Margaret River rural retreat

House - Private room · Terry Drive, Margaret River, WA 6285, Australia

The Space

Hi welcome to Margaret River, the jewel of Western Australia. The region is deservedly famous for its wine, surf and relaxed lifestyle.

We have a gorgeous home surrounded by bush, 9 km from Margaret River township, close to vineyards/wineries, surf breaks, and a 18 hole golf club. Situated on the Leeuwin Naturaliste Ridge it is very secluded with stunning flora and fauna.

Friends and family have always enjoyed visiting with us, and so it seemed natural to invite the family of AirBnB travellers too!

The guest bedroom has its own ensuite. You wake up to birdsong and views over the landscaped gardens. A great way to recharge your batteries before heading out to see the sites.

Your own transport is essential but if you are feeling adventurous we have bikes to explore the very safe local cycle paths. The coast line with stunning beaches and a couple of cafes is approximately 3 kms away, while Margaret River town is a 10 minute drive and has plenty in the way of shops, cafes, galleries and restaurants.

You are most welcome to share the living areas, the kitchen and the laundry. Breakfast supplied, and please let me know in advance of any special dietary requirements.

I'm happy to assist in any way with your stay in the region.

  • Kath was a wonderful host, an intelligent, well traveled writer, who gave us (but especially my wife Margaret, also somewhat of a writer) a rich mine of conversational material. We unfortunately were able to stay for only one night. The location is idyllic and the accommodation was comfortable and spotlessly clean. As wonderful as Margaret River is all by itself, it was that much more appreciated for Kath's restaurant suggestions and local attractions recommendations, and of course, Bailey's welcoming attendance danced upon us.
Breakfast at the patio table on the day of our departure was delicious and languorous - the time passed so quickly. We would love to do this again sometime.

    Response from Kath:

Alain you are a lovely writer yourself. I will hunt you two down in Montreal as I must see you on the stage! Take care and all the best for 2014 x Kath

  • Beautiful house and garden, lovely room and Kath is a great hostess.
We had a great stay with her and her dog Bailey.

  • Had a wonderful, relaxing stay at this lovely hideaway near Margaret River township. Kath and her gorgeous dog, Bailey, gave us a warm welcome followed by a glass or two of wine in the garden before we headed into town for a great pub meal.
Breakfast the next day was as casual as we wanted it to be and checkout time was flexible.
It was just like visiting a dear friend and I expect we'll do just that again before too long!

  • If you are looking for a truly peaceful place then stay with Kath in the lovely house and garden near Margaret River! While it is very quiet there, the town is nearby as well as wineries and the beach.
Kath made us feel very much at home, even sharing fresh vegetables and fruit from her garden. What we cherished most of all were the lively discussions with our host on many different topics.
Thank you Kath - and hopefully we will find other places like yours!

  • We had a lovely stay with Kath. The home is beautiful with the bedroom opening onto a lovely courtyard and also appointed with a private ensuite bathroom. Kath was lovely enough to allow us full use of her lounge room and kitchen (and even some of the fresh herbs and veggies from her garden!) We very much enjoyed Kath and her dog Bailey's company over the length of our stay.

Kath was also kind enough to share avocados and oranges from her amazing garden. Definitely a five star bargain for accommodation in margaret river.

Hi, I have worked in communications, media and politics for the last couple of decades. I'm now taking a break from all that seriousness and writing a novel in a gorgeous bush retreat on the outskirts of Margaret River. When words fail me I love tending the gardens and orchard, walking with our big brown dog Bailey. My sister Frances and her husband Tony, have owned this property for a decade and now reluctantly live further north. They have enjoyed many visits from friends and family across the globe and would like you to also experience this unique place. Terry Drive is close enough to town (9km), cafes and vineyards, but feels like a piece of your own heaven when you are here. I have rarely seen the stars so clearly as I have here. Now that it's cooler I have a roaring fire most nights, but you can still sit outside with a rug and watch for comet showers or the more prosaic satellites. It's perfect with a glass of wine or your hands around a hot mug of coffee, tea or chocolate. Life here is simple; there is no loud music or reality TV. The tranquility of the setting is enough. Please come and visit.
