About this listing
Voted MOST UNIQUE AIRBNB LISTING in 2014!!
Described as the most beautiful home and garden on the Lake.
Spectacular views inside, outside and all around this amazing, art-filled round home.
Come visit the most beautiful place on earth!
Las Vistas, an architectural gem of a round house, with a central courtyard open to the sky above, provides spectacular views in every direction of mountains, lake, volcanoes, gardens, and the amazing Lake Atitlan sky. It has rightfully been called one of the most spectacular homes on the most beautiful lake in the world.
This waterfront, private home, on the north shore of the lake, is an easy five-minute walk from the Santa Cruz dock and a 15 minute boat ride from Panajachel. Although just a short walk from the restaurants and attractions of Santa Cruz, it is secluded and peaceful – an oasis in paradise.
This beautiful home is decorated throughout with Guatemalan textiles, sculptures, masks, paintings, photographs and ceramics. Orchids, tropical plants and fresh cut flowers bring the beauty of the gardens inside.
The entire house is NOT for rent. You will have access to all public areas in the house, but your host (and her dog) will be sharing it with you.
What is available is the guest room, with a separate entrance. It has a queen-sized bed, walk-in closet, and a secluded private porch with hammocks. A small loft, open to the guest room below and accessible by a ladder (see photo) is just large enough for a queen bed and a small night table. It is a cozy place for 2 extra adult guests or older children to sleep.
The master bathroom (shared with your host) includes a large soaking tub (with a view to the stars), indoor/outdoor solar-heated shower and a tropical garden and is accessible directly from the guest room.
The rest of the house and magnificent garden is open for your use and includes a fully equipped kitchen (for beverages or uncooked snacks) and dining room, living room with fireplace, wrap around porch, rooftop terrace, palm-roofed patio at the water’s edge, washer/dryer, half bath, 2 kayaks with life jackets, and a private dock for swimming or sunbathing. Free WiFi internet access is available throughout the house and porch.
Las Vistas is the perfect place from which to explore Santa Cruz and the other villages around Lake Atitlan, hike or climb volcanoes, go bird watching, learn to dive, take Spanish lessons, go to a yoga or weaving class, get a massage or take day trips to other Guatemalan attractions. Or just sit back and enjoy the views. Your host is happy to connect you with tourist activities as well as shuttles and private boats as needed.
Breakfast of fresh fruit, homemade yogurt, freshly baked bread, granola and cereal, coffee and tea included.
$15 per person per night additional for loft (maximum of 4 guests total)
Children under 10 by special arrangement only
Use of laundry facilities FREE with 3 night stay
---- Prices increase during holiday weeks of Christmas, New Years, Semana Santa and US Thanksgiving -----
Interaction with Guests
As much or as little as my guests would like. I love having long chats with my guests about what to see and do here (or about virtually any other topic) but also will leave you alone to enjoy the peace and tranquility for which you came to Lake Atitlan.
No smoking in house, but permitted on porch.
No guest cooking - except for coffee/tea.
Use of all public areas in the house and gardens (dining room, living room, porch, etc) is highly encouraged, but I ask that you help me keep these spaces tidy by keeping personal items in the guest room and picking up empty glasses, bottles, etc.
(Toiletries left in the bathroom are not a problem at all.)
Help us conserve electricity (and keep rates low for our neighbors) by turning off lights when not in use.
Children under 10 by special arrangement only.
Sorry, but because there is a dog living here, guest pets are not permitted.
Have a great time!
This is one of the most remarkable, amazing houses I have ever had the good fortune to stay in. It most certainly deserves the designation of most unique listing. The pictures really do not do it justice. It is a uniquely and beautifully designed and tastefully decorated home with local art and crafts. The garden is unbelievable - wide varieties of all kinds of succulents, flowering plants, shrubs, grasses and trees you can get lost in forever. Which of course attract the birds and the butterflies! Heavenly.
We had plenty of privacy but preferred to spend time with Jeanne in her warm kitchen or open porch with views of the lake and the volcano. The entire house is set up for serious hedonistic behavior: the rocking chairs, the hammocks, the gazebo, the open air shower. Life just slows down and becomes all about enjoyment and pleasure.
Jeanne was one of the most communicate hosts, sharing a lot of very useful information as we were planning the trip as well as once we got there.
It is a gift to the world that she is willing to share her home. I hope I get to stay here again!
This home is gorgeous! The gardens surrounding the house are stunning and the views from every angle are breathtaking. Her private dock out front makes the perfect place to swim. Jeanne was so kind to us to help with driving directions and dinner reservations. She also has a great breakfast ready for you in the morning. Darcy and Cleo the pups make you feel right at home. Jeanne has done a wonderful job creating a truly special place.
it was great for us to stay there even though my wife was sick.
my wife is now getting better. Thanks for your providing some medicines for my wife during my stay. and I miss you and Clio...
my wife really love your garden with flowers and plants. hope to see you again if I go to Lake Atitlan. thanks and have a great day!
Jeanne was an absolutely wonderful host, and her house and the surrounding property are stunning. My husband and I had a fabulous, though far too short stay. Jeanne helped us by arranging transfer from the airport, suggesting and booking dinners, and answering all of our questions. We loved wandering around Santa Cruz and exploring other towns on Lake Atitlan. We wish we could have stayed longer!
Jeanne was a great host. Her house and gardens were beautiful. In the mornings she had fresh fruit, yogurt, granola and toast. I loved sitting on her porch in the morning and watching the humming birds as I drank my coffee. The bed was very comfortable. I loved that she was just a short walk to the Iguana which was the hostel. The Iguana has great food and meet some interesting people there. You need to be able to carry your luggage from the dock to her house. I would definitely come back to stay but in a different month. I didn't have a clear view of the volcanoes on any day.
What an amazing stay we had with Jeanne in Santa Cruz! This part of the lake has always been my favorite but I wanted to do something a little more special to celebrate my dearest friend's first visit to the lake and week off from parenthood. Naturally, I turned to AirBnB where I found Las Vistas.
What an incredible place. I must have come home with 1GB of photos related to the garden alone! Not to mention all the pictures I have of the outside shower and tub which are AMAZING (the shower and tub, not the photos). We shared the comfy bed but the room has a spare bed in the loft if one needs a little more space from their travel companion.
We were prepared with bottle of wine which we bought in Pana and that made our evening cocktail hour on the porch divine. It was hard to choose between the cozy rocking chairs, hammocks or deck seating for happy hour-clearly, life was very hard. Did I mention the house is round and the core has a fantastic open air garden??
Jeanne's a hostess extraordinaire who makes every effort to ensure her guests see the magic of Guatemala. What a treat! We only regret we didn't have more time to stay.
Gorgeous location and home on the shores of Lake Atitlan. Jeanne is as welcoming and friendly as you can imagine and and offered us her beautiful home for our three day in Santa Cruz. Thank you Jeanne!!
