Interaction with Guests
I'm passionate about sharing my local knowledge, with plenty of tips and suggestions. Oaxaca is a very social town, with guests sometimes enjoying dinner or drinks together. Or feel free to enjoy your privacy.
I can also coordinate tours to local attractions and surrounding towns.
Our location is excellent, just one and a half blocks from Santo Domingo and five blocks from the Zocalo.
We are next door to a gymnasium and three blocks from a good market (Sanchez Pascuas). We are close to everything you need e.g. laundry, pharmacy and many great restaurants. But if you need anything around town please don't hesitate to ask.
Centro Oaxaca is very safe and beautiful to walk around. Taxis are also generally easy to come by. If you wish to visit attractions outside of town you have option to take a bus, taxi or visit via an organised tour.

I have stayed in Josés home for almost six weeks now. Initially I booked for one month, but I enjoy Oaxaca, the climate, the food, the markets and the friendly people here so much that I've ended up staying. I came here for my friends wedding and I did not speak a word spanish when I arrived. When I booked trough AirBnB it was important for me that the host speaks english. During my stay here I've been taking spanish lessons and been practising spanish with José, and his mother as well, which has been beneficial. José is a friendly guy who wants to make your stay comfortable and memorable. His home is in general tidy and clean, an the location is very good. The house has a roof terrace which is very nice. The downside is the noise from the traffic and from people leaving bars at night in the week-ends, but that is not something José can do anything about. If you are looking for a place to stay close to the center of Oaxaca I can recommend Josés home.
Jose is a super friendly guy and very welcoming. Also very willing to accomodate my poor Spanish skills as I practiced, which I appreciated. The house and room are nice, the bed is comfortable, the roof is really great, and the location is excellent- probably the best area to be in Oaxaca in my experience. My only complaint is that the cleaning disk thing in the toilet bowl has a pretty strong chemical smell that can fill the room if the windows are closed, but no big deal. I would definitely recommend staying here to anyone considering a visit to Oaxaca. Thanks!
Our 5-day (email hidden) gets an A+ or 5-star rating! I've stayed in a number of different parts of Oaxaxa and, by far, the location of this house is excellent - it's in the heart of the Centro without being right on the Zocalo. Accomodations are clean and comfortable. I had Room 1 which is the best one to choose if available, but I would have been happy in any of his other rooms as well. Loved the roof-top terrace! What a great place for morning coffee (provided) or a beer in the evening. One evening, we had the pleasure of sharing a mezcal with José. The terrace is also a great spot for meeting and chatting with his other house guests. Kitchen facilities are available for those who want to cook or just use the refrigerator to keeps items cold. José has a lovely home and we were made to feel very welcomed there. By far, aside from a great location and very nice facilities, the best thing about this Airbnb is José himself. For anyone who doesn't speak Spanish, his English is excellent. For those wanting to practice their Spanish, José is the most willing teacher. It is clear from the moment we met José that he likes what he does and he enjoys having guests in his home. You really do feel at home. On my next trip to Oaxaca, I will be sure to book early enough to get a (email hidden).
Jose met us upon our arrival and was very helpful in getting us settled. The accommodations were reflected accurately in the posting. Accommodations are comfortable and clean. Jose was available with information and assistance regularly.
We especially enjoyed the upstairs patio especially on hot days. My husband actually watched the hockey game on our iPad up there one evening! The location is fabulous as it so close to everything. Mere steps to Santo Domingo church, museum and botanical garden, also great restaurants and shops.
Oaxaca is the town to visit and Jose has the place in the historic center to stay. He is a very nice person and will answer all your questions and will make sure you enjoy your time in Oaxaca.
I loved my cuarto ( room ) with that comfortable bed and own bathroom, all nice and clean.
On top of the building there is a generous terrace with a wonderful view and aswell the kitchen is up there and you’ll meet other guests.
It’s my first stop in Mexico and I’m happy to meet so many friendly people. For sure I’ll come back to stay at Jose’s place. Just, you have to understand that you are in the center of an old town with narrow streets and it’s not always quiet. My stay fell into Semana Santa and they made a lot of noise. If you fly in, you can take a colectivo minibus for 70 peso/person they drop you infront of the entrance which is to the left of the gym. All the best for Jose . . . AXEL
We (email hidden) for the second time, and we loved it again. This room is on the second floor on the side of the street, rather than the side of the gym. We preferred this room. All of the windows open, and there are shutters like cupboard doors. When the shutters are closed, there is no light or sound from the street. One would sleep very, very well. José and his staff member Blanca are very kind and attentive. Since José already knew us, we had the opportunity to spend more time with him, but my husband and I also had the time to go out and do things on our own whenever we wished. My husband is a baker, and we had two pizza parties at the house. We had a lot of fun with the other guests and José's friends and family. We had a great two weeks!
Jose is a wonderful host. I can’t thank him enough for all the things he has done to make my visit to the beautiful state of Oaxaca worthwhile. Jose is very hospitable and accommodating. He picked me up at the airport on the day of my arrival. He walked me around the plaza and had coffee in his favorite coffee shop and worked on my itinerary. On my first night we had a mezcal and introduced me to the other guests. I felt so welcomed and at home in the casa. During my stay, he also took the time to walk me around and do shopping in few of the many markets of Oaxaca which I enjoyed so much.
Casa JM is centrally located in Oaxaca City. It is close to many courtyard cafés, art galleries, restaurants and convenience store, and also to many of the city’s known tourist spots.
I stayed in the private room 3 on the 3rd floor. I love the seclusion and most of all the panoramic view of the Sto. Domingo Church in the rooftop. There is a cozy sitting in the rooftop. The shared kitchen is conveniently next to my room and it is scrupulously clean. The room has a new A/C and not used for long because of the cool breeze at night sweeps me away to sleep.
I highly recommend to any traveler who plans to visit Oaxaca to stay in Casa JM. It is very affordable, near to places that I bet will interest you and being manned by very friendly, knowledgeable and receptive host.
