We are very proud to call our Solaris home Green. But what actually makes our home "green"?
Solaris was designed and oriented as a passive/active solar home. The front of the home faces south which allows the winter sun come inside to bathe the concrete floors on both levels (high thermal mass) which warms the home and stores temperature (heat or cooling).
Yet, due to the calculated overhangs the summer sun is blocked from entering the south windows so it doesn't add to the cooling needs of summer. In addition to the passive solar heating, Solaris has solar thermal collectors on the roof which heat a tank of 325 gallons of "solar thermal storage".
Through heat exchangers this energy is transferred to the radiant floor heating, domestic hot water or the hot tub as needed. If all the thermal storage is depleted, our backup is a high efficiency boiler.
In the summer months, we cool passively through opening windows overnight, or use evaporative cooling in the dry season. Lastly we use air conditioning when the dew point rises above 55 degrees F.
85% of our electricity use for the year is from the sun through our photovoltaic panels.
Our grey water is drained to water plants. Rainwater is caught to water our small vineyard and organic garden. The spa uses a 50/50 mix of rainwater and metered water. Our roof is a "cool roof" which reflects the summer's heat reducing the attic temperatures. We would be happy to share many more details of Solaris with you during your visit.
We invite you to enjoy yourself in our green, solar, sustainable home. Your Suite Solaris has all the amenities and comforts of a "traditional home", simply better. Our ideal location offers a kaleidoscope of exciting nearby activities and natural wonders. We welcome you to stay a night, a week or even longer in our delightful and cozy suite.
My girlfriend and I had a wonderful stay at Solaris - we arrived late on a rainy night, and Maria was kind enough to let us sit out late in the jacuzzi. We had a frat night sleep and a leisurely morning, and got a tour of their axing solar house before we left. Would recommend Solaris to anyone in the area!
Tim and Maria were wonderful hosts and have an AMAZING AirBNB space. We loved the privacy of their property; it's basically an apartment that's part of their gorgeous house with a full kitchen and bathroom, a huge walk-in closet and and a great bed with a fabulous view. We also enjoyed their outdoor grill in the evening for dinner, and their hot tub at night under the stars.
If you're roadtripping in the area, it's a fantastic place to spend a couple days. I wish we had been able to stay more than one night as there's lots to do in the area, but we'll be back!!
This is my 2nd time staying at Solaris and Tim and Maria are gracious hosts and have one of the coolest properties around.
The listing description was accurate and detailed the amenities such that we knew what to expect. The kitchen was clean with a fridge that was large enough to hold our supplies, and every cooking need was supplied. My husband enjoyed the large closet and I enjoyed the lovely details to the room, such as the window treatments that allowed for light, and great views but also provided privacy. The bathroom was clean and bright, with plenty of clean towels. The shower was large, comfortable and beautiful.
The environment accommodated our lifestyle. Simple, clean and lovely. The concrete floors were great for our allergy concerns.
Sunset hot-tubbing afforded terrific vista views of red and purple.
Tim and Maria are the best, they made our stay delightful.
Thanks Tim and Maria, we look forward to seeing you again when we are back in Arizona. Steven and Linda Allen
Solaris is a beautiful oasis. We only stayed one night so didn't get a chance to really enjoy all it had to offer but we will definitely return here when we're in the area. The house itself is something to visit and admire. Tim and Maria built the house and it is completely energy efficient. They even offered a tour of the house and shared the details of the design. The room was spacious and stocked with books, magazines, maps. The bathroom was large with a deep soaking tub and shower. This room too was stocked with fresh towels for the bath and the spa! Everything was immaculate! Above all Tim and Maria were wonderful gracious hosts and we're grateful they shared their lovely space with us!
Wow! This place is awesome! Tim was super nice to show us around and give us a tour of the house and answer all our questions. Our apartment was equipped with a full kitchen with a stove and oven which was perfect, and a spacious bedroom. Everything was beautifully designed and had great vibes. Oh and the hot tub! So wonderful to be able to sit in the hot tub and catch the sun going down across the desert.
Thank you Tim and Marie for letting us into your wonderful home and making us feel so welcome. Fantastic place to use as a home-base and do all your exploring from there...Montezuma's Well is literally just around the corner from Tim & Marie's. There are so many interesting things to see and do in the area that does not happen in or close to Sedona.
We had a great stay at Solaris. Tim and Maria were very kind and helpful and the space was lovely. We enjoyed seeing the rest of the house and Tim makes great coffee and scones. The suite was peaceful and relaxing and we would definitely stay again if we come back to the area. Thanks Tim and Maria...we enjoyed our conversations and your company.
Our stay at Solaris was fantastic! Not only did we receive great suggestions as to where to visit around the area, but Tim and Maria had a whole desk full of informational brochures. We were also lucky enough to try some of Tim's homemade scones, and some pineapple juice Maria whipped up! Tim also spent some time sharing details about their passive solar home, and how it operates so efficiently. We really enjoyed our stay!
The hot tub was really nice, especially since they do not use chlorine! I really enjoyed the stars and the view of the milky way from the hot tub! Tim and Maria's house was beautiful as well as the surrounding area.
We had a wonderful time at Tim and Maria's. Their home is right in the middle of the three places we wanted to visit during our two day vacation. The suite was absolutely wonderful with a great view of the valley with its gorgeous sunrise, stars, and painted skies. You have private access to the front door, your entry to the whole first floor, which is your suite. They were very accommodating with my son who had his own bed. They provided guidance for a hike, that ended with access to a creek, and restaurants. I am so glad we were hosted by Tim and Maria and will definitely be back in the near future.
