The Space

Located on a beautiful, quiet street, this 450 square-foot lower unit consists of one bedroom, bathroom with tiled shower, kitchen, and main room. A sunny garden and deck with comfy Adirondack chairs look out over the trees and toward the ridge that separates Mill Valley from the Pacific. It's the perfect place to relax in the sunshine with a good book. In this prime Mill Valley spot, guests can head up the street for easy access to hiking and biking trails on Mount Tamalpais or walk down the street to find the Dipsea steps, the public library, Old Mill Park, Mill Valley Beerworks, coffee shops, clothing stores, a bookstore, a movie theater, two venues with live performances - the Throckmorton Theater and Sweetwater - and the bustling downtown plaza. Stay in Mill Valley and explore on foot or bike, access public transportation from the downtown plaza, or use as a base to explore Marin, San Francisco, Berkeley, Sonoma, and Napa.

  • Karen's Mill Valley Retreat is perfect for a person who wants to be just close enough to downtown Mill Valley without all the hubbub. Her house is very comfortable, well-furnished, and nice to hang out with a book and a glass of wine. It's also very close to the Dipsea steps for anyone who wants to run the trail. Karen herself is respectful and warm. I've stayed here before, and I would stay here again.

  • This was in a lovely spot of the world. Mill Valley is as sweet a town as you could hope to find and this property was beautifully landscaped and tucked into the hillside. It felt like living in a treehouse. We especially enjoyed the deck that looks out over the hilltop and the patio where we could take meals outside. The home is near many hiking trails and within easy walking distance to the delightful downtown area and incredible city park. This place has no TV or microwave, but we didn't miss either of those things.

  • I stayed at Karen's house for a wedding in Mill Valley. I was very happy with the home itself and the location (a quick walk to pretty much everything in downtown Mill Valley)! I highly recommend it over the local hotels (which are twice the price!).

  • Our stay in Mill Valley was perfect. The Mill Valley Retreat was clean, comfortable and stylish. It was very close to town yet nestled in lush gardens and trees. We sat out on the patio for lunch and caught some rays while we ate. It was also super easy to arrange and Karen was very flexible. We even played the Trivial Pursuit she had available! I highly recommend this apartment.

  • Karen's place was really nice! Location is good for walking downtown, to the library, or park. It's a tree house style retreat.

  • Had a very quick stay here and as the weather was wet, did not really get to enjoy the pretty surrounds. Accommodation was clean but basic and a shortish walk to the village.

  • We really enjoyed our month long stay here. The apartment feels very secluded and peaceful but it's also walking distance from downtown Mill Valley. We are from the bay area so commuted to downtown via a commuter bus which was cheap and relatively fast (40 min or so). Parking is just on the street which worked out fine. It's pretty well stocked with the basics too, towels, kitchen equipment, books. Loved staying in Mill Valley and this apartment was perfect for our needs. You can hear Karen upstairs since this is a basement unit off the main house but she is pretty quiet and it never disturbed us.

  • Great place to stay! Very comfortable and sweet 1Bd/1Ba unit within walking distance of downtown Mill Valley and great hiking spots. The bed was comfortable, the place was very clean, books and music available and a sweet little patio area for your morning tea. Great job Karen!

  • This is the most restful and adorable place to stay. I appreciated just looking out the window into the trees and being able to walk everywhere I wanted to go in Mill Valley. Karen provides a clean and comfortable oasis of calm. I have never seen such a well-stocked airbnb, everything you could possibly need is provided. The bed is very comfortable and the tiny kitchen with the big window was perfect. Thanks Karen.

I'm a mom, teacher, gardener, and yogi. I work hard a my people-intensive job, which is why I seek balance in quieter pursuits like digging in the garden or reading. I'm a native Northern Californian. If I can't recommend a specific restaurant, hiking trail, or adventure in Marin or the greater Bay Area, I'll know someone who can.
