Cong, nestling on the shores of Lough Corrib offers a wealth of history and unspoilt natural beauty that once seen is never forgotten.
Spectacularly situated on the shores of Lough Corrib, Cong is one of the most beautiful and historic villages in Ireland. It owes its special character to its location on an island in the middle of the River Cong. It owes its name to the isthmus or 'narrows' from the Irish word cunga, which separates Lough Mask and Lough Corrib, two of the finest wild trout fisheries in Europe.
The rising of waters at Cong and the myriad of underground streams and Caverns beneath the area has captivated people for millennia. Congs strategic location has drawn hunter-gatherers, farmers, soldiers, kings, monks and adventurers for almost 7000 years.
There are many Archaeological sites & Caves to be discovered around Cong and the surrounding area that we would be happy to show you.

Really enjoyed our stay, such a beautiful house and surroundings, hoping to go back again!
Woodhill House was magical! It was everything we expected and more. The setting and gardens are picture perfect, and home so cozy and well appointed.
I would highly recommend staying in this house situated near the end of a narrow boreen close to Lough Corrib. It is quite well laid out and surrounded by a lovely garden. We were a group of 4 couples, 2 children and 2 babies and there was ample space for everyone. The kitchen and dining area was spacious enough for our group and it was good to have two sitting rooms at ground floor. The beds are comfortable and equipped with pristine bed linen. We didn't get warm enough weather to eat our evening meal outdoors but we did avail of the barbecue. The hosts also provided a cot and a high chair, as well as a changing table.
The location is a good springboard to Connemara and other great places to visit in Galway and Mayo. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this house and would definitely recommend it to others.

Thanks to Jonathan and Siobahn! Me and my family had a really great stay in the »Woodhill House« and recommend to go there! The house is very charming, with a lot of space, a very nice sunny terrace, a lovely garden and a chimney room. It's a perfect place to discover the nice village Cong and Ashford Castle and the beautiful landscape of Connemara.
