Our spacious 2BR/3BA townhome is nestled on a quiet street right in the heart of downtown. Walk to shops, spas, the famous Ojai farmers market and The Ojai Valley Inn.
Spanish Colonial cottage in the heart of downtown Ojai. Two minute walk to shopping, concerts, spas and the famous Ojai farmers market. Eight minute walk to The Ojai Valley Inn with its world-class spa and golf facilities. In a three block radius you'll find the post office with its iconic clock tower, the county library, groceries, the bike trail that can take you all the way to the Ventura beaches, bike rentals for that trail and Libbey Park with its famous Libbey Bowl, home of outdoor summer concerts and the renown Ojai Music Festival.
As longtime residents of Ojai, we keep our home clean and simply furnished. You'll find all the things you need for everyday life -- a well stocked kitchen, toys for the kids, baby supplies and comfortable beds. Broadband internet, wifi, a Netfix account with unlimited shows and movies and a desktop computer will keep you connected. Three bathrooms guarantee you'll never wait in line. The king size bed made from all natural materials is truly fit for royalty. We love dining on the patio while listening to the Libbey Bowl concerts barely a stone's throw away. Best seat in the house.
But don't stay indoors for long. Enjoy strolling the Arcade boutiques, hiking the quiet trails listening to birds under the smell of wild sage, taking a horseback ride or visiting serene spiritual sites like Meditation Mount and Kratona. Enjoy soothing hot tubs, classes in Pilates and yoga and crystal clear swimming pools at the Ojai Athletic Club under the watchful gaze of the Topa Topa bluffs.
Okay, this description sounds a bit over the top. But mark my words, there's a reason why Ojai has the nickname "Shangri-La" and was the chosen site to set the film of the same name. Come and find out for yourself. And welcome to our home.
House, shared grounds and private patio.
Interaction with Guests
Always a phone or email away. I will not be present during your stay.
Downtown Ojai is a paradise. Shopping, nightlife, street fairs, art galleries, scrumptious food. And we're right by Libbey Park, home of fabulous outdoor concerts sheltered by oak trees. Some nights you'll hear music and smell orange blossoms. Others you'll hear coyotes and owls.
You can walk to nearly everything in town. For larger excursions, ride the Ojai trolley. Plenty of room for a couple cars, too.

This is not a hotel. It is our home and we visit frequently. We like to think of our guests as our new friends we just met who are coming to visit. We love to open our home to our new friends. We think that's the spirit of Airbnb, and use the service ourselves when we travel.
Although we are happy to share our place and things with you, we will miss them if they are gone, broken or mistreated. If you think of your stay with us as house sitting for a friend, then you don't need a list of rules.
You will find detailed instructions throughout the house on cards in each room and a big book of house guidelines, recommendations for food and activities and manuals for our various electronic gizmos in a binder we call "the book" which you will find on the table when you enter.
Besides that, we keep our house super clean and allergen free. No smoking, no pets.
This is the second time we stayed at Alden's place in Ojai. We liked the house and the community so much we came back . It is a beautiful place with everything you need and it is in the perfect location for exploring the completely walkable small town of Ojai. It's probably 50 feet from a walking/bike path that runs the length of Ojai and continues all the way to the beach town of Ventura 10. This path used to be a railroad right-of-way so it doesn't have steep hills. There is an Amtrak station not far from the end of this path so the adventurous could pedal to Ventura and catch a train to nearly anywhere on the Southern California coast. Alden has a great full-size refrigerator but you really don't need it because the closest grocery store is a block and a half away and and there are two other great stores within walking distance soyou can walk over before every meal to buy what you need. Although you might not be doing much cooking. There are at least 10 good restaurants within a few blocks- many as good as anything you would find in the big city. You can also walk to the big city park with bandshell, tennis courts and excellent picnic spots, the movie theater, post office, library, the community theater and arts center- pretty much everything you might want is within easy walking distance. Oh, and there's a great gym with an Olympic pool a couple blocks away on the walking path. We live out in the country where most places I want to go are more than 10 miles away and Alden's place in Ojai is perfect to experience the sweet small-town experience of Ojai. And for those of you in northern climes, we went to the beach 10 miles away on Valentine's Day and the teenagers were walking around in bikinis.
Alden is an excellent host, very attentive, and responded to my questions very quickly! The Ojai home is beautiful and in a prime location. The home was super clean when I arrived with adequate parking. The overall accommodations were outstanding!
The large windows provide lots of beautiful light during the day, especially for the nice, quiet mornings; the window coverings provide complete privacy for the space at night. The bedrooms are spacious and cozy while the bathrooms have great lighting. The kitchen is awesome with plenty of space to cook a fabulous meal and dine at the large table with a back patio view. This special space truly felt like our home for the week.
For five of our seven days in Ojai, we were out in nature exploring the breathtaking views and meditative trails. We also ventured to the local markets to get some fresh vegetables for dinner and dined at a few great restaurants. Mindful and restorative, our time in Ojai is etched on our hearts forever. No doubt, we will be back!
We are deeply grateful for the opportunity to stay at the Center City Sanctuary!
I have stayed at City Center many times. As usual it is spotlessly clean and comfortable.
It is 1 block to town, close to restaurants and shops. Alden is always attentive and caring to your needs
Alden's place was a perfect home base for our long weekend in Ojai. Communication with our host was always quick and friendly, from initial inquiry all the way through checkout. The home was immaculate and super spacious for three adults, and we appreciated all the local recommendations made in the house binder. True to the listing title, the location couldn't be more convenient to downtown Ojai and yet was still a quiet, serene place to return to after our days out & about. We'd definitely recommend this place and are looking forward to booking again so we can try out some more things from the binder that we didn't quite fit into this trip!
Pros: very well located, enjoyed walking into town. Easy entry with a code rather than looking for a key. Not cluttered with personal belongings. And it was clean. Alden the owner seemed like a very nice guy - though unfortunately we never met.
Cons: the video that's in the listing (not the mobile version) has a few half-truths. The mattress which is referred to as 'the height of luxury' and made only with organic material has polyester blankets and pillows (the hard kind). And the vaunted mattress - this is in the main bedroom - was also exceedingly hard. After waking with an aching back, ended up crashing in the children's room. The fireplace is inoperable and the one thermostat is located upstairs, making the downstairs chilly in wintertime. The downside of being in town is the property is only a few feet from houses and an apartment complex. Lastly the claim in the video that they live there seemed odd. Maybe they used to, but it's very obviously a vacation home ( a neighbor mentioned they live in Seattle). I personally prefer a vacation home, it's more spare and less loaded, but as the notion was stressed in the video, I was left scratching my head.
Upshot: probably wouldn't go back - the mattress and pillows being the deal breaker - but it is otherwise a decent, well appointed place and from all the positive reviews, my mixed impressions are obviously in the minority.
So sorry the house was a little disappointing. I guess I should clarify we live there a couple months a year, and keep our personal belongings stored to keep the house uncluttered. Point taken about the polyester blankets. We switched to these recently for guests because they were easier to keep clean for guests. I will update the description.
I joined a program that takes and will continue to take me to Ojai. This is my go-to place. It is a short walk to town. The condo is super clean, comfortable and roomy. I love dealing with Alden...very easy, helpful and friendly
We had a pleasant stay at alden's home and he was readily available to help out with all our questions and needs. I highly recommend his town home. It is a very convenient location and a walking distance to all shops and grocery stores. We were very happy with the host and the house.
Hi! I live mostly in Seattle with my wife Susan and two adorable kids. We like traveling, hiking in the mountains around Seattle, going to outdoor concerts and most of all food. Known for facing driving rain, horrendous traffic and the real possibility that the restaurant will be boarded up and abandoned on arrival just to savor the best Ethiopian food within 15 miles, we are mocked by many and appreciated by few. I learned to speak Spanish to order food (y lo hablo bastante bien), learned to cook to eat it, and learned to speak and write so I could talk about it.
Have you eaten somewhere I haven't? We must right this wrong. Ping me and tell me where and when. I'll meet you there.
