About this listing

Our place is close to family-friendly activities. Our place is good for couples, solo adventurers, and big groups.

The space

About the property
1. Our Guesthouse is nestled at the base of Udaipur’s renowned City Palace in the heart of the Old City.
2. The street in which the 250 year old heritage house or haveli is located, Kavi Rao Mohan Singh, is named after an ancestor of the family and is a comfortable sanctuary just off Bhattiyani Chouhtta, a fascinating market street lined with handicrafts stalls.
3. We invite you to nest and rest in one of our two spacious bedrooms (11x17ft). You can curl up reading in cushioned bay-windows or sprawl out for a siesta on firm double beds with freshly laundered linen.
4. Each room is decorated with eclectic handicrafts, antiques and textiles.
5. Our guesthouse is newly renovated, so our bathroom facilities are clean and reliable.
6. Each room has an ensuite bathroom with western toilet and a running hot shower available 24 hours a day.
7. We will happily provide clean towels and new bed linen at your request.
7. In addition to our simple but charming heritage rooms, it has two spacious terraces from which panoramic views of the City Palace and verdant Aravali Hills can be taken in.
8. It is a perfect place to experience the nightly sound and light show which sets the Palace ablaze, watch the buzzing rooftop life of the Old City, or rest-up with a book, drink or meal happily provided by your hosts (upon request). Of course, it's courtyard is also a lovely shady place to pass time.
9. The traditional layout of our home (several rooms arranged around open courtyards) is perfect for the independently minded traveller who also wants to experience the life and hospitality of a local family. You may come and go from our rooms as you please as they each have a private entrance from the little garden courtyard.
10. As our family are descendants of a renowned poet who served in the royal court of Mewar and shared a close relationship with the then King (Maharana), our home was gifted to our ancestor by the royal family.

Attractions and distance
It is thus located very centrally, just 5 minutes walk to the palace and other heritage highlights of Udaipur, such as:

1. Jagdish Temple- Built from marble in C17th and dedicated to Jagdish’ or Vishnu (Lord and protector of the universe), this is Udaipur’s most notable and beautiful Hindu temple.

2. Gangaur Ghat- A complex of Shiva temples perched on the bank of Pichola Lake where the annual Gangaur festival unique to Rajasthan is commemorated. Also a wonderful spot to observe the rituals of daily life, the gorgeous Lake Palace and Jag Mandir island.

3. Ayurvedic Hospital- Provides free consultations, daily yoga classes and mud therapy.

4. Rose Garden- The favoured place for locals to picnic and exercise.

We so enjoyed our stay at the Little Garden Guest House! Akshay is a very charming, funny and welcoming host! The rooms are ornamental and beautiful, a number of the objects are made by his father and family himself. We had hot showers each day and the breakfast offered by Akshay's mother was lovely! Thank you for the lovely stay!

The listing was accurate. The location is in the heart of the city, a few min walk from the city palace. Akshay and his parents made the stay extremely comfortable for us and our 3yr old daughter. His mother even prepared khichdi for my daughter on request. The tea provided was amazing. Akshay even gave us an upgraded room. The rooms were spacious, well ventilated, thoughtfully decorated. The bathroom was spotless and clean. The neighbours and kids made Diwali extra special by involving my daughter in their crackers party. We had a lovely time.

Me and my fiancé stayed for just one day with akshay at his cute lil abode as we wished to try other properties at udaipur too during our visit. But even one day has been great living with akshay and his family. This is in true sense an air bnb where in the host and his family made us feel like home. With their family history in udaipur going to generations back, akshay and his father had innumerable interesting stories and histories to share of the place. Had a great time, and yes very tastefully made and maintained. There would be no problem faced staying here whatsoever. (:

This is a beautifully made nest in Udaipur. Rooms are exactly the way they appear in pics. Guests also have access to two common areas plus a wide terrace (feels lovely on full moon nights). Akshay and his family treat you like one of their own. I went with my wife and 3 year old. Loved the experience.

Akshay and his family were wonderful hosts. Their humble abode was clean, peaceful, and quiet even though it was in the city's center (in other words, it is very conveniently located)! As a young woman traveling alone I felt very safe at their guesthouse and I would recommend to anyone whether traveling alone, as a couple, or as a family to stay here.

Was very impressed with Akshay and the Little Garden Guest House. It is well located in the centre of Udaipur's old town but is a quiet and secluded oasis. The room was simple and tastefully decorated and furnished as were all the public areas in the guest house. Great views from the rooftop and fantastic masala tea. Akshay, his father and other staff are friendly and helpful. My only criticism is that over four nights would have liked my room to have been tidied at least once. Overall highly recommended.

The Little Garden guesthouse is the perfect introduction to the majestic city of Udaipur. Akshay is an incredibly warm host, filled with fantastic tips and advice on where to go and what to see. The rooms are beautifully restored, spacious and comfortable. It was good to be slightly away from the area around the footbridge that is almost totally dominated by standard guesthouses. But at the same time very close to the major sights, like the city palace and the lake. I'd highly recommend staying here and would definitely return.
