The Space

Through some unexpected twist of fate, we have gone from renting little houses in cold, inaccessible parts of the country to a huge 5 bedroomed farmhouse on the stunning Cornish Riviera, just off the Roseland Peninsula and within the wider estate of the Lost Gardens of Heligan. From our back garden we have a view of the sea and a footpath leading straight to Pentewan beach, less than half an hours walk away. The Lost Gardens of Heligan are on our doorstep and nowhere in Cornwall's wildly varied landscape is more than a day trip away.
With there being only 2 of us, we had to decide what to do with the extra 4 bedrooms. A traditional run of the mill B&B was never going to be our style and long term lodgers seemed all very permanent. Right about then, Airbnb was recommended to us and the prefect solution clicked. What we have now is a giant homestay, hopefully somewhere you can really relax and feel at home. You are welcome to make use of the kitchen to cook meals, and help yourself to tea and coffee whenever you fancy. We have a piano in the living room that we can't really play so its particularly nice when we get guests who can make the most of it.

We try to be as flexible as possible, no strict check in or out times we work this on a day by day basis depending on what your plans are. If you are travelling as a family we can put a double or single airbed in one of the rooms so you can all stay together or we have a bunk room perfect for extra adults or kids. If you are not sure if we can help, the best thing to do is get in touch, let us know what you are looking for and we will do our best to help.
The kitchen and bathrooms are shared with the whole household, obviously you have your private bedroom and there is an old slate floored living and dining room shared with other guests. We have our own living area where our animals stay so you will never find yourself tripping over us or our animals (unless you want to that is!) but you always know where to find us. Next to the kitchen at the back of the house is the old pantry where you are welcome to use the fridge and storage space for your own food. On from the pantry we have room for safe bike, surfboard and kayak storage.

Breakfast is continental style consisting of our own handmade organic bread, cereals, oats, fruit, a selection of teas and coffee, milk and soya milk, jam and marmalade. If you fancy a fry up you are welcome to supply the ingredients and use the kitchen to cook this yourself. We lay out our breakfast in the dining room the night before so its easy to find in the morning and ready for you whether you rise at 6am or 12pm!

There is parking available on the driveway for at least 5 cars. If you are travelling by public transport we are more than happy to collect and drop you from Truro or St Austell stations. We can also help with lifts around the local area for a small fuel charge. Our closest bus stop is at Heligan (10 minutes walk) but the drivers will usually stop outside the house for drop off's if you ask.

Pets are welcome to stay at the house, obviously our first priority is keeping our animals safe and the house comfortable for everybody so please read over our house rules if you are interested in staying with a pet.

Our closest shop is Lobbs Farm Shop, 10 minutes walk from the house. We are 1 mile from the historic fishing village of Mevagissey, home to plenty of pubs, restaurants, quaint little shops and an impressive two- walled harbour. Pentewan, also 1 mile along a dedicated footpath, is a small town with a pub, a few restaurants, cycle and water sports hire and an extensive, very beautiful beach (email hidden) on the sand. The Eden Project is 10 miles away by car or there is dedicated cycle route directly from the house.

Room 4 always feels like the brightest room, maybe its the soft orange carpet giving it a more sunny feel! It has a slightly lower, solid wood double bed and a built in wardrobe. This room sits at the front of the house so gets good light throughout the day and has a view of farmland and woodland out towards Heligan Gardens. All our rooms are upstairs and across the hall from a bathroom so you never have far to go. Both bathrooms are cleaned meticulously several times each day.

Although our homestay does help pay our bills it doesn't feel like a business, we love filling the house with life and sharing our good fortune.

  • Staying with Vanessa and Lou at Heligan Seaside Farmhouse was our first air bnb experience. If the hospitality offered by Vanessa and Lou is representative of all air bnb experiences we will surely use air bnb again. The old farmhouse oozed character, our hosts were welcoming, friendly and inclusive and the 'help yourself, home cooked' breakfasts were yummy. Loved the experience. Thanks Vanessa and Lou.

  • We had a great stay at the house of Vanessa and Lou. They both are very welcoming and open people. The room was great, the shared bathrooms beautiful and clean and we could use all the facilities in the house. It was very nice chatting with them and the other guests. Peruppa Farmhouse is a great location when you want to go to The Eden Project, Mevagissey, the Lost Garden of Heligan and discover the rest of Cornwall. We would definitely stay here again.

  • Vanessa and Lou are wonderful hosts. They are very welcoming, considerate and helpful. Breakfast was very delicious. The bathrooms are beautiful.
One thing: It can be a bit noisy in the morning, if the window is open, because of the road next to the house, but for us that was no problem at all.
Mevagissey and Pentwean aswell as the Lost Gardens of Heligan can all be reached by foot, which we liked a lot.
It is an amazing place. We stayed for three nights and loved it.

  • My partner and I had a lovely two nights with Lou and Vanessa. Such warm and friendly people. This is a home more than just a place to stay. Beautiful area. Short walk to Pentewan, and a great base from which to explore the Cornwall area. Vanessa and Lou were great with suggestions of what to see and do in the area, and very kindly drove us to and from St Austell station a number of times. I would have no hesitation recommending their place to others.

  • Hosts were incredibly friendly and welcoming. We arrived too late for restaurants so they let us use some of their own food in return for a donation. Such warm people. Playful dog and one of the cats is a super friendly fluffball. Room was comfortable and clean. Would return without doubt.

  • We had a very warm and comfortable stay at Lou & Vanessa's lovely farmhouse. The room was a good size with a comfortable bed - and if you look up, you can see the stars! The shared bathroom is huge and has a lovely cast iron bath. We arrived quite late and left without breakfast, but some fellow guests looked most comfortable watching a movie, and Lou & Vanessa had everything laid out for breakfast, including some lovely bread. It is really well situated for The Lost Gardens of Heligan and Mevaggisey, Lou and Vanessa are friendly and welcoming hosts, and the WiFi is excellent! Thanks for a great stay x

  • I have special dietary needs which makes holidaying difficult. Staying with Vanessa & Lou at Peruppa took all the worry away. I was able to cook what i needed in the well equipped kitchen at any time of day or night and keep all my foods in the fridge and cubboards so it was just like being at home!
My beloved dog Clara was made most welcome to the point of homemade dog biscuits and dog sitting. Clara loved our hosts and that says it all for me!

  • What a lovely farmhouse to come back to after long days of sightseeing. Vanessa and Lou were lovely and gave us lots of information about the area and more - really easy going and welcoming. A definite highlight was waking up to lush homemade bread every morning, SO good! The beach is minutes away, with at Austell and Truro not far up the road. Our room had glorious views. A lovely place.

  • We had a fantastic stay with Vanessa and Lou. The room was clean and cosy with beautiful views, and they couldn't have been more helpful as hosts. The home-cooked bread was delicious, and the assortment of pets (especially Django!) made the stay feel like we were living in our own home. We will definitely stay here again if we get the chance to visit Cornwall again in the future.

  • My partner and I feel quite regretful in writing this review; it reminds us that we have left Peruppa after far too short a stay! Vanessa and Lou were incredibly accommodating, warm and friendly, whilst the property itself felt like a family home within which each guest was a member. Peruppa is ideally located for those wanting to explore Cornwall, especially for those looking for a bit more authenticity than that offered by many of Cornwall's more tourist orientated destinations and accommodation. This was by far the best accommodation that we experienced in our travels around Cornwall, so much more relaxing and welcoming than the usual B and B. Having now returned to London we have been busy trying to convince/persuade/force our friends and family to take a trip west to Cornwall, if only to sample Peruppa house along with Vanessa and Lou's excellent hospitality.

We both love this part of the Country with a passion and we were lucky to find this beautiful house in what we think is the perfect location. It's a project though! as most of the house and gardens require, or have required a lot of re decorating and re furbishment, which fulfils both our interest in creating warmth and life into a house thats let just say, had been a little neglected! Fortunately we love all things DIY and very much enjoy using materials that we obtain from tradespeople, either no longer needed by them, or in exchange for products we have or have made. The whole buying, selling, exchanging and recycling is an ethos we very much involve ourselves with and with this in mind you will find many things within our home that reflect this, some obvious and some not! We share the house with our lovely natured animal family consisting of our beautiful dog Dillon, 2 personality filled cats (who tend to be the purring welcoming party on your arrival!) and our gentle little pet rats. All the animals walk with us through the fields and woods alongside the house (well, when the rats do come too, they actually hitch a shoulder ride!) and its probably when we are most at one with ourselves and nature with each morning stroll to view the sunrise over Pentewan Bay. Barn owls nest in the neighbouring outbuildings across from the house and Heligan have their webcams set up to view 24/7, but we are privileged to be able to sit in the garden and watch their nightly fly bys, so we really do have the best seat in the house! We love music, film, theatre, discovering new places and have a big interest and passion for cooking and our guests always have home made breads and various other food samples as standard on any one day. We want people who come here to love the house and the area as much as we do, but above all we want everyone to just relax, be themselves, take time to themselves with their children or dogs or have a friendly natter if they want to and enjoy the freedom to live here as we do, all under the supervision of our house animal mascots Dillon, Jade Django & Dexter!!
