Casa Abierta is safe & secluded - just 20 min. from Managua but feels far from the heat and noise. Deck has gorgeous views & house is open plan w/ loft, kitchen, living/bedroom. Lots of screens for airflow, so it's very cool. Accessible to Managua in charming rural village next to forest walks on trails with views & wood-fired hot tub. *Note: Our place is extra peaceful because we *do not* have WiFi!
The space
My husband Paul and I built the Casa Abierta (Open House) Cabin for our families to use on their visits to Nicaragua. We are delighted to make this charming space available to other visitors. It's next door to our own house where we live. We are 1 hour from the airport (depending on traffic), and can do drop off and pick ups if arranged ahead of time. There is a bathroom with shower. There is a double bed in the loft upstairs and a queen sized bed downstairs. It comfortably houses 4 people. The Casa is open plan with a small kitchen (fridge, four burner stove with oven, sink & cabinets), dining table and living area. The cabin is very private, closed at the back to the road, but the front is screened to allow for maximum air flow. Paul is a furniture designer and maker, so there are tasteful touches of his work throughout the Casa. The patio with hot tub is the highlight of the house, it sits in the trees with a view out over the folds of the hills and dozens of tropical birds to spot. The Casa Abierta is very safe, the property has 24 hour security. It is close to nature walks, secluded and quiet, the perfect place for relaxation and retreat.
Guest access
You'll have full access to the Casa Abierta cabin and its deck. You can do your own cooking in the kitchen at the Casa Abierta, or we can arrange for Nicaraguan-style meals to be delivered to you ($5 per plate). There are walks down in the garden, up the hill to our rope swing and up our ridge for views of Managua.
Other things to note
We can be hard to find, at the end of 5+ km of rustic dirt roads. Let us help you arrange a ride with a taxi driver who knows the road or send instructions if you're driving yourself. Coming and going by bus or mototaxi is possible with limited schedule.

I'm originally from N. Idaho, USA, my husband Paul is from Cork City, Ireland, we've been living in Nicaragua for 25 years. We have two daughters born & raised in the small village of Cuajachillo #2 just outside of Managua. Paul runs a small woodworking shop in the village. We enjoy being involved in our community and love to meet communities wherever we go.
