The Space

Authentic Ontario log cabin on 15 acres of planted red pine forest, four minute walk from Georgian Bay. Whether it's private walks, a game of tennis on a forested court, dinner or morning coffee with a variety of songbirds, this historic little piece of Georgian Bay is beautiful. The main cabin is complimented by two guest cabins which can be used in summer months. The guest cabins are closed between September and May. The property will accommodate families and gatherings of friends with ease. Located less than 2 hours north of Toronto, near Lafontaine and Christian Island, ski hills are located within 50 minutes.

Guest Access

A Norwegian cast iron wood stove will keep you warm and comfortable during your stay. All sheets, linens, cutlery, etc are provided. The cabin has been a family retreat and home for decades. It is rustic, but well appointed. A dishwasher is not available, but other amenities that you might expect are.

Bring raquets, as there is a private tennis court near the main cabin, although it is no Wimbeldon.

Interaction with Guests

The Owner vacates the property during your stay.

The Neighborhood

A number of idyllic public beaches, cross ski and cycling/hiking trails are close by.

Cedar Point and Christian Island are the ancestral lands of the Huron Wendat Nation. Ste. Marie Among the Hurons is close by in Midland and a must see.

Getting around

A convenience store is a 5 minute drive, and more is available in nearby Penetang and Midland.

Other Things to Note

Cell service is available on the property, but is not consistently reliable. Internet access is not available.

  • Peter's cabin was so beautiful, and we all had a wonderful time during our stay. You can go walking in the area, to Christian Island or to Awenda Park. The cabin itself is beautifully designed and thoughtfully equipped. If you visit during May/June time, make sure to bring a suitable insect repellent to ward off pesky mosquitoes and black flies.

  • Peter and his family's place is great and we had a wonderful experience there for a little fall weekend bday getaway.

The pictures are accurate, but the place still needs to be experienced to be appreciated fully I think as it has a nice lived in feel and interesting signs of interesting lives all over the place from the little antique items to the many art works on the wall (done by folks in the family it seemed) to the old encyclopedias on the bookshelves.

The area is of course great and though its not on the water, the property has a nice pine forest surrounding the houses that give it a nice feel and solitude...the beach is only a 5 minute walk away as well.

We enjoyed the old iron stove to keep us warm during the rainy days and everything else is well equipped to be self sufficient and cook.

Peter was a pleasure to deal with. Communication was easy and likewise with the check-in though we never did cross paths in person to meet.

All in all great experience and recommend the Cabins if you like what you see.

  • Beautiful destination. Rustic and refined. It made for the perfect getaway. This has a rustic appearance but has everything you could possibly need. A jewel in the woods. We look forward to another visit again soon.

  • Our stay at the "cabin in the pines" was exactly what the Dr. ordered...the setting is remote, quiet and peaceful, yet the area full of great amenities (beaches, trails, Penetang and Midland are only 20min away). The cabins and property are very well cared for...Thanks Peter.

The house is very well equipped and has everything you might need.
Nobody wanted to leave, would stay here again and again!

  • We had such a wonderful time at Peters cabin! It has everything we needed and more. Our kids loved staying in the bunkies, the weather was perfect just as Peter ordered and we loved the firepit at night. We would absolutely love to come again. Such a relaxing weekend! Thanks Peter!

  • Our group very much enjoyed our weekend here. The setting was extremely tranquil, on gorgeous well kept property. There is a fire pit (and plenty of wood provided) that made for some lovely star gazing and marshmallow roasting. The cabins were clean, comfortable and well-appointed with dishes, BBQ tools/gas, etc.

The concrete tennis court was very playable. I imagine it has seen some raging family doubles matches! Not mentioned was the attached 8' basketball hoop (which sadly at 5'9", I still couldn't dunk).

Several sandy public beaches are a short drive. My only warning (at least for the beach at concession 12) is once we were in the water, it is a little rocky. Swim shoes or flip flops are recommended.

Another small warning - if you absolutely need to stay connected to the outside world, cell phone service was spotty (in and out). However, our group found it very refreshing to put phones away and see each other's faces at dinner/around the fire!

Sit back on one of the lovely porches, soak up the majestic surroundings, and feel your stress dissolve!

  • Our cottage stay this past weekend was wonderful. The cottage was clean, spacious and every eclectically (email hidden) for a large group of people. I would recommend this place to anyone. Thank you Peter for hosting us!
