Description

The Space

This sunny apartment is 136 sq.m. (1335 sq.ft). The living space consists of a living room, dining room, main bedroom (with a brand new king size bed), guest room with a very comfortable double bed, bathroom/shower, eat-in kitchen. There is available closet space in both bedrooms.

It is a corner 4th floor apartment with a beautiful, open view of treetops and the city (you can actually see late night fireworks from Tivoli from the living room windows), a short block from Sortedam Lake and its cafés, just steps from Lille Triangel (Little Triangle) and some of Copenhagen’s best cafés and restaurants, a few blocks from Nordre Frihavnsgade, one of the best shopping streets in the city. Østerbrogade (especially past Triangel) is also a great fashion street. The apartment is nested between great parks: Fælled park, where atomic physicist Niels Bohr went on his famous walk with his former German student, Heisenberg in 1941, possibly discussing issues concerning the creation of the atom bomb), unique playgrounds (in Fælled Park), the Citadel (Kastellet) on the other side of Østerport Station, where you can walk on the ramparts overlooking Copenhagen's Langelinie and the Little Mermaid; Østre Anlæg in which you'll find The National Gallery of Art and The Hirschsprung Collection. The newly renovated Botanical Gardens are also just down the block.

It's an easy walk through the parks to the center of Copenhagen.

A great starting point for joggers!

The building is from the 1890’s which means NO elevator, but the wide, elegant stairway is an 'easy' walk-up. This apartment is not good for anyone with a physical disability.

Facilities: Flat-screen TV, WIFI, fully equipped kitchen with dishwasher, combined washer/dryer in bathroom, linens and towels, 2 bicycles (his and hers) in the yard, and a baby folding bed (must be requested ahead of time).

There is a courtyard with benches and tables for your use if you wish.

By the way, there is a ringbinder in the apartment with lots of tourist information, city maps and a print out of the list of good local restaurants mentioned below.

Guest Access

Apart from one room which is off limits and which we use for storage space, guests are welcome to use the whole apartment. There is also a courtyard with tables and chairs available for use.

Interaction with Guests

Either Leif or I or both will be there to greet you when you arrive and show you around. We can be reached by cell phone or email, but otherwise, you will be on your own.

The Neighborhood

The immediate neighborhood is well-endowed with good eating places. Here are a selection on or near Øster Farimagsgade:

Getting Around

At Lille Triangel, there are buses in all directions: 1A, 14, 37 so it's real easy to get around. There is also Østerport Station with s-trains (city trains) and regional trains, just 700 meters away. And at Nørreport Station, you can get the metro.

Here is how to get here from the AIRPORT:
1.When you walk through customs into the arrival area, just keep on walking straight ahead about 50 meters until you reach the train platforms, which will be on your right.
[Do not take the metro, which is on your left!]
2. Find the platform for trains going to Helsingør (Elsinore). Make sure the train goes at least as far as Østerport. Some of them stop at the Central Station (Hovedbanegård). Take the train to Østerport (a 20-minute ride).
3. At Østerport, go out of the station and cross the street (there is a crosswalk with a traffic light), and with your back to the station, turn right and walk (away from town) 700 meters to Lille Triangel, the intersection with Øster Farimagsgade. Turn left on ØF and walk to the first corner (Collinsgade) and you are there. Bingo!
4. You can also take the 1A bus one stop from Østerport Station to Lille Triangel if you have heavy things to carry. The 1A bus runs every 5-8 minutes.

Other Things to Note

Biking is definitely the best way to get around Copenhagen. There are bicycle helmets in the hallway. It is not obligatory, but recommendable, especially cycling in unknown territory.

I was born in New York City, but came to Denmark in the early 1970's during a break in my graduate studies in anthropology. I never went back, though I often go back to visit. After a career change I became an English teacher at a Danish secondary school from which I retired last year. My husband Leif was also an English teacher and our apartment is full of English-language novels and other books. Though we're no longer teaching, we still do a lot of freelance work, among other things, translating from Danish and Norwegian into English.

We love to cook!

We love theater, film and art, and our apartment is full of Leif's art work.

We spend a lot of time with our grandchildren, but we also like to travel in Europe and the US. We've been to the Middle East and South Africa, but there's a lot waiting for us out there.

It's important for us that our airbnb guests feel comfortable in our home. I am actually slightly addicted to 'pleasing' my guests. Hope you give us a try.
