About this listing
It's better in the center! Our two bedroom flat is on a quiet street in the middle of everything in the canal belt. Walk everywhere or it's steps to the trams or the bike rental place. We've got super-duper wifi that can handle all your devices!
The comfy leather couch from the front. Because let's be honest, fabric couches are nasty. Kitchen is in the background
Clean, affordable two bedroom apartment in arguably the best neighborhood in Amsterdam. The bedrooms are real bedrooms and not some curtained off space or attic room. It perfect for a couple and holds four people well. The fifth would sleep on a luxury air mattress (with a proper mattress top) in the living room.
Our place is steps from five tram lines. It's even close to three metro lines that you will never take. But you could!
No one would confuse our place for the Ritz, but it is nice. You get a real queen bed in the master bedroom (not two euro single beds pushed together) and a double bed in the tiny room.
We can provide a high-end, raised air mattress in the living room if persons three and four don't want to sleep together. (We also won't tell if they do). The tiny room is also great for kids who will be charmed by a room that's the size of a double bed.
We have great wifi which can handle many items like all your phones and tablets at the same time. Many Airbnb places (and many hotels) cannot say that. It is a secure network designed by a real IT person because this is 2015 and wifi is important. You never type in access codes and are never logged out (high-end hotels, I'm talking to you).
The kitchen has a gas range, oven, microwave, dishwasher, hot AND cold water with all the variations of warm in between.
Is your flight departing in the evening or are you arriving early? Leave your luggage in our garage until the place is ready or after you check out. Likewise if you are a family with children you can leave strollers and other items downstairs as well.
The apartment has a hair dryer.
Interaction with Guests
We live in a (totally separate) apartment upstairs in the building so you don't need to call India to talk to the help desk if something goes wrong. If there are any problems, we can solve them quickly.
We can give you great advice and recommendations, but otherwise there is not much interaction.
The apartment is in the center, in the middle of the canals, on a quiet side street, just off the wonderful Utrechtsestraat with its shopping, bars, cafes and restaurants.
You can walk to the Rembrandtplein, the Leidseplein, the Heineken Brewery (sorry, the Heineken Experience), the Pijp (PIPE), the red light district, all the museums. OK, this is Amsterdam. You can walk to everything from the center.
Around the corner is literally everything. There are the Seven Bridges, the classic Amsterdam photograph. You got the Koffie Salon, voted best coffee in the Netherlands and Barneys, one of the best 'coffee shops' in Amsterdam (wink, wink).
On our street is a mom and pop bike rental place that has incognito bikes without stickers that say Dumb Tourist Bike Rental. There's a newsstand, many cafes, a 200 year old bar, restaurants, a supermarket that's open until 10, a must-see cheese shop, a fruit specialist (expensive), a flower stand (cheap), and a mini mart for beer, wine and crap, We've got Two For Joy, a great breakfast place. I could go on... How many characters do I have left?
Two minutes farther is a great park for kids with a three story climbing net tower and a pancake restaurant (two separate things). As parents ourselves, we can help plan days for children of all ages. We have a baby crib and there are window locks which make the place toddler friendly.
We own Boom Chicago, the famous (English-language) Amsterdam comedy show which makes smart, multimedia sketch and improv comedy shows. We will upgrade you to the Comedy Central Couch if you rent with us.
We also make the best guide to the city with a wonderful map, the Boom Magazine, so we're pretty plugged in. Need to get into clubs? Restaurants? Torture parties like in the movie Hostel? We'll hook you up.
See our blog for more city tips. Search for Boom Chicago's Urban Amsterdam.
Best of all, we live on a street with 20 letters in its name including six vowels you can't pronounce. What could be more Dutch than that?
You can walk literally everywhere.
There are five tram lines nearby (4, 7, 10, 16, and 24). It's a ten minute direct tram from Centraal Station and 15 minutes direct to the RAI.
There is a good bike rental place on our street.
Street parking is easy, but expensive. There is a garage a ten minute walk away. Park and ride is only one euro a day (for up to 4 days) and you take the tram in. I will send you more detailed transit and parking instructions when you book.
Other Things to Note
We also have an additional 1BR apartment downstairs that holds another four people. The two places can be booked together if you have a larger group. It's here: www.airbnb.com/rooms/2820243
We live in a residential neighborhood and take pride in good relations with our neighbors. The back windows open onto a courtyard and we want guests that are considerate with their noise. This is not a party apartment.
Only registered guests are allowed in the place.
Sorry no pets and no smoking inside. Enjoy the passing parade as you smoke on the street.
Better shot of kitchen and dining table. From down low, you can't see the scratches on the table that give it character. Yes, we're going with 'character.'
Andrew was generous in allowing us to make a two-night booking in a central-location apartment in the canal rings that can easily, I suspect, but rented for a week at a time! We were grateful because being so centrally located for such a short stay made a huge difference to our experience. The apartment was clean and very reasonably stocked for cooking at home. But while the immediate neighborhood is a quiet residential street, a block away is plenty of action - good restaurants, a great urban grocery, museums, shopping & fun, so you may not actually want to do that much cooking at home. . . The main bedroom is large & airy, the 2nd is small with what I think was a double, but worked fine for our young couple. A deep inflatable mattress gave us a fifth. . . . Be aware that the apartment is what would be called in the US a "3rd floor walkup", in Europe I think it's called a "2nd". But still worth it, worth it!! Try a good 1st dinner at Bar Moustache, and, although we didn't have the time, the comedy club would have been one of our goals for a longer stay!!
Our experience was great. Andrew met us at the door when we arrived. He showed us the apartment and had a typed out instructions of the use of the apartment. Andrew was availablle to answer any questions we had via text or email. His place was very comfortable and spacious for our family of four. Great location to the centre city, the tram was very close and a market was around the block for grocery. We stayed for 9 days, we needed to do laundry and there was a laundery mat around the block, very convenient and we felt very safe at all times.
The listing description was very accurate, the place looked just like the pictures. We had great communication before the trip with Andrew, he made sure everything was set. He even had the room ready before the 3PM check in time since we got there early. When we arrived, everything was set, including great instructions and a map of the nearby area. The locations was fantastic, an easy walk to basically everything. Overall, we had a great time and were very happy with the place.
We had a great experience at both Andrew's flats (there were 10 of us so we booked them as a group). Although we never met Andrew in person, he arranged for someone to be there to let us into the flats. Everything worked perfectly, and we loved the location.
The apartment is perfectly located. It's one block away from the tram station. The rijks museum is three blocks away. If you love walking, you won't need to use public transportation. The neighborhood is very nice and Andrew gives us a neighborhood map drawn by him where you can see the bakeries and supermarkets nearby. The apartment is as the photos show.
The neighborhood was perfect! Very nice and in a great location! The apartment was very nice and great for four people. The host had excellent recommendations for things to do and places to eat around Amsterdam. Would recommend to all!

About the Host, Andrew
I was born in Chicago and 20 years ago I was a tourist in Amsterdam and fell in love with the city. We moved here to start Boom Chicago with my best friend and my future wife (two separate people). Now it's an Amsterdam comedy institution.
I write the Boom Chicago Urban Amsterdam magazine and blog about Amsterdam and still like to go out to bars, restaurants and clubs. I love to bike and am an expert in public transportation (and a train nerd). I can get you to any place in the country without a car. In case you were wondering, being a successful adult and not having a car makes you a weirdo in the Netherlands as well.
We have two Steve Ritchie pinball machines (including the fantastic new Star Trek) in our club and Wizard of Oz is on the way. If that means anything to you (it does not to my wife), we should talk.
