The Space

Escape the stress of modern living and retreat to the lush sub-tropical rainforests of Arakoon. Imagine waking up to the sound of Kookaburras welcoming the new day while you savour your breakfast.

What you do with your day is up to you. You could take a walk along the beautiful Trial Bay or perhaps explore the relics of the Trial Bay Gaol built over 100 years ago. Maybe you will venture up to the top of our famous light house to take in the 360 degree views, or you could always just kick back and some enjoy beach, estuary, or offshore boat fishing. Experience surfing along the kilometres of pure sand that make our beaches amongst the best on the East Coast of Australia.

There are 4 bedrooms available to you. The first room is the blue room (ocean room) and has a queen bed, television etc. the second room is the African room and also has a queen bed in it and television set. The third bedroom has a double bed and television. These share a large bathroom across the hall. There is also an ensuite room off the common room which has a king bed and this bed can be separated into 2 king singles should this be required. This room is slightly dearer at $95.00 per night with it's private bathroom. A bbq is outside for your use or the typical ozzie bbq. We look forward to you coming and sharing our part of South West Rocks and experience the beautiful area we have to offer.

Our place is unique in that it is so peaceful a surrounding with the birdlife to relax too.

Check In
  • Joy was amazingly quick to respond to my last afternoon request to help my sister who was travelling out. Joy met her and my niece and got them settled for the night and then checked on them the next morning. Couldn't have asked for more. thank you

  • Dear Joy and Damien,

Thank you so much for your hospitality and your kindness. Our stay at your place was lovely but too short. All was perfect and we hope to come again on your place. Thank you Damien for the '4WD tour' to the beach. The boys will remember that all their life. A next time, we will fish with you.
Thanks a lot and see you again,
Isabelle, the boys (Romain & Aurélien) and Damien

    Response from Joy:

Glad we could show you a little bit of Ozzie hospitality and the picturesque locations we have here in our area......the boys will always remember the 'lobster hole' and please come visit us again. Damien will take the boys fishing next time and show them how to get their own bait (beach worms from under the sand) and then come home and cook your own fish meal for dinner......hope you enjoy the remainder of your time in Australia and look forward to your next time with us.

  • This is a peaceful location--only a short drive to beaches and attractions. Very comfortable house and good breakfast. Joy is an excellent host and made us feel welcome. We can definitely recommend a stay here.

  • My friends and I (4 of us altogether) drove up to SWRocks for some scuba diving and decided to stay over at Joy's lovely B&B in Arakoon, which is only about a 5 min drive from town - and we absolutely enjoyed our experience!! The beds were very comfortable and the place is such a gem of a retreat. We all commented in the morning about how well we slept!

Joy and her husband were very friendly and even helped out non-diving friend meet with with some local surfers to go surfing in a nearby beach. Amenities were functional and worked well (e.g. excellent hot water and pressure, locks on rooms, separate toilet) - no kitchen but we didn't really need it. And Joy does a wicked home-made muesli with fresh fruit and yoghurt.

Highly recommended and we will certainly be staying there again next time we come up to SWRocks for diving. Brilliant stay!

  • Staying with Joy was an absolute pleasure - gorgeous, peaceful home, lovely lady, and wonderful hospitality. I will definitely be back again. Thanks (website hidden). Sam is still talking about that fish - more than the triathlon he did that day!

  • Our stay at the Bush Retreat was wonderful, the property is very spacious, wonderful setting. Joy wasn't there for our stay, but left everything in her daughters capable hands. Very welcoming, provided good recommendations for places to explore, great breakfast. Would definitely stay again if in the area.

  • We had a lovely time at Joy's fantastic B&B. Everything was spotlessly clean and really comfortable. Joy seems to have thought of everything her guests could possibly need, we appreciated the travel adaptor and the scrabble! Thanks so much for making us feel so welcome, we especially enjoyed seeing a little bit of Aussie wildlife thanks to the furry late night visitor to the kitchen! Joy kindly shared the recipe for her delicious muesli which has already been put to good use. We hope to be back someday....

  • Joy & Damien's Bush Retreat is perfectly located to all the great sights while being secluded as well. Really spacious & comfortable. Joy & Damien were lovely, lively hosts, and obviously experienced in knowing how to create a comfortable environment for their guests.

We heard from another couple staying at the time about their fishing adventure with Damien, hopefully next time when we're back, and perhaps in the winter too as Joy says it's beautiful then!

    Thanks Joy & Damien

Easy to get along with Damien and Joy enjoy people's company. We love the peace and quiet of our surroundings together with the beach lifestyle. Damien has been a professional fisherman/lobster/abalone diver down south and loves to take people to experience the outdoors of catching beach worms, yabbies and even throw a line in and catch fish.Joy loves floristry for relaxation and pottering in the gardens. You can enjoy being by yourselves or experience our world. Our motto is enter as strangers, leave as friends.
