Voted MOST UNIQUE LISTING at 2014 Airbnb Open!!!
Spectacular views inside and outside and all around this amazing, round home.
Come visit the most beautiful place on earth!
Las Vistas, an architectural gem of a round house, with a central courtyard open to the sky above, provides spectacular views in every direction of mountains, lake, volcanoes, gardens, and the amazing Lake Atitlan sky. It has rightfully been called one of the most spectacular homes on the most beautiful lake in the world.
This waterfront, private home, on the north shore of the lake, is an easy five-minute walk from the Santa Cruz dock and a 15 minute boat ride from Panajachel. Although just a short walk from the restaurants and attractions of Santa Cruz, it is secluded and peaceful – an oasis in paradise.
This beautiful home is decorated throughout with Guatemalan textiles, sculptures, masks, paintings, photographs and ceramics. Orchids, tropical plants and fresh cut flowers bring the beauty of the gardens inside.
The entire house is NOT for rent. You will have access to all public areas in the house, but your host (and her 2 dogs) will be sharing it with you.
What is available is the guest room, with a separate entrance. It has a queen-sized bed, walk-in closet, and a secluded private porch with hammocks. A small loft, open to the guest room below and accessible by a ladder (see photo) is just large enough for a queen bed and a small night table. It is a cozy place for 2 extra adult guests or older children to sleep.
The master bathroom (shared with your host) includes a large soaking tub (with a view to the stars), indoor/outdoor solar-heated shower and a tropical garden and is accessible directly from the guest room.
The rest of the house and magnificent garden is open for your use and includes a fully equipped kitchen (for beverages or uncooked snacks) and dining room, living room with fireplace, wrap around porch, rooftop terrace, palm-roofed patio at the water’s edge, washer/dryer, half bath, 2 kayaks with life jackets, and a private dock for swimming or sunbathing. Free WiFi internet access is available throughout the house and porch.
Las Vistas is the perfect place from which to explore Santa Cruz and the other villages around Lake Atitlan, hike or climb volcanoes, go bird watching, learn to dive, take Spanish lessons, go to a yoga or weaving class, get a massage or take day trips to other Guatemalan attractions. Or just sit back and enjoy the views. Your host is happy to connect you with tourist activities as well as shuttles and private boats as needed.
Breakfast of fresh fruit, homemade yogurt, freshly baked bread, granola and cereal, coffee and tea included.
$10 per person per night additional for loft

Interaction with Guests
As much or as little as my guests would like. I love having long chats with my guests about what to see and do here (or about virtually any other topic) but also will leave you alone to enjoy the peace and tranquility for which you came to Lake Atitlan.
No smoking in house, but permitted on porch.
No guest cooking - except for coffee/tea.
Use of all public areas in the house and gardens (dining room, living room, porch, etc) is highly encouraged, but I ask that you help me keep these spaces tidy by keeping personal items in the guest room and picking up empty glasses, bottles, etc.
(Toiletries left in the bathroom are not a problem at all.)
Help us conserve electricity (and keep rates low for our neighbors) by turning off lights when not in use.
Children under 10 by special arrangement only.
Sorry, but because there are 2 dogs living here, guest pets are not permitted.
Have a great time!
Jeanne was an excellent host and made us feel extremely welcome. It was a true pleasure to be in her home and learn about life in the authentic and quaint village of Santa Cruz. She was very accommodating and informative. She will assist you with whatever you need from arranging dinner reservations to transportation to learning about the area and culture. Despite the amazing pictures, nothing can do her home justice until you see and experience it yourself. The breakfast was excellent with local bread, granola, coffee, fruit, etc. Nothing more we could have asked for during our stay. Hope to visit again in the future. Thank you Jeanne!
Jeanne was a terrific host and made us feel welcome from the start. She had wonderful stories about her life in Guatemala and she knows the area well. She made reservations, offered advice about the village and recommended various activities.
Communications were excellent and she was waiting at the appointed time. She made us feel welcome and at home during our entire stay.
The village is easily accessible by boat from Panajahel and her house is a short walk from the dock. The trail is a bit tricky as it traverses some duck boards besides the lake which might be an issue for people with mobility issues but we navigated it easily.
The house is "drop dead gorgeous" with plenty of privacy, stunning views of the lake, and lush gardens. It was a great place to "chill out" for a few days - with hammocks to lounge in, a porch overlooking the lake and, best of all, an outdoor shower with loads of hot water.
Maria was a great host and the place was beautiful. Great views of the volcanoes and a great view of Fuego erupting every night. Her communication was prompt and helpful. I can recommend 100%.
A Guatemala foi uma experiência maravilhosa , os dias que ficamos com vc em Atitlan foram perfeitos . O quarto , a casa , seu carinho e suas dicas fizeram toda a diferença . Wait for us , we are coming back ! Thank you só much ! Paula e Júlia
This was the most amazing airbnb experience we've had! Jeanne was a wonderful and gracious host who has created a lovely, tranquil oasis on the shore of Lake Atitilan. The photos really cannot do the home and garden justice. The garden has surprises around every corner and was one of the favorite parts of our stay. We also enjoyed the hammocks, the outdoor shower, the volcano views from the porch, and Jeanne's sweet dogs. Not to be missed is a bath looking out onto the gardens with hummingbirds buzzing by or stars overhead at night. Jeanne also was a tremendous help in providing recommendations of places to visit around the lake and in setting up shuttles and dinner reservations nearby. We highly recommend all the dining experiences that are just a short walk from the house - Saturday night barbecue and happy hour drinks at the Iguana and a fresh, delicious dinner at Isla Verde. If you have the chance to go up the mountain into the village of Santa Cruz to dine with the local family Jeanne is friends with, DO! Our time along Lake Atitlan was a trip favorite, and Las Vistas is certainly deserving of the Most Unique airbnb award it received!
Our stay at Jeanne's was just wonderful, without a doubt the highlight of our Central America tour: Jeanne was the most fantastic welcoming host, she made us feel completely at home and nothing was too much trouble. She has 2 wonderful dogs who are just a delight to be around. The house itself is quite magnificent and the view is astounding. We arrived late at night and woke up to the best sunrise we have ever seen! Lake Atitlan is the most beautiful place! Santa Cruz was the perfect resort for us as it is quiet and unspoilt. The must do's in Santa Cruz are Cecap centre and cafe, La Iguana for family style dinner and activities and ask Jeanne to book you in for dinner with Alisha, for a locals dining experience; not to be missed! Jeanne was incredibly knowledgeable about the area and helped us plan our ongoing trip. Some of our favourite memories are chatting to Jeanne and hearing her stories of the lake. Thank you so much for such a wonderful stay, we will definitely be back!
I am a young retired American living on the shore of gorgeous Lake Atitlan in Guatemala. I teach English as a volunteer and am conversational (not fluent) in Spanish. The skies of Lake Atitlan are the joy of my life. And I love sharing the magic of this beautiful place with guests and visitors!
