We are very proud to call our Solaris home Green. But what actually makes our home "green"?

Solaris was designed and oriented as a passive/active solar home. The front of the home faces south which allows the winter sun come inside to bathe the concrete floors on both levels (high thermal mass) which warms the home and stores temperature (heat or cooling).

Yet, due to the calculated overhangs the summer sun is blocked from entering the south windows so it doesn't add to the cooling needs of summer. In addition to the passive solar heating, Solaris has solar thermal collectors on the roof which heat a tank of 325 gallons of "solar thermal storage".

Through heat exchangers this energy is transferred to the radiant floor heating, domestic hot water or the hot tub as needed. If all the thermal storage is depleted, our backup is a high efficiency boiler.

In the summer months, we cool passively through opening windows overnight, or use evaporative cooling in the dry season. Lastly we use air conditioning when the dew point rises above 55 degrees F.
85% of our electricity use for the year is from the sun through our photovoltaic panels.

Our grey water is drained to water plants. Rainwater is caught to water our small vineyard and organic garden. The spa uses a 50/50 mix of rainwater and metered water. Our roof is a "cool roof" which reflects the summer's heat reducing the attic temperatures. We would be happy to share many more details of Solaris with you during your visit.

We invite you to enjoy yourself in our green, solar, sustainable home. Your Suite Solaris has all the amenities and comforts of a "traditional home", simply better. Our ideal location offers a kaleidoscope of exciting nearby activities and natural wonders. We welcome you to stay a night, a week or even longer in our delightful and cozy suite.

  • Maria and Tim are absolutely wonderful hosts! They make you feel completely comfortable and safe staying at their home! We especially loved learning about how much planning and effort went into making their incredible home! Maria even let me make a latte in the morning and baked us some delicious muffins. Their home is located in a perfect spot right outside of Sedona, not too far but far enough to feel immersed in the town, you feel like you live there!

  • Tim and Maria were amazing! The place is really beautiful and private. They were both the friendliest people and made traveling alone feel less lonely. They gave me great advice not only for my Sedona hikes but for the Grand Canyon as well. I highly recommend staying here. The fact that it's completely solar powered is also a treat!

  • I will not lie. I was really nervous about my first airbnb experience. However, Maria completely put my worries to ease with her welcoming attitude! She is extremely kind, generous, informative and will make you feel right at home. This listing is basically your own apartment that is attached to their home. It comes with a kitchen, a bathroom and a bedroom. It is EXTREMELY well maintained, clean and cozy. We only spent one night here, but wish we could have stayed longer.

Thank you for such a lovely experience! If I am ever back in the Sedona area, I don't want to stay anywhere else!

  • Maria was an excellent hostess at a beautiful apartment just outside of Sedona. My girlfriend and I were driving to Phoenix from the Grand Canyon but wanted to enjoy a night in Sedona to take in the sunset over the red rocks. Solaris provided the perfect place to rest and enjoy the beauty of the area. I highly recommend Solaris to anyone considering a stay in the area - whether for one night or one week. You'll feel at home!

  • This was our first experience using Airbnb and I'm going to have to say that it was a completely fantastic experience for my wife and I. This get-away was exactly what my wife and I needed. A little off the beaten path but well within driving distance to many fantastic sights. Tim and Maria's accommodations were very nice, very clean, and comfortable (exactly as stated in their description). They went out of their way to welcome us and make sure we were comfortable. We enjoyed our time chatting with Tim and Maria, learning about the house, and a delicious coffee. Tim was very helpful with info places to see and go. We had a great walk outside Sedona at Crescent Moon, a beautiful spot along Oak Creek. Montezuma Well is gorgeous and it's just down the road. Our favorite day trip was to the Grand Canyon and all its majesty! We stayed 7 nights here and thoroughly enjoyed everyday.

  • Tim and Maria are the perfect hosts! Their home is GORGEous, and gracious is inadequate to describe Maria and Tim.

The accommodations are totally private and include a full kitchen. It's basically an apartment on the first floor of their home with their apartment upstairs.

If you're interested in solar homes, you need to stay here, and talk with Tim. But you'll want to book an extra night because Tim knows everything about the design and construction of the home.

Lovely people and a lovely home. A bit farther from Sedona than we had expected, but just a mile from Montezuma's Well which you don't want to miss!

It's about 15 minutes to the closest grocery, so if you want to cook, shop on the way. The Vintage Grille just down the road is a Trip Advisor Award of Excellence winner with good food and a super friendly staff if you're not in the mood for cooking.

  • Tim and Maria’s place is fantastic. It’s comfortable, spacious, very clean, quiet, with easy access and nice views. It is everything the listings offers and then some!
Located about 20-30 min south of Sedona, it is in close proximity to Montezuma Well Natural Park which is worth visiting.
Our hosts were very accommodating, friendly and helpful. Tim graciously spent time with me suggesting a trip route based on places we wanted to see that was very handy.
My Wife and I really enjoyed our stay and plan to visit again in the future. We arrived as guests and left as friends!

  • It will be hard to top my very first airbnb experience, having been "broken in" at Solaris by the lovely Tim and Maria! The accommodations were fabulous, and our hosts went above and beyond to make us feel comfortable, offered excellent local area advice, gave us a fascinating tour of their beautiful custom home, and whipped up a morning Cubano latte that we will never forget! We really appreciated their great humor and enthusiasm for the Verde Valley, and wished we could have stayed much longer. It was quite evident that these folks live a good life and love to share that energy with travelers. Many thanks!
