Interaction with Guests
We interact as much as you want. We've had guests who just wanted to be on their own and experience the city and guests who we've gone out with and shows the "secret neighborhood spots" too. We are happy to help make your stay in New Orleans the best it can be. We are very knowledgable an tourist spots, non-tourist spots, fun activities, food and bars and anything else you are interested in doing while you are in town.
It's a real neighborhood with neighbors you wave to or stop and chat with. The homes are beautiful and the whole area has been rebuilt better than it was before Katrina. There are over 20 great restaurants all within a mile of our home, including tons of great bars and shopping. Magazine street is wonderful.
There is a bus stop 1 block from our home. The St Charles streetcar line is about a 15 minute walk up Jackson. There are cabs as well, and we've been known to do a bit of carpooling with our guests on more than one occasion.
Other Things to Note
The French Quarter is about 2 miles away form our place. During Mardis Gras we are 5 to 10 blocks from most of the parade routes and Saint Patrick's Day in the Irish Channel is one of our best kept secrets, block parties you will never forget.
There is a Waldorf School for kids next door to the home. They feature an open curriculum so the children plant gardens, grow trees, vegetables, and flowers year round. Sometimes they play early in the morning so if the sound of kids playing and running around puts you off it is something to consider when booking.
Have fun, if you cook use all the seasonings under the kitchen counter, let New Orleans welcome you like it's welcomed us. No Smoking inside, Smoking on the porch outside is acceptable, Please use the ashtray.
We provide all the basics you need for the BBQ. Charcoal, a chimney starter, propane, the grill does both. We just ask that if you use the BBQ on the deck please be sure to clean it before you leave. The basic rule of the house is to try to leave the place as you found it.
Please wash and rinse any dishes or glasses you use. You don't have to put everything away as long as you leave them on the dish rack.
Please throw any used towels or washcloths in the shower.
Please toss any trash and any full garbage bags into one of the big garbage cans out front.
Though we have our checkin time set at 3PM and checkout time at 11AM, if there are no outgoing or incoming guests we can be flexible with those times. Just ask.
If you arrive early or have a late departure, guests are welcome to leave their luggage with us next door.
Please, no eating or drinking in the beds. Any loss or damage to the linens or other items in the house will be deducted from your deposit.
The host could not have been nicer and more accommodating. From the moment we arrived, he was courteous, helpful about showing us around the house and telling us good spots in the neighborhood, and was super friendly. We instantly clicked and it was very nice to feel so welcome with a down to earth guy who was so knowledgeable about New Orleans. The pictures and description did the place justice, and our expectations were even exceeded. Fantastic place overall; nice-to-haves were a vinyl record player, fresh herbs in the garden at our picking like mint, chilis, lemongrass, cherry tomatoes, basic, oregano, rosemary, and more...free coffee/tea, things to cook with like spices, shampoos and soaps provided. WOW. PLUS - the neighborhood is fantastic. Sophisticated yet homey scene sporting great restaurants/coffee (Salu, Hi Volt), a Whole Foods, a Design Within Reach, interior design stores, clothing boutiques, and more. A level above the French Quarters in terms of complexity and fine dining options, but still with great local fried fare. On point, even for the most discriminating palate.
Place is great, Scott is great, super cosy place to stay when you're in NOLA.
We had a great time in New Orleans. The house was clean and nice, exactly like the pictures. Lots of towels, and all of the condiments you would need to cook. The bus stop to the French Quarter was a couple of blocks away. We liked being away from the crowd but to have easy access when we needed it. Scott and Leah had beer and wine waiting for us after our long drive. They also left us a personal guide to happenings on Magazine St. where we ate a lot of our meals.
I had a ball in New Orleans. I loved every part of this apartment. The neighborhood was safe and a short distance away from most things. Buses to French Quarter and streetcars were within a 10 minute walk away. Great dive bars and restaurants around. Leah and Scott are an amazing host and we had everything we needed. Very helpful folks. The advantage of staying at a place where the host have lived in the city for a long time is that, you get great recommendations for places to go and check out. For someone like me who's more interested in exploring the culture of the city and not necessarily the touristy spots, the recommendations were great. I'd definitely recommend this place for anyone and everyone!
Thank you Leah and Scott.
Scott & Leah were excellent hosts. Our stay was wonderful. The only thing is the one bathroom with five people was tricky but that's on my part for not realizing there's was only one bathroom. The house is within walking distance to a lot of really cool bars/restaurants. I really enjoyed my stay.
We had a wonderful time in this beautiful home away from home! The house was lovely, clean and welcoming! The hosts were fantastic to work with! Can not recommend them enough!
We loved the house and loved our stay in New Orleans! The house is located uptown and just a short walk to some great food and bars and Magazine St. 10 minute cab ride to the French Quarter.
Scott, Leah and their house were super accommodating! Scott told us all the cool bars to go to and the cool bands that were playing up the street. (Parasol's is a must for food and boozy frozen coffee slushies.) The house was well stocked with extra shampoo and things, which I loved.
I will return to NOLA again and when I do, I hope Scott and Leah's house is available!

About the Host, We Are Leah And Scott
Scott and I split our time between Los Angeles and New Orleans. We love to share all the joys our cities have to offer with visitors who are looking for something beyond the usual tourist destinations. We truly enjoy pointing guests in the right direction for food, live music, art and quirky, fun venues.... many of them found off the beaten track.
We love to travel and we are greatly inspired in our art/lives by what we experience on our travels. Ambiguous hotel rooms? No thank you.
