What a beautiful and convenient location! This house is in a secluded spot right in the jungle. We got to see birds and heard the monkeys from the house. It was a short jaunt to several great beaches – we went swimming and snorkeling at Punta Uva and saw a few sloths in the wild! We were within walking distance of some fabulous restaurants (shout out to Pura Gura and Selvin’s) as well as a convenience store for supplies and the Jaguar Rescue Center which was an awesome tour. Puerto Viejo with its restaurants and grocery stores was a 5-10 minute drive. Our teens didn’t want to be in the second bedroom (downstairs with its own entrance and not connected to where we were), but we moved the mattress upstairs in a corner of the living area and it worked great! The downstairs bath was perfect for showering off before coming into the house after a day at the beach. The groundskeeper was nice and helpful; he doesn’t speak English, but my husband speaks Spanish so that wasn’t a problem, plus Dave, the home’s owner, had good suggestions for things to do. We had a great time and would definitely go back!

Great location, and the house is surrounded by lush tropical plants. The area has plenty to do and see, and the beaches are great with lots of choices to go hang out at. The Mermaid house is very easy to find with the directions provided, and the check in was very easy for us even with the language barrier. The house itself could be cleaned up a bit more than what we had experienced, but I am sure jungle life just finds its way in. Waking up and sitting on one of the porches watching the birds and listening to the wildlife truly makes the stay worth while.

We had such high hopes for this place. Definitely a little noisy on the main drag and the neighbors music and TV can be heard. The biggest overall issue is the place is getting really worn down and was very dirty when we arrived, cobwebs, dust, dead bugs right in the entry way floor. We complained and David said something about a storm causing a disruption but never offered to have someone come and clean. When we went to bed the first night we found a bat in our room. We emailed David and got no response. It wouldn't take much to make this place great. It is the rain forest in Costa Rica so we can understand its not a 5 star Resort in the states but it just isn't what we had hoped. If you don't mind the dust and cobwebs and the occassional bat guest it really is a nice little house in a decent location Just know what to expect.

Unfortunately Perter and the caretaker Gilbert had a communication problem and as I was traveling on business in the US I could not mediate. As to hearing neighbors music there are no neighbors. Just the main house and the caretakers house in front of the compound. DT

Very typical of the Caribbean coast in Costa Rica. Could use some general maintence and upkeep. It should be noted that the master and main space are upstairs and has their own entry from the outside. The second bedroom and bath are downstairs and each has an entry from the outside. The two living spaces are a bit divided which could be great for couples traveling together but looking for some seclusion. Families with kids might not find it suitable to their needs.

Beautifull airy californian house with graden full of flowers, animals everywhere, nice terrace with candles ideal for relax. Romantic place, 10 minutes walk from paradise long beach, where you can find your own intimate place, one of the top places on carribean coast. Housekeeper Gilberto has 2 dogs, they are curious and friendly, you should love dogs, because everyone in CostaRica has, they are everywhere :) The big advantage is sleeping on the floor, does not belong there so many insects and small animals. Sometimes kitchen appliances did not work 100%, but you are in Carribean, so Pura vida!

Amazing views from this house. Comfy beds and great kitchen. We only stay for 2 nights, would love to go back and stay a longer while. Good hosts the house is clean and safe. Close to the beach and the supermarket. Loved it
