Miguel. It is a short walking distance to the market, el centro and el jardin and all the great shops and restaurants in that area. Also within a few minutes of a Pollo Feliz express location where you can grab a delicious rotisserie chicken for dinner! Alicia the housekeeper was very helpful and always available to clean and wash laundry when asked. Big plus: as a solo female traveler, I felt quite safe here, even walking back home a few times after dark. You will love the apartment, it's just as it looks in the pictures - colorful, bright and clean!
Casa Las Palomas was the perfect home away from home for exploring San Miguel. Between adventures, we enjoyed the Nest and the apartment's patio and daybed for meals, siestas and sunsets. Inside is quaint and cheerful, with the best beds ever! Canal was a pleasant, walkable route to the Historic Center and other neighborhoods (even with a 7 year-old), as well as a great source for delicious fresh tortillas, tamales, roasted chicken, and pastries. While we didn't meet Ricardo & Joyce, they were very accommodating, responsive and helpful in planning our trip. Alicia and her family were also lovely. We highly recommend Casa las Palomas!
San Miguel is a magical place, even more special during Dia de los Muertos, which extended 4 days. Some of our family's favorites: Museo de los Jugetes (toys); Canada de la Virgen archaeological tour by Albert Coffee; the playground at Parque Juarez; affordable, handcrafted Catrinas, dolls, jewelry in the studio/gallery at the back of Casa Norman, followed by churros y chocolate on San Francisco; Plaza Civica; Belles Artes; gift shopping along Zacaterias en route to Instituto Allende, nearby Saturday organic market & The Beer Company; Mama Mia for pizza, margaritas & mezcal; Primera Plus bus from/to Mexico City.
Thank you, we're already dreaming about our next trip!
There is one word for this gorgeous little enclave. "OASIS!" Absolutely lovely property with beautiful gardens and roof deck.
