A stay at the Centre Culturel "Le Château" is a unique experience off the beaten track! On the Langue de Barbarie, in the heart of the thriving fishing village and a 2-minute walk from the historic centre, a bright and spacious room await you in the former Palace of the Governor of Mauritania, today a space for artistic creation. Your stay directly funds a local cultural project!
The space
The room occupies a wing of the former Palace of the Governor of Mauritania, in Saint-Louis - a UNESCO World Heritage city between the Senegal River and the ocean.
The room is independent, with two double and two single beds, fitted with mosquito nets. Bed linen and towels are provided. On request, we can add extra mattresses. Private bathroom with hot shower. Shared equipped kitchen with washing machine. Fast WiFi connection. The Centre's activities end at 8 pm: nights are reliably quiet, with river breeze and, depending on the season, the Harmattan.
Le Château is the historic home of Compagnie Diagn'Art and the Festival Duo Solo Danse, one of Senegal's leading contemporary dance festivals, running since 2008. Year-round, it hosts professional companies in residence, performances, masterclasses, workshops, and screenings for local audiences.
For travellers who wish to meet local people and immerse themselves in culture and art, this is the perfect place. You can watch dance and/or theatre rehearsals, attend performances, follow or join dance classes, and spend time with the artists and the team at the patio bar. Or enjoy a drink on the panoramic rooftop terrace, which offers one of the finest views of Saint-Louis and its surroundings.
Guest access
Check-in is from 1 pm and check-out by 11 am.
Guests have access to all spaces within the Cultural Centre, including the courtyard, shared kitchen, and bar, natural meeting points with resident artists and staff. Transport is nearby, with buses and taxis stopping right in front of the Château.
A stay at Le Château is a chance to go backstage in a working neighbourhood arts centre, in Senegal's cultural capital. Depending on the programme, you may catch rehearsals or performances in the main stage space or on the rooftop terrace.
During your stay
The Centre's team is available at any moment to help you make the most of Saint-Louis: local recommendations suited to your budget, key sights, and a heads-up on any unmissable events during your stay.

Where you’ll be
Saint-Louis, Senegal
Ndar-Toute means in Wolof "Le Petit Saint-Louis". But the Saint-Louisiens call it more often Santhiaba, the new city. The Ndar-Toute market, whose market halls date back to 1901, is one of the most picturesque places visited, colorful, teeming, where carts and carriages rub shoulders, taxi and fast buses, fruit and vegetable merchants, fish vendors, Moorish jewelers, tailors and merchants in an indescribable charivari.
