The Space

Your room is warm, tranquil and bright with a really comfy double bed, fresh sheets, towels and tea & coffee making facilities. With your own key you can come and go as you please - very much your own space. There is car parking on the street outside.

Our traditional town house in central York is over 120 years old. It is easy going, relaxed and friendly. We are lucky to live in York’s most fashionable area with a great range of local cafes, shops, restaurants and traditional pubs. Truly unique for this city and as travellers ourselves we know these small things really count.

Check out our great reviews for amazing breakfast and late night food options right on your doorstep.

There's a well stocked store open until midnight seven days a week and we particularly recommend the local fish and chips. Life just couldn't be easier!

Only a few minutes’ walk of the medieval centre, old city walls and the rail and bus stations the location is superb. No waiting for taxis, buses or long walks back after a long day seeing the sights. As lifelong 'Yorkies' we have endless personal recommendations, maps and guidebooks waiting for you.

If you love to cycle, we are on the local and national cycle networks with very easy access to all York attractions, universities and colleges. Bicycles can be hired locally and secure safe parking is provided. The 2014 Tour De France is going right passed our front door.

There is a bus stop outside our house for those exploring further afield. The York Tour bus passes by and you can hop on and off as you please. Be sure to wave!

Across the road is a riverside park with a fabulous reading café and the renowned York racecourse with amazing Saturday morning flea market is nearby (people come from all over Europe for this).

On departure, don't be carrying bags around. Pick them up later en-route to the nearby rail and bus stations.

We are open to ideas so get in touch and we will seek to accommodate. We have hosted lots of world travellers students, academics, workers, couples, single travellers, honeymooners and cyclists in recent months and received 100 per cent amazing reviews.

  • We stayed at Julia's for 2 nights and it was such a pleasant visit to York. Other than a small miscommunication at the start the whole trip was fantastic. The room at the top was nice and perfect for 2. Plenty of space for your bags etc. It looks just like it is in the picture wit plenty of sunlight streaming in during the day. Comfortable bed and a window provided plenty of ventilation and cool air.

Toilet was located on the first floor so be prepared to climb stairs if that might be an issue. For us it wasn't so we have nothing to complain about. The house itself was located just minutes away from a sainsburys and a row of restaurants a little further down. Its really close to the wall so you can take a walk along it to catch the sunset. Its about a 12 minute walk from the train station and 10 min walk to cliffords tower and 15min to the city centre (minster, shambles, museum garden etc). Really convenient place that is accessible to everything!

We only met Julia and her husband on our last day right before we left and it was nice to actually meet them. They are a lovely couple that were friendly and so nice. Wish we could have stayed longer!

  • This was my first use of airbnb and I was delighted! Julia met me on arrival and showed me around. My room was just what I needed and the broadband was great. I would most certainly use Julia's place again when in York. Plenty choice of restaurant only two mins walk away - I chose the Indian, which was good. There is also a small Sainsbury's open until midnight.

Note: Julia's place is a 10 -15 minute walk from the Racecourse, which might be good to know. I parked on the street out of hours but I might have needed to sort a residents parking ticket if was leaving my car there during the day.

  • This was our first time on Air bnb and Julia's 'Room at the Top' was exactly as described and reviewed in all the positive ways that I read before picking it as our stay in York. Unfortunately we didn't get to meet Julia but she was brilliant at leaving clear instructions and lovely warm messages so we felt welcomed nevertheless. The room was comfortable clean and with a lovely view, as were the bathroom and toilet. It felt like we were staying in the house of old friends, - perhaps helped by Julia's bathroom wallpaper being the same as my parent's used to have! This feeling of comfort was so strong that I had to be stopped by Maik from stripping the bed and leaving a thank you present. I wasn't sure of the etiquette of all that, but concluded that since it was a bnb that it would be OK not to. ;-) Julia's warm welcoming home made our stay in York fun and special. It is a great area, within walking distance of the town centre and just really gave us the fleeting sensation of being locals in a cool house. Thanks again, we look forward to returning and would definitely recommend this room to others.

  • We stayed at the "Room At The Top" for two nights. It felt like an attic, it was cosy, comfy and warm. Lovely place, tastefully decorated and Julia and Paul were wonderful hosts. Easy walking distance from the station and the city centre. Highly recommended!

  • Please allow me to be slightly biased. The experience with Julia and Paul is absolutely the best I have through my travelling around various parts of the world. Simply put, Julia & Paul can be a brand in York.

The house is fantastic, so that I am motivated to study harder to buy one of my own like this in a years to come.

It is a 15 minutes' walk from the York Railway station, and the location is actually central to wander around the major scenic spots and tourist attractions. The shops and restaurants nearby presented an authentic image of the neighborhood (seeing the same customer joking around with the same waitress twice, and the same gentleman sitting at the same table reading with the same magnifying glass twice).

Julia and Paul are wonderful hosts, nice and warm. More importantly, they would like to share with us their travelling and adventures after graduation. I love people with stories and those willing to share are always a treasured gift to me. That is one of the reasons why I normally choose Airbnb rather than hotels.

Paul is knowledgeable about China as he and Julia have hosted a number of Chinese guests He tried to make us (essentially a pair of introvert individuals) feel more pleasant by talking about China. His sense of humor also made us smile and laugh out loud especially when he played with the glowing green toy on the shelf. He and Julia even prepared a book beside the bed for us to know more about this wonderful city that never fails to shine and fascinate.

Julia and Paul symbolized a lifestyle to me, a lifestyle that combines tranquility and sparkles, a lifestyle that i am striving to make me enjoy and make it endure.

About
We love living in York and make good use of its many cultural attractions. We are into music, politics and current affairs and I am a trustee of a local community space. I grew up by the sea and return as often as I can. We travel regularly and prefer the 'make it up as you go along' approach. If money was no object we would live in Venice. We are excited by the opportunities Airbnb offers for world travel!
