We had a wonderful stay at the Honaunau EcoRetreat Farm. When we first arrived, both my boyfriend and I had a jaw dropping emotion of wow, this is our accommodation. It it such a beautiful home, with an incredible view of the ocean. The home has 3 bedrooms, 2 decks, an outdoor and indoor shower, the kitchen has all of the amenities you will need. The decor is so tastefully designed.
Steve was a wonderful host and greeted us with a bowl of a typical Hawaiian fruit that we'd never experienced before. We didn't get to meet Melinda, as she was away. But Steve was so accommodating giving us many ideas of great things to do in the area.
I would recommend this place to everyone. If you're an animal lover, they also have 3 loveable cats, dogs, and many other animals.
I'd go back in a heartbeat.
This is what AirBnB is about... an enriching experience that offers a glimpse of something different, hosted by two of the most welcoming and visionary hosts. The place offers so much to many different types of travelers, depending on what they seek (rest/relax, exploring the island, meditative retreat, education re sustainability...). I stayed there for two nights, which was too short in my estimation.
The nitty gritty:
The home: beautiful and comfortable home with an expansive view from the balcony. It is immaculate, spacious, and open. The outdoor shower is fun and a bit different (there are also two indoor baths).
Location: Nestled in the hillside with view of the ocean in distance, it is quite peaceful, with the ubiquitous sounds of Coqui frogs at night. 30 minutes driving to Kona, but 5-10 minutes to some of the best snorkeling places on the island.
Communication: easy, and quick response via cell and airbnb.
The hosts: welcoming, friendly, and with a great vision. Admire their hard work, passion, thought, and expertise in trying to create a sustainable farm and community, and in creating a nurturing retreat.
The highlight of my stay was talking to Steve and Melinda about their projects, exploring the farm, and talking to the members of their small community on the 7 acre parcel, who work cooperatively to make the sustainable farm a reality. Kudos on a worthwhile project. And I would highly recommend the stay.
The house has really good vive, view, and friendly cats! The sunset from the balcony was beautiful and it is so quiet at night. It is essential to have a car, but with it, it's easy to get around.
I didn't get to meet Melinda, but Steve was very helpful! It' way better than staying in a hotel in Kona!
I loved my stay at the Honaunau EcoRetreat! It is beautiful, loved the views, the people that were staying, the gardens and the outdoor shower! Also, it was very convenient that they had snorkel gear to use as needed.

About the Host, Steve & Melinda
Our holistic farm and retreat is a place where we can engage with people and share in the abundance of a co-creative conscious lifestyle. We love meeting people from all over the world right here in our home. We enjoy engaging conversation about travel, spirituality, holistic living, healthy food and current affairs. We find people who use airbnb to be great guests and it is a pleasure to be a host in Hawaii because we have the opportunity to extend the magic and beauty of the island to all of them in unique ways. We love our life and we love to share it.
